Getting mine installed tomorrow, so excited. I was going to do it myself but my wife doesn't trust me with electrical so we found a vendor that offered a decent deal.
Tell your wife to shut the FU( K up and save you and your family some money and do it yourself lmao. Especially if all your doing is wiring up a receptacle to plug the fan in...
@@justinloriso6467 $1600 for the vendor to put it in then I needed to add 3 square feet of ventilation in the attic so the vents plus tools to do it costed another $350. I'm getting a new AC unit installed as I type this but I still plan on using the house fan first as it's a lot cheaper to run and works amazing to pull cooking fumes out of the house
Keep in mind that if you use this to blow hot air out of this area of your home, it will also keep it cooler in hot weather. i've been wanting to install on of these forever. What about venting? Are ridge vents and soffits enough to expel the extra air going into the attic or is an attic vent fan needed?

What do you do in the winter when you want the hot air to stay in your house when running your heater. Does the damperbox air seal itself when not in use?
That’s what makes this video so lame. A properly ventilated attic is a must for these. Attic fans work best when there’s soffit vents, ridge vents, and gable vents all allowing air to escape.
Yes, this product is designed to be used in those areas during fall and spring. This is a big deal because you have to run ac 9-10 months a year and you can cut it down to only 3 months of heavy ac use. You will save a ton of money and pro long the life of your ac system. Your ac is your most expensive appliance to run and replace. They only last about 12.5 years on avg and you can have it last up 20-30 years if you use a whole house fan during the spring and fall.
Ours is amazing 👏🏽, we have a small mis shapen attic, we have a whole house fan and a smart attic fan. The best home owners addition possible. Booyah 👊🏽 😁 👍🏽 🇺🇸
It is called a Whole House Fan. When ever it is cooler outside than inside your home typically mornings, evenings and nights you run this instead of your ac system. It brings fresh outdoor air into your living space and pushes the air in your home up into the attic and out your attic vents. We have a lot of videos on our TH-cam channel explaining it.
The soffits and vents in your attic let the air escape. You want this to be freely blowing in the attic because it will get rid of hot air sitting up there
You might get better results by getting the fan near a gable vent, but not right up against it, so that the fan's air can scavenge the air near it, thereby blowing more air out of the attic. This acts in a way similar to how to win a bar bet, by betting someone one can inflate a big trash bag like a balloon by just mouth blowing. The trick is the opponent will press his lips to the bag and suffer, while the other guy will blow from a few inches away, filling up the bag much faster, due to his breath scavenging lots of air around it.
@@qcmanufacturing > It doesn't matter Yes, it absolutely does. While it's true that the fan will draw air up from the living area and blow it out of all the attic vents (plus through leaks in wall top plates and around conduit, etc., back into the living space), you absolutely can blow more air out of the attic by placing the fan near an appropriately large exit hole, with a gap to allow scavenging. I urge you to look up some literature about airflow and scavenging. When I have time, I'll see what I can find to add here.
@planethedgehog2427 we recommend a certain amount ventilation in your attic. Yes, you can bring some air through some leaks if you don’t have proper ventilation. You are drawing in fresh air from outside and blowing in the stagnant air to your attic. Two things I think they forget to mention are you need proper attic venting prior to install and you need to crack a window when the fan is on to pull in fresh air.
You turn your ac off and just run this. It's good if it's not too hot outside, you have a smell inside your house you want out or you want a cheaper power bill.
You just need to check the air quality on your weather app most days are good air quality outside. We also recommend pollen Tex screens that block out 99% of the dust and pollen and only allow airflow to pass

Yall gotta make it blow outside the attic. Blowing in the attic will create positive pressure and cause the insulation to get pushed into the house through small spaces between anything in the ceiling

What do you do in the winter when you want the hot air to stay in your house when running your heater. Does the damperbox air seal itself when not in use?
Hi,
Indeed, that is accurate.
The damper box prevents the transfer of air from the attic to the living space when the whole house fan is inactive.
Does the fan just blow into the attic? How does it escape the house?
That’s what makes this video so lame. A properly ventilated attic is a must for these. Attic fans work best when there’s soffit vents, ridge vents, and gable vents all allowing air to escape.
Soffits, ridge vent, gable vents
There's supposed to be a second fan in the gable vent.
Not a good application where it stays 100° + through midnight, till dawn when it will get past 120° (Death Valley, Coachella Valley).

As long as you have other vents which you should by code. WHFs just need attic vents to push out the air any type will work.

Is the heat your getting out of the house going into the attic? Wouldn't that make the attic too hot?
Attic is usually 20 to 30 degrees (or more) hotter then the house air so the house fans cools the attic as well
Only if your house is hotter than your attic.

Is that taking air out? Cuz if not it’s only gonna fill your house with fiberglass dust.
Is this a real question ?
I have HVAC, would this just create a hole in my attic for my heat or cool air to escape?
There is a damper that closes
At most that would be an issue when you're heating the house. The AC wouldn't care about this, even without the damper.
This is only good for a large attic.
