Chen's voice is SO powerful It's scary, and beautiful, and enticing, all at the same time. Kyungsoo's voice is amazing on the Korean version, but damn! Chen did something extraordinary at that part.... overall, it's SUCH a good song.
I was listening to this song on the city bus going home today. The bus made a stop by an intersection, and there was a woman standing there, who was on her phone just chilling/waiting, I guess (I thought she was waiting for the light to turn so she could cross). The song had gotten to the end where Baekhyun slays your soul with that high note at the end of the Korean version. At the stop, a man had gotten off with lots of luggage and a construction hat attached to a backpack. I don't know whether this was planned from the heavens, of this was just a huge coincidence, but when Bacon hit that note, the man and woman looked at each other with SO much genuine happiness, and they had a very long and tight embrace. I don't why, but it was just so powerful and wonderful. I don't know whether they were in love/together or if they were just good friends who hadn't seen each other in a long time... (Maybe a bit of both because when they stopped hugging, he was showing her his tattoos on his arms; almost as if he didn't have them before when they had last seen each other. She looked kind of surprised, but when she looked back at him, she started to smile again). It was soooo sweet! Lol, I might just be making it a MUCH bigger deal than it is, and I don't even think the story in the song is close to the same as what I saw. But all I know is that the whole scene was just so beautiful and now What If (and all EXO songs in general), have me DEEP in my feels, contemplating life and What Is Love (mind you, that was the next song that came up on my playlist), and stuff, haha XD

Chen and Lay's parts are angelic ,D.O too. Its ok I watched this songs live version Chen has very little part there but he was enjoying so much with Chanyeol . His high note is really so powerful yet beautiful . I like if he too can sing that part live,same with the eldorado version. Baekhyun does it so good, so I just once only to see Chen sing this live once. I love all of them but for me I m addicted to Chen's voice more .

I think that this was the cool thing about Exo. If I wanted a rougher and intense tone, I'd go to EXO K. If I wanted a smoother and fluid tone, I'd go for EXO M.

I know this is a late comment, but reproducing my comment in "What if" Korean version's video... This is kind of a R&B song, right?! IMHO, It sounds like "How You Gonna Act Like That" and and "Speechless", both songs sung respectively by the R&B singers Tyrese and Ciara! Great song by EXO though!

