  • How powerful is the 2019 BMW R 1250 RT? Cycle World puts the 1,254cc flat twin on its dyno to find out.
BMW's 2019 R 1250 RT is the most sporty of the German manufacturer's touring lineup. Powered by a 1,254cc flat twin, the R 1250 RT is designed to deliver corner-hugging performance with all-day comfort. The RT is available as a single model with a multitude of options and packages, the most common being the Select package. Three color choices are available at no extra charge: Alpine White, Carbon Black Metallic, and Mars Red Metallic/Dark Slate Metallic. For an extra $1,800 two premium color options are available, 719 Sparkling Storm Metallic and 719 Blue Planet Metallic. Base price is $18,645, but most RT's are shipped to dealers with the Select package, raising the MSRP to $23,795.
We ran the R 1250 RT on the Cycle World dyno to measure horsepower and torque numbers. Peak torque is 121.8 hp at 7,530 rpm and 95.7 pound-feet of torque at 6,200 rpm.

122 rear wheel HP, about 10 to 15 more than the r1200rt watercooled. Its from a bore and stroke increase, and a shifting intake camshaft. The boxer has been around since 1923.

Love this bike. Looks clumsy but it’s sooo so nimble and easy to maneuver, and super comfortable of course. And it’s quick. This is why police forces all over the world love it too.

i have a 2010 RT and a 2019 GS, it's funny HD guys whack off to HD power and torque. "yea man, my ride has a 116 inch motor"
and? my boxer has more HP more torque and weighs 300 lbs less. what's your point?

Yes indeed. I once worshipped at the altar of the Harley and owned a twin cam Electra Glide for over 10 years. I then rode a '17 R1200RT three months ago and my paradigm shifted...HARD. By direct personal comparison, the HD is a horrid machine, heavy, cumbersome, HOT as hell, NO power for all that displacement and has the refinement of a 1930's farm tractor. The BMW engineering is simply superb, from engine, to gearing, the brakes and suspension, just an amazing riding experience. Every ride on this RT is a pure joy and I am SO glad I discovered it.

And less reliable than your FJR1300

@@yacinealg152 why less reliable ? bmw boxer has been known and proven for the endurance reliability.. its the choice for anyone that want to ride across the world.

@@harisyoung4110it was. Then about 15 years ago they started putting all these electronics and new tech into these bikes. Some do say they're great, and others say it's the worst bike they've ever owned.
If they where more simple and made by say honda but keep the big touring body and light frame I'd buy one immediately. It's like if the ST1300 kept the same dimensions and lost 150lbs. If honda did that it's a winner.

Yes, but its not the old boxer. Liquid cooled and shift cam technology. I wouldn't say it's as bullet proof as it was
