Happy New Year Jeff and Family.
Iv got a question, is granite a igneous rock?
I know metamorphic rocks are created under heat and pressure and I often notice the layering in the grains in them.
      But granite seems different.
Can you help me shed some like on the different ways to the different between ingenious and metamorphic.
I know this sounds like a stupid question but I’m trying to learn and understand.

@@BustedknucklesProspecting imagine the life cycle of rock in a circle, Igneouse being molten and then solidified. Sedimentary being eroded once solidified igneouse. Metamorphic being heat and preasure altered Sedimentary and it goes back to molten again. Granite is molten rock or magma that solidified under high preasure conditions before reaching the surface forming dense crystals but is still classified as igneouse.

My gold is highly specific occurring in plio/Pleistocene metasediments that are non-marine/lucustrine that were implications of churn near large fault zones in the early miocene and volcanism in the mid miocene. The gold is in non-sorted, broken breciated rock complexes.
It was this channel that got me interested in the environment that the origin of gold comes from. This allowed me to avoid the known spots that were trashed heavily and find the areas where the gold would be that haven’t been hit yet.
I’m no geologist and I feel I may have missed a calling simply because I love that aspect of it all most.
Thanks to Jeff for sparking this interest for sure. I have just over a year of hard study and loving the continued education into geology.

Ok, my grandfather used to live in arizona. He used to tell me how he would walk the creeks and such to look for black sand. From your vids i now know that its magatite. He used to bucket up that sand and put it through a discrimiter. Very fine gold was found there. When he sold the place, he left it all behind.

Thanks for the lesson, wish I could go on one of your trips. This is from the area where I used to live, also the source of a lot of placer in the area: The vein system is hosted by the Rossland monzonite which is comprised of a biotite-hornblende-augite monzonite stock that intrudes augite porphyry of the Rossland sill. The Le Roi vein was formed by mineralization replacing wallrock along well defined fractures and by filling fractures and faults with pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite. The gangue consists of altered host rock with lenses of quartz and calcite. Actinolite forms rosettes of silky green needles between chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite. Minor pyrite occurs as well formed crystals in the pyrrhotite and as disseminations in the host rock. Garnet crystals are associated with the pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite which occur in fractures with quartz.
Native silver has been reported in pyrrhotite rich ore from the Le Roi central zone. It occurs as blebs along the grain contacts of pyrrhotite and at the contacts of pyrrhotite with magnetite and gangue. Small grains of a silver bearing mineral, probably stromeyerite, with heavy surface stain are associated with the silver.

Hey Jeff, in answer to your question, most of the gold around here is placer deposit, probably greenstone in origin. While it's flour gold usually, Mr. Dyer down Southern Ohio way has pulled up some bits out that are much chunkier. The problem is that most people outside of the hobby are either oblivious, or will insist that there ain't no gold in Ohio. I've tried to get permission to pan parts of Pymatuning Creek (untouched, but they did find gold in the Shenango nearby years ago), but most of the farmers look at me like I've grown a third eye, so it's pan a little here and there whenever I can.

Some of the mining district in the Sierras are really interesting to walk around. I know one spot that is a contact zone between a granitic plutonic intrusion and a huge dolomite body. The contact is loaded with a huge range of minerals. A copper mine with bornite was the primary ore was established in the skarn, but the terrain was so rugged the mine couldn't afford the wear and tear and up keep even with a tremendously rich ore transporting the ore. Oddly, no gold to speak of. There are something 60 odd other sulfide minerals, as well as grossular garnet, and a natural cave right across the river from the mine. Another farther north and much higher had really rich, gold and copper bearing deposits, but they are only about six feet deep. Below that granite. Above that glaciers came by and wiped the rest of the minerals away and converted them to alluvial gold deposited down stream. Most of the gold I've seen was alluvial. The most unique was a piece of wire gold in a white quartz arrowhead.