i dont like when people points out that because of D.O sang this the chinese members is being deprived. you may argue on your bias but dont put the blame on d.o because song arrangement is not a decision of the singer alone but includes all management etc. Its unfair to make them feel bad for singing their own song. dont give that points because if I as a fan was hurt can you imagine how hurt kyungsoo will be when he read those kinds of comments.
I know it's sad Xiumin didn't sing and some people are annoyed about D.O. being here, but looking at it from a producer/musician perspective goes a bit like this: Xiumin's voice is good, but it's often very light and high and almost airy in the slower songs. Now, really listen to this track. Hear the deep and soulful instrumentation, the heavy bass beat that thrums in your ears. Think about what type of voice would suit such a song. D.O.'s voice is much darker and richer than Xiu's. It melds with the instrumentation but also stands out strongly enough on its own. So don't kill me, but I kinda like that the vocals like Tao and Xiumin had minimal lines in this because there are others that work better with this style of music. I'm not biased towards anyone but Chen, so I'm able to look at these sorts of things from a fairly neutral point of view (even when Chen is involved, because there are pre-OT9 songs I actually prefer the Korean versions of). These are just my thoughts on the matter, feel free to disagree.
Sylfei I totally understand what you're saying and so I'm not arguing with you at all, just staring my personal opinion and any hostilities go to SM because fuck SM :) anyways I see what you're saying and it makes perfect sense, but SM is known for never giving Xiumin and Sehun (he's not relevant for this song tho) any lines, so Xiumin not getting any lines falls too perfectly under that umbrella again for it to be a purely unbiased producer/musician standpoint. If he got around the same amount of lines as the other members in the other songs, then him not getting any lines in this song would make more sense if it really was coming from that standpoint of his voice not fitting the song. However, that's not the case, and even though D.O has an incredible voice that does really fit the song well, there were plenty of other places where Xiumin and Tao could have sung. I think SM is just not the best company at really caring about each individual member, they just care about producing the best sound and while that's of course not a bad thing to care about, it becomes an issue when that's the only thing they care about and they constantly give more lines to the same members over and over again just because it worked in the past. Xiumin and Tao's voices could have worked beautifully for this song especially if they were worked with and helped to sing with a deeper tone for even just this one song (more for Xiumin, Tao's voice is already fairly deep), but SM didn't want to even give them a chance because they knew D.O could do it, so why experiment? Anyways, again I'm not arguing with you, totally understand what you're saying, I just hate SM. That's it lol
I love this song very much. When I listen this song heard d.o voice and I was confused its exo m song so I searched for this video and am glad that I recognized d.o voice instantly. His voice is sooo good but after reading comments I didn't like how people blame d.o because he is in this song and xiumin got little part. But I think d.o voice is much suitable for this song. i dont like when people points out that because of D.O sang this the chinese members is being deprived. you may argue on your bias but dont put the blame on d.o because song arrangement is not a decision of the singer alone but includes all management etc. Its unfair to make them feel bad for singing their own song. dont give that points because if I as a fan was hurt can you imagine how hurt kyungsoo will be when he read those kinds of comments.
I know it's sad Xiumin didn't sing and some people are annoyed about D.O. being here, but looking at it from a producer/musician perspective goes a bit like this:
Xiumin's voice is good, but it's often very light and high and almost airy in the slower songs. Now, really listen to this track. Hear the deep and soulful instrumentation, the heavy bass beat that thrums in your ears. Think about what type of voice would suit such a song. D.O.'s voice is much darker and richer than Xiu's. It melds with the instrumentation but also stands out strongly enough on its own. So don't kill me, but I kinda like that the vocals like Tao and Xiumin had minimal lines in this because there are others that work better with this style of music.
I'm not biased towards anyone but Chen, so I'm able to look at these sorts of things from a fairly neutral point of view (even when Chen is involved, because there are pre-OT9 songs I actually prefer the Korean versions of). These are just my thoughts on the matter, feel free to disagree.
Sylfei I totally understand what you're saying and so I'm not arguing with you at all, just staring my personal opinion and any hostilities go to SM because fuck SM :) anyways I see what you're saying and it makes perfect sense, but SM is known for never giving Xiumin and Sehun (he's not relevant for this song tho) any lines, so Xiumin not getting any lines falls too perfectly under that umbrella again for it to be a purely unbiased producer/musician standpoint. If he got around the same amount of lines as the other members in the other songs, then him not getting any lines in this song would make more sense if it really was coming from that standpoint of his voice not fitting the song. However, that's not the case, and even though D.O has an incredible voice that does really fit the song well, there were plenty of other places where Xiumin and Tao could have sung.
I think SM is just not the best company at really caring about each individual member, they just care about producing the best sound and while that's of course not a bad thing to care about, it becomes an issue when that's the only thing they care about and they constantly give more lines to the same members over and over again just because it worked in the past. Xiumin and Tao's voices could have worked beautifully for this song especially if they were worked with and helped to sing with a deeper tone for even just this one song (more for Xiumin, Tao's voice is already fairly deep), but SM didn't want to even give them a chance because they knew D.O could do it, so why experiment? Anyways, again I'm not arguing with you, totally understand what you're saying, I just hate SM. That's it lol

I love this song very much. When I listen this song heard d.o voice and I was confused its exo m song so I searched for this video and am glad that I recognized d.o voice instantly. His voice is sooo good but after reading comments I didn't like how people blame d.o because he is in this song and xiumin got little part. But I think d.o voice is much suitable for this song. So plz don't blame d.o.
