Great job Chris! On your next epoxy project, you can put some Tyvek tape ( or something similar where epoxy won't stick to it) on the back edge and you should be able to peel it right off when it hardens!
Good idea
Would this pull up the layers on the sides as well? I am about to do a flood coat and have been wondering this 😅 would love to avoid the chiseling step at the end
Hey buddy. I finally finished two projects using this method. Learned a lot from my mistakes. What I’d tell people is don’t be afraid to dig deep for the colors. Gives you more depth to work with should you need to do extra sanding, etc., or re-do a part. :)
So awesome!!!
I love the way you zeroed the final bit with the backing from a PwnCNC sticker!! That's very resourceful!!
Haha that’s my go to for zeroing. It’s like the perfect shape and thickness.
This guy has a soothing voice and winning personality.
That's great! I haven't seen anyone else seal it with shellac. I'm going to have to try that (I don't have patience to seal with clear epoxy)... I REALLY liked your tip on setting the Z zero to the waste board, at the end. Never thought of that. That's going to save my waste-boards from now on!
Awesome. Glad you found some good tips in there. Thanks for watching!
So satisfying and educational. Really great work Chris this video will be a great resource for many people for many many years.
Thanks Chad
Man, that is freaking awesome! Really cool insight to your process. I’m building a cnc plasma table and I love seeing applications using cnc on other mediums. Played with epoxy a bit in the past, I’m going to have to build a router mill now haha
Looks great I been thinking about trying a epoxy sign thanks for sharing.
.
You can pour liquid latex in the bottom of the mdf to put off easily the drips of epoxy
Hey man, that's a special piece on so many levels. Love the work and passion behind the channel. Keep it up.
Beautiful work and great explanation of your process.
Looks great I cant wait to start making smaller progects with the nib 3018 I just bought at yard sale for $10
WOW! What a great looking sign Chris. That thing really pops. Thanks for sharing. John.
Thanks John!
This video was invaluable on my last project.
Awesome
thank you for taking the time to make this video and to share your knowledge, I thought the finished product turned out really nice.
Thank you 🙏
Sweet project dude. Thanks for sharing your process. I will be trying this with my own logo soon. Looks like I had guessed the general steps pretty accurately but you dropped a bunch of extra nuggets here that can only come with experience. Thank you!
Very glad this video came up. Opens up new projects for me. Very nice job on the sign and it looks great.
Thank you 🙏
Outstanding craftsmanship, wouldn't expect anything less.
Thank you
as usual, always impressed. thanks again for sharing
I plan on doing some epoxy work soon, this gave me more motivation
Awesome!
Chris that is really nice work! You have a way of explaining, so everyone understands.
Thank you Larry
A flush cut router bit takes care of those drips like a champ.
Cool project brother keep up with the talent thank you
Thats so cool. It would be cool to have some retro signs done in epoxy.
Thanks. I definitely want to do more to get the garage looking right.
mate from the uk. Thats a crazy good sign !!
Very cool Chris I like the multi layer approach
Thank you
Your videos have been very helpful for me getting started in CNC work.
Awesome 👏
Great job Chris as always. After seeing your Frankenpoko video I felt the cnc inspiration is endless. Ty
Thank you Victor
I bet this same method would work great for some carbon fiber molds!
or roto mold something and then throw it on a 4th axis...
thanks for sharing.
Wow, looking great, Chris!
Thanks!
What an awesome job I really appreciate the detail you gave in making this. Helps us noobs out a lot!! lol
Haha glad it helped
Excellent job. I’m starting out in this hobby and I’m looking for an epoxy that dries relatively quickly. I’m using epoxy that takes a day to dry and it’s way too long. How long is the typical drying time for the epoxy you’re using?
Nice video. That's a Top Tip about using a collar on your bits when you change them.
Nice Jog, really cool finishing tool for the chamfered edges!
Thank you
Really nice work! Greetings from the UK.
Thank you 🙏
Awesome video. This is some next-level stuff, and you make it look so easy. I've got some projects I've been working through, and this gives me a whole new tool set to approach it with.
Thank you 🙏
Chris, Great Job! Thanks for taking time to video the process and share the knowledge. I'm new to the CNC world, this definitely inspires me to try some CNC with epoxy inlay work. Question - why did you use the white paint vs epoxy white powder or dye for the base coat?
Great video. Now you just gave me something else to try. This looks fantastic.
Thank you
What a beautiful sign Chris. You really know your stuff. Thanks for all the info.
Thank you
Nice job.
Thank you
Thanks for taking the time to make the video!
Thank you 🙏
Looks cool! Nice job
Great job thanks for your sharing of knowledge
Thank you 🙏
Really looks great Chris.
