- i'm trying out America's version of British food with Anderson Webb, a British lad from London who's a tough critic. We'll let you know if it's good or bad and share our thoughts on the dishes. A good chippy beats most pubs (but I should admit I don't often get fish and chips in pubs). A chippy is the way to go when trying fish and chips in the UK.
I'm not by the coast and in London, but I have a great one near me. I have yet to try the ones in Dundee where I am for uni.

I’m only 49 seconds into this video and I’m already crying. Getting home sick watching LA Vlogs is a given. Getting homesick while watching videos in the San Fernando Valley is a given. But this video hits extremely close to home because I know exactly where Andy and Jake are. And I know exactly what surrounding them. There’s a liquor palace, a Carl’s Jr. a business center and the Shell gas station. Mind me my husbands first apartment was walking distance from that Carl’s junior and the liquor palace. The cross streets that they are on in this video is Burbank Boulevard in one minute Avenue. I lived on Woodman. I would also take that bus that went down Woodman to get to the Fashion Square, Mall. I never had a TH-cam video that I’ve watched. It’s so close to home, but it brought me to tears.

Beer in the uk is gross af anyways just like everywhere else because beer is awful, but that because I’m a vodka or a Malibu kinda gal but yeah defo not mozzarella on the shepherds pie, definitely a strong cheddar
Right! Mozzarella is for pizzas or panini where you want that cheese pull. You want a cheese that'll crisp up for the top. I make cottage pie so the same premise but with beef and never put cheese on top. I want the crisp from the mash.

I think this a regional thing because he was slating dishes on the menu that are definitely served in Britain like the chicken curry pie. A chicken and leek (a veg) pie is a traditional British dish. Also a sausage or bacon sandwich/roll is definitely eaten in Britain.
Yeah it is eaten, but not under those names so much. Btw I live in London and am now in Dundee for uni.
but I assume it was that British people where he is people don't call it that or not commonly. Like a chicken pie or chicken and veg pie and and a sausage sandwich or butty.
That being said I feel it wouldn't be surprising to see something called a chicken curry pie, but the name banger sandwich I feel would be more unlikely, as I only really see It in the name bangers and mash.

Chicken curry pie is called a balti pie in England.
As a British person I’ve tried American ‘British food’ and I threw it all up the night after. Not only was it rubbish it gave me the worst food poisoning.
The fish and 'chips' looked kinda standard for a pub fish n chips, only thing is they aren't chips, they were fries like you get from a takeaway, even pubs here would serve chunky chips but the best are from a proper chippy, fat sweaty half soggy grease filled slabs of potato. Nuff Sed Captain Britain out.

A) I always get chicken curry pasties at my local British store, in Marietta, GA, USA.
B) That’s definitely cheddar, not American cheese. American cheese is basically melted plastic. lol maybe it doesn’t belong on shepherds pie, but it’s real cheese

I'm canadian with british descent, and I was laughing at the chat of everyone wondering what is in sheppards pie. I just assumed it was a north american thing, but i guess its the UK influence in me. for those wondering, it is typically ground beef cooked with thyme, rosemary, carrots, onions, peas, then topped with mashed potatoes and shredded mozzarella, then gone into the oven to crisp up. we don't have gravy with it because usually the beef is moist enough and very decadent
The clue is in the name. It's called a Shepherd's pie as in a shepherd who herds sheep so the meat is lamb. It's cooked with the veg & herbs in stock until the stock reduces to a sauce/gravy then topped with mash and baked. Sometimes, not usually, cheese is put on top but towards the end of the bake time so it doesn't burn. It would not be mozzarella, maybe cheddar. If it's made with beef it's called a Cottage pie.
In 40 years I've never seen heard or eaten Italian cheese on a Sheppard's pie. If you tried serving it 20 years ago they'd burn you at the stake for introducing a pizza topping or as my dad would call it "foreign muck" to proper food.
