Right formation but I would suggest different tactics. The reason 3-3-1 is the best formation is because, played properly, you attack with 6 players (right and left backs move up) and you defend with 6 players (right and left midfielders move back. So I would not use the CB to come forward. If you do and the opposition get the ball and switch the play, you are dead in the water if your CB is that high because your last man is the weak side player. In a 4-4-2 you can get away with having 1 CB go forward because you still leave one back. The problem is you only have 1 CB in 8-a-side.
Good stuff. My problem sometime is that my 3-3-1 sometimes turns into a 3-0-4 with every midfielder caught in our attacking third. Sliding my center back forward as you suggest MAY delay the counter long enough for us to recover.
I had my preferred CM play the first half at CB for a few games and after that, he did a better job of controlling the depth of the midfield when I moved him back to CM. We talked about it and what he was able to see from his position at CB gave him what he needed to really take charge of the midfield and their positioning.
I prefer a 2-3-2. While I believe you can make your strategy work, I think it would open you to a counter attack often. I never push up my defenders up that far in this age bracket for the reason. My defender sit about 10 yards in front of the box, when the ball is on offense. The mid fielder add the 3rd attacker depending on what side the ball comes forward on. The 2 remaining midfielders provide depth and try to intercept clearing kicks. I like the display you are using though.
I think it depends a lot on your players. I find that when we play a 3-3-1, we keep opposing shots to a minimum and are able to counter-attack and press pretty well. That might not work as well except the two kids I normally have at CB and CM are very attack-minded, but take their defensive responsibilities seriously.
Great video. My team just joined an 8v8 league and this video will help a lot
helped our team A LOT! Great video

2-4-1 is the best formation for 8 side game.
