I practically worship ALW, and I love much of the Starlight score, but it really is just Cats on roller skates. Thanks for the great video. I’d never seen most of this!
@MondoMiami-In what way as some of the base of story is same and some of it is different storywise! I must say if we never had ALW, Cameron Macintosh, Tim Rice, Trevor Nunn, theatre wouldn't be as exciting IMO One of my other fav hit musicals from the 80's was/still is Chess, saw the revival in London back in Spring of 2018 London Coliseum with Michael Ball etc though was annoyed when they cut one of my fav songs out of it-The Arbiter along with a couple of other story changes! First saw it as a small kid in the 80's with Elaine Paige, Murray Head, etc then saw it again over the years on UK Tour and other tours in Europe!
Loved this video, just booked tickets to see it in March-used the theatre vouchers me and my gf had for ages! Starlight Express is the musical I have seen the most times. I have seen it 26 times in total- first as a little kid when I was 5 in Summer of 1986 and begged my mum/dad to take when seeing the adverts for it on TV, posters in the high street, buses/train stations, reading reviews for it on Teletext/Magazines etc Saw it 11 times in London, once on Broadway/once in Vegas, 6 times in Germany where it still play as you prob know. Once on tour in Australia + once in Japan + 4 times on UK Tour, and once in Norway! Yea the Bill Kenwright Tours were ok with half set size + 3D glasses, but this is how it should be done esp UK Tour when they did it in Arenas/Stadiums like: Milton Keynes Bowl which I saw in 2004! Shame it isn't as big as the one in London used to be or the one that still plays in Germany. Whereabouts in UK you from-I'm in Kent 😎 When it was announced with Andrew and Arlene etc. They said it would be like the German production yet when I then heard/read a few months before it opened in June of last year said the iconic rotating bridge wouldn't be there and couple of songs being replaced etc 🤷🏻♂ Looking forward to it though!
Love this video. The algorithm brought me here, as I've been reliving childhood memories of growing up seeing the Australian tour and listening to the soundtrack. This synopsis, paired with archive imagery, is great!
I appreciate this video so much. Not a single rude joke or mocking comment about the show, no false information about the show or its characters, just actual facts and positivity about it! 👏🏽 ❤ Even a video about Starlight Express as a whole that I watched months ago, which is what got me interested in the show... well, I'm grateful it introduced me to it, but now as a super fan, I wouldn't watch it again. 😒
as someone growing up in the north west of germany where the theatre is located it's usual for many families to visit starlight regularly, such as fir mine. i remember the first shows ive been to and it's such a big part of my childhood. i only found out tht starlight didn't only exist in germany a few years back and ive only recently looked into it - all the different minor storyline changes, different characters and songs are fascinating. thank you for this video
I love this show so much! Its so cool and creative! I loved this short and informative documentary about this play! I wish more people will know about it!
This is really fascinating, thanks so much! I'm astounded that only 4 shows featured the full complete original cast. Was it seriously all due to injuries, or did someone leave early before the 6 month contracts were up? I'd love to hear more about that. (Their insurance costs must have been phenomenal!)
Still my favourite show and I ended up marrying someone who worked there in the 1980’s. Shame that the German version in Bochum has been tweaked and they have got rid of Poppa and some of the key characters. They call it progress but we all know it is a huge mistake.

You deserve a lot more subscribers!
Fantastic. Well done
i love starlight! thanks for this!!!
The only reason for no more State side productions is the fact USA and the Insurance Companies won’t cover the high risks and such.
Lawyers ruin everything.
I must have seen this, at about the age of 10 or 11 in Bristol, UK...I think? Just an insane idea...but it works.
All the injuries explain why the stunts aspect of the show is almost non existant in the new version.
Where did you get the closing night footage? I was there

POPPA WAS A HUGE IMPORTANT ELEMENT OF THE SHOW ...... YES, A HUGE MISTAKE TO REMOVE HIM.
It was ALW choice to change it
@@Van_Tessa maybe but it was still a mistake. There are other ways to overhaul or modernise.
They’re making even more changes for the new London production. It’s so sad to see the show hacked to pieces like that 😞
@@Simulacra719 I’ve seen. Greaseball is a woman in the new production. Bring back the original show and characters.