Thanks Karl
Great job! I've never seen that process before..very cool!
Thank you
Nice work Chris, great results.
Awesome work ,Chris.
Thank you
Awesome job!
Great job Chris
Thanks Vernon
You gave me inspiration to make a sign for my shop
Do it!
As always Chris great job sir I wish I can have some of your knowledge. Thank you.
You’ll get there with a little practice. Thanks for watching 🙏
Absolutely beautiful sir
Thank you
Nice work. Beautiful sign. Did you have any warpage or cupping you had to deal with?
Thanks. No problems like that. MDF is pretty stable so it doesn’t warp like wood might when carving, and this epoxy shouldn’t shrink.
Amazing work. Always wanted to have a go with epoxy but haven't yet. The big question I have is - what is that tool you used to chamfer the back of the sign?
As always perfect video to learn from and exxelent sign
Thank you
Great video. Using a Sawstop for an epoxy prep work bench makes me nervous. LOL
A tip to help with the back is to put painters tape on it to peel the drips right off.
Great work!
This sign looks amazing!! Awesome work!
Thank you!
Awesome video!!!
As far as I know, during hardening, epoxy is releasing harmful gases. So, why aren't you using eyes and breathing protections?
Excellent.
Would be interested in the collets / setup for bits. Like idea of how setup without having do bit changes.
I didn't see link for them in description.
Awesome video and beautiful results!! Plan to try this soon
Awesome. Good luck.
Good looking sign, nice job
Thank you
Awesome signa man, do you have a video of your Dust collection setup
Nice. Very clear and concise! Great job.
Thank you 🙏
Man, that turned out amazing! Great cnc processes!!!
Thank you!
Very cool. Love this idea. Thanks for the thought process
Awesome. Love the design and thanks for sharing your process.
Thank you
Good info
Thanks
Really Nice Sign! Bravo
Thanks!
What tool did you use to cut the chamfer? You used a small ryobi for the roundover so I'm wondering what the difference was and what the other tool was. Thanks.
outstanding!
Great job! This was really fun to watch. You inspired me to create my sign.
impressive
Thanks
Excellent work!
Thank you 🙏
Looks great, but where's the link for the video on the collars. Maybe I'm missing something. Thx
❤ awesome!
Outstanding work, very creative workflow. Thanks for sharing your work with us 🙏🏼
Good info! Thank you!
Thank you
That came out really sharp
Sorry for a stupid question- once your white base is poured, what type of bit are you using for next cuts? I get the V Bit, but the 1/4”, what style/flute/cut?
Thank you, and amazing project
Fantastic
Thank you
What can I say the others haven't? Well done! Frankly, I didn't know such things were possible with epoxy and I had no idea it machines so good. When you dumped in the white paint I was hooked! I'm a fan of old time and modern mold making and casting and methods. Like when you first poured the white.....The theory is.... Pour in one spot to reduce bubbles, get better fill and for aluminum, no cold shorts. Does your program calculate the volume of a tool path to reduce guesswork when mixing up a batch? I'm a ex tugboat captain and spent two years on a 143' single screw tug with an engine order telegraph, hence your design had my attention! Edit...I'm also a steam enthusiast.
Thank you! I believe it might be able to calculate that. I’ll have to check. I was on the last steam ship the Navy built. The USS Iwo Jima.
Nice job!
Great Job and the sign look awesome. Would you mind sharing how much epoxy you used and the cost?
Thank you. It was about a gallon total. This is what I used. amzn.to/3g7ZOQl
That looks amazing!
Quick question, when you do the backside normally, do you just use the seal you used initially or do you flood coat that as well and just tape the edges so you don’t get drip over on the front?
nice work chris
Thank you
Love it Chris! Great idea!
Thank you!
I love your videos, always informative. Thank you for the detailed information on the process.
Great Video
Thanks Chris, that's really helpful.I've just started making a couple of epoxy filled signs on my Shapeoko. Your sign looks really good.
I notice that you have a router on your machine and wondered why you haven't gone to a spindle. For me the noise of the router itself bugged me, and while the cutting noise is the same, it's a relief not to have the router noise as well. I've put a speed control potentiometer on it, so like you, I can make adjustments to cutting speed and spindle speed on the fly. Anyway, thanks again for a great and generous video.
Thanks. I just haven’t wanted to spend the money on it. It hasn’t been a problem for me.
Great job, It came out great.
Thanks
Love it!!
Good job
Very nice
Sick sign dude
Thank you
I'm looking to this with my logo too Matney Models
How much paint do you use as coloring? Been using the stop collars I learned from you one of the best hacks ever.
You just have to experiment with it.
wow great video and info chris, btw what is that hand router at the end you are using on the back side. :)
Thank you. It’s a 12v Bosch
