- Awesome Thomas And Friends Thomas MINIS raceway playset that's lots of fun to play with. This train toy is not your average Thomas Sodor adventure. This tall motorized playset has Cranky looking over three death defying Thomas MINIS rollercoaster stunt rides. This Thomas toy has good eye candy, 2 custom Thomas MINIS Flaming No1 Thomas The Tank & Jumping Tiger James and a nice looking Cranky who can have two naughty Thomas MINIS hanging from his hook. In this toy review I put this Thomas playset through it's paces to see where accidents happen. And sure enough the Thomas MINIS love to crash, jam and generally have fun. This toy is either one you can sit back and watch, or stack up to really elevate the play time fun. There are a few minor problems with this playset but thats all part of the fun when playing. I think this is the Thomas MINIS playset we all wanted, mind you maybe one based on Sodor Island would be what we really want. Thomas playsets seem to constantly be like rollercoaster rides these days. If you don't like this style of play, this playset is not for you.

Thomas & Friends minis introduce motorized play for even more fun and excitement! It all starts when you send the included Thomas and James minis up the steep vertical lift. The minis climb up automatically as the motorized playset lifts them up for an action-packed, multi-track adventure! When the minis reach the top of the set, turn the switch to choose your track. The first track is the “water track” - sending your minis down the “waterfall” and right into a 360 degree loop! Next up is a free-fall drop track headed toward a broken piece of track. Swivel Cranky the Crane to swoop in and rescue your mini! As your mini picks up speed, it jumps over the gap and lands on the track ahead in thrilling daredevil fashion. The final track seems headed for nowhere… but have no fear, as your minis will simply roll off the edge, defying gravity and rolling upside down along the inverted sky track! Playset includes Thomas and James minis engines and works with all minis engines (sold separately and subject to availability).

MINIS coupled together will not work, this will cause the playset to jam up and stop working.
Cost of this Thomas playset is around $50AUD $30USD, I would not be paying any more than this price. Possibly over time the price will relax, especially after Christmas.

Leo gives the perfect dad vibes in this place set. He sounds done with this whole thing and describes several parts of the play set as “hell ride.” XD, we love you Leo.

great video Leo, I had no idea the minis had the ability to hook on an I-beam style track that allows them to do insane twists and hang upside down like a roller coaster. that certainly makes them even more desireable. this play set looks fun. it reminds me of that Racer play set I believe TOMY that was a four track figure 8 that used a conveyor belt lift hill as well. it had mini Thomas, Percy, James, and Mavis with metal wheels.
I know you like roller coaster styles of toys, this has that element for sure. The I beam that these MINIS run on is on a few other playsets that struggle to impress like this playset. I do wonder what sort of elaborate set you could make if you made a much bigger I beam layout. It's really more like a monorail than railway.

I really hope my son is as excited about this play set as I am. We've been on the lookout for a fun playset to go with our Thomas mini's. We have also been having some problems finding Thomas merchandise here in my part of the US. I'm hoping that it's because they're getting ready for new holiday stock. I think this play set's appeal is all factored from the individual's tolerance levels lol. Children and grown ups alike who love the MINIS, will in my opinion experience difference of acceptance of the set and it depends on how they like playing it. Personally I only bought this play set for the exclusive variants of Thomas and James, as well as Cranky, I really only collect the MINIS, but when I set it all up and played with it, to me personally, I found it a 50-50 set. I feel that a set that is made to 'work' so to speak, should not keep playing up, frequently might I add. But like you said in a funny way, it does make it entertaining. I do think this is definitely the best set Mattel has made for the MINIS so far, and it does have lots of points for fun and excitement. I personally would love to see a mellowed down set for the MINIS, where you just push them along but I don't think Mattel would actually ever make one. All in all, its a good set. Loving the exclusive Thomas and James also. Haha, I dare say, Gold Thomas was feeling a little underproductive as he knows the Platinum Thomas is coming soon. :P
Maybe a form of torture would be watching this set for a few hours, either you going to love that or hate it. Considering this is a toy for VERY young children it's well suited to what they enjoy.
leokimvideo Oh dear haha, I think I'd love it during the first moments and then begin to get a little bored over the repetitiveness, not to mention those clashes and line-ups haha. But yes, I agree Leo, at the end of the day, the main demographic are the very young children and with that in mind, I second that, they would love this set to bits. Would be cool to see what your son also thought of this set, especially after his experience with those nightmare pop up sets lol. That really didn't present much. :D

It's not bad, very much like the weird knockoff thomas toys that play out like roller coasters. Yes it gets clogged up but that will keep little minds very busy. Trains crashing is all part of the fun. I'm still waiting for a flat Sodor Island feel Thomas MINIS playset. That's what's really missing. The toy companies are still fighting against the totally free game apps.

Great review Leo! I'm guessing you snagged this off the shelves of Target Australia. In the local targets in the US around where I live, it sells for around 20-30 US Dollars. I know that in Australia things tend to be 10-20 dollars more so that's expensive for this set. I saw your videos on my feed of the Thomas Minis, and I started to enjoy them. The customization abilities with these toys are fantastic but like you said the only down side is the lack of rolling stock and the OK sets out there. These toys are definitely one to be remembered, and will sell great in the future as collectables. These sell for around 1-2 dollars a piece here in the US and you said they sell for 3-4 dollars around where you live :0 That's a lot! I really wish you didn't have to buy all of these yourself and Mattel would look hard and see you make great reviews. Thanks Leo, Luke. :)
I have nearly been on TH-cam for 10 years. Not a single item from Mattel has landed on me. Sort of weird when you think about it. I'm thinking of giving them a miss all next year. Give the smaller toy companies a go.

I agree, It is extremely hard to find these thomas minis sets. I have seen then in Kmart alot though like i've seen the ghost one and pirtae one in kmart but maybe it's different in sydney, I live in perth.

those faces on the minis in the set look kind of like they were painted on with something like a batch ink jet type of printer while the faces move past on a production line.

I bought this set after Christmas it was 37 dollars but it was on clearance so it was 25 dollars. The problem with my set is my blue mid air rail the engines kept getting stuck so I had to wipe it down with water to make it work but eitherway it was a great set at a low price. When you had all eight minis up and running Thomas the one that was in the play set pushed Flynn off but before that he was attached to Flynn and then fell down to wear he should he Been when he started.

Over 100. You can buy the jumbo set with all 100 minis - which includes golden Thomas. If you count the number of minis in the extra sets I don't know. So roughly over 100 for sure.
