I just came up with a melody for my song after a few minutes of brainstorming and now I'm worried whether i subconsciously copied it or came up with it on my own. I love this video !! I'm glad this issue is being recognised.

"There are not more than five musical notes,
yet the combinations of these five give rise to more melodies than can ever be heard."

This is like saying that since most short combinations of words have been used, no new novels or poems are possible. Not so, at least not yet.

I am wondering what is the Permutation of melodies is with the eight notes (Mathematically)????🤘🏼✍🏼

The math is [number of pitches] ^ [number of notes]. So our diatonic dataset of 8 pitches with 12 notes is 8^12.

As a trained musician, I am pretty skeptical. This doesn’t really address rhythm at all. Or harmonizations. Melody is one thing, sure - but there’s a whole lot more to music than just that.

Hey, fitfirst, I did my Talk in 2019, and the Ed Sheeran decision wasn't until 2022.

I guess he references a major scale.

If you had watched my entire talk (rather than this snippet), you'd see that we've also mathematically exhausted the 12-tone scale. Also, our project addresses pop music lawsuits - how many chromatic pieces have been the subject of lawsuits? Can you name a single one?