Hey Jeff, most of my mines around the kingman/mcconnico area is fissure faults in a mesothermal zone.... meaning im working a fissure which consists of a mixture of quartz and sulphide banding just as you mentioned and I DO roast the sulphides. The sulphides include iron pyrite, galena and chalcopyrite. The fissure is just loaded with mineralization and if im not mistaken there is very high chances of sulphides carrying precious metals. The fissure itself is near vertical and is 2 ledges four to five feet apart.
When I first acquired the mine im currently working they started that as just a trench but then sometime later on they ended up fully timbering the trench into a portal then driving a shaft down. They only got to like 12 feet and timbered it like they was going to go down further but stopped for some reason and since I've had the mine I drove the shaft about another 50 feet or so. The mine is actually very stable and doesn't require much timbering, if any at all because the ledges are made up of very hard rock. One ledge is gneiss while the other ledge is of a quartzitic nature. Only thing I did as I further drove the shaft is loaded stulls every 8 feet with 3 stulls each 8 feet, one in the middle and one at each end horizontally so that I can lay planks when I extend my ladders down in there as I'm driving the shaft. And yes I do dig hitches for the stulls to set in then I wedge them into the hitches. As for my ladders, I run crosspieces that I can tack my ladders to. I use to just bolt my ladders directly to the footwall with 10 inch lagbolts cemented into the rock because I have heard some mines have done that before but the only problem with that is if the rock wall shifts so I started adding the 4 by 4 crosspeices to tack my ladders to in case I need to do maintenance on them.

And of course, we got the Gold Rattler commercial prototype wash plant up and running, and it's catching lots of gold ! Looking forward to a fantastic 2023, getting the Gold Rattler in production, explore that vent, and maybe start digging a drift mine ? And best of all, we're traveling to Nome, AK, to get some Bering Sea Gold ! Care to join me ? Love your education videos ! We smashed that LIKE button and hit the Share button to show our friends. As an underground miner in a low yield mine I entered a level of the mine that I had not yet encountered. I found the "Loci" and highballed to the surface where the levels intersected. The mine was dark like the inside of a cow. We only had our head lamps powered by a belt mounted battery. The belt also supported a escape kit in a metal can and a rap wrench to tighten up loose fittings. Later I used the Loci to restock explosives in the magazine.

There's an outfit online called Action Mining and I was told plus I think I seen somewhere that they sell a special flux that is specially made just for high sulphidic ores. It's supposed to automatically oxide the sulphides without having to roast them but I searched thier website and couldn't find the flux listed. I have to roast the sulphides that comes out of my mines too because the ground is super sulphidic so I figured I'd try this flux Action Mining supposedly has but can't find. Maybe Jeff knows more about that flux and how to go about getting it. 🤔

I am going to a gully this week and about four feet up above the water line is a blue gray clay layer with about one foot of cobbles above, then a layer of dirt, I believe it is the old creek and plan to dig back into and down to that layer, the area has plenty of gold, especially after heavy rain. I am hoping to find the source. Hny!

I seem to be in a hodgepodge geological area. I'm in Yreka CA, Klamath Mountain region. Mt Shasta on the east, Marble Mountain to the west. Basically it looks like a whole lot of different geology was loaded into a giant mixer, gave a quick whirl and dumped out. I can't make heads or tails out of it. Most especially in the Humbug Mining District to the west of here. Intrusion dykes every which way.
Gold Districts of California Bulletin 199, 119? is about as clear as mud for this area. The colored map was still with it, but it doesn't seem to jive with the descriptions in the bulletin.

I was planning creeks in the high sulfadation region around Helena Montana on a day when a volcano erupted in Washington state. Had to head for cover before we were covered in ash, or the lighting started a forest fire. Fun day though. Question. Iused to find a lot of pyrite around the quartz veins I'd find. Is there any connection between the fools gold, Mica, and the real gold that leads to higher concentrations to the (right kind of ) shiny?

yes ...sulfides can sometimes carry Gold with them ...not always ...crush , concentrate , roast and pan again
