      Thanks, Salvador :-) I haven't forgotten our Larson sketch. The Cylon model I was going to build only has a tiny slit about 1cm wide - it's going to be difficult to squeeze all of those SMD's into that small space. But now I'm thinking Knight Rider :-) Thanks for watching and commenting, as always!

      @@fredtedstedman Yup, it does take some of the creativity out of it. But pre-made masks have their own set of problems, like stretching or lifting paint from the surface. I'm not a big fan, although I try them out once in a while, when I'm feeling dangerous, haha!

    Another fine build.
    A brave move, I think, going for that camo scheme with no pre-prepped decals or masks but you have pulled it off beautifully.
    I also love the bits of footage of the real thing. I have worked on these sort of aircraft most of my working life but always look at them in action and think - that's gotta be fun!

    • @OstrichLongneck
      @OstrichLongneck  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alon :-) I wasn't sure that the paint masks would work, but luckily they did their job. LOL, I had to watch a lot of Russian documentaries to find some clips of the real aircraft in action. I still think you have one of the best jobs in the world, though :-) If I wasn't such an imbecile with anything mechanical, your line of work would have been my ideal :-) And you're right, I'm pretty sure it's not all business when a pilot takes one of these machines up into the air! Thanks for your kind comment!

    Thanks for such a great explanation and congrats for the nice result. I was looking for a shortcut to paint my model and actually I've found a complete mask. But I think I will enjoy trying the "artisanal" approach ;-)

    • @OstrichLongneck
      @OstrichLongneck  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jose :-) Thank you so much for your kind comment. I actually searched for a pre-made mask, but couldn't find one at the time. There were only ones for the splinter camo, which looks good too. The masks I applied with 3mm Tamiya tape took about three evenings, if I remember correctly. So it was a bit of effort, but the result didn't look too bad. I hope your model turns out stunning!

    Thanks, nice build. That was a very ambitious paint job, well done. I was trying to decide if I wanted to buy this kit. I just finished the Hasegawa F-35A and am about to start the Revell F-22. I think adding the Su-57 and the Chinese J-20 would round out the Fifth Gen collection nicely.

      @@OstrichLongneck I love the Sukhoi jets , I built blue grey and a yellow/brown Su 27Flankers , then a blue Su 34 (,about 30 years ago ), and last Chrismas a Zvezda Berkut . my leanings are What If ? I like splinter camo , I have a shakey hand so mask and hand paint is ok for me .

The build instructions were not very clear, and I didn't think to Google some reference pictures, which I now do religiously 😁 Thanks very much for checking out the video - and for spotting that awful mistake!

    Great build mate, I'm just about to start the same model and will be using your video as guidance for sure! What is the Johnsons floor wax used for by the way? I assume it is to make clear parts look more realistic? Have you got a link to the product, I'm in the UK so not sure I can buy it here. Cheers!

    • @OstrichLongneck
      @OstrichLongneck  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Alex, thanks for your kind words :-) The Johnson's floor wax is an amazing product. It forms a thin acrylic layer which fills in small scratches and scuff marks on a dull canopy. It's self-levelling and makes clear parts extra shiny. It's an old modelers tip I picked up somewhere. We don't have it in South Africa either - I had to ship it from the USA. The name has changed again, by the looks of things. Here's an Ebay link if you're in the market for some: www.ebay.com/itm/Pledge-Cleaner-Revive-It-Floor-Gloss-Original-27-FL-OZ-FREE-SHIPPING/274702161189?epid=9016410575&hash=item3ff5865525:g:lLgAAOSwUp1gPGQx
