I was worried about the lack of evidence in this story. I thought it might be an unpopular video because of that.
@@CuriousWorldProductions Numerous witness accounts, numerous body parts found in various states at various parts of the river, one with clear newspaper print on it, those are fascinating bits of evidence. But the lack of a solid lead on a suspect or even the identity of Jane Doe, this just highlights the reality of so many murder cases. And who knows, what if this upload jogged someone's memory somehow, or inspires an investigator to reopen the case?

The Thames foreshore behind that pub was, in the past, the site where convicted pirates were executed by the Admiralty. Those stone steps have been witness to the last journey of many, many people.

Jack the Stripper is a different serial killer than Jack the Ripper people! He said it correctly in relating to these cases during the 1950s/60s.
I don't know why you keep harping on this. Not one commenter has mentioned Jack the Ripper , except in an historical context; which makes sense since he was active almost 100 years before 1966 and NONE of his victims were left in any water, let alone the Thames. Read better before you comment.

This just makes you think how many of these murderers took their sordid secrets to the grave. I said this before but for those victims not to be identified is like being murdered twice. Very very sad.
And probably lived for decades afterwards with their conscience not bothering them.

It makes you wonder how many more bodies are in The Thames and other rivers, lakes and lochs in the UK. So sad that so many people go unreported...
There are very few people who are truly missing, rather than dead
Or buried in fields, moors, or woodland. .... And the scope for disposing of bodies in the US, and in deed much of the rest of the world, is even greater wherever there are large rivers, forests and wilderness.

In the 90's, a school friend of mine was murdered & some of her body parts were found in The Thames.
You should create a series called 'Thames Tales' there is a treasure trove of macabre stories there.

Never heard of this one, the only Thames torso murders I had heard of was cases between the years 1887-1889 (one victim was a pregnant woman identified as Elizabeth Jackson which some believe can be attributed to Jack the Ripper). Thank you for great content.
There was torso murders in the US in the 1930s

Wasn't one of those body's found in the building site for Scotland Yard .. the torso murders could have started as early as 1873 with the last in 1902. .
How frusterating for the police. How incredibly sad for her and her family.

Grisly but very interesting! Finding those "missing" body parts would not be a very nice experience, even for those with a strong stomach.
Imagine being family, and being asked to go identify. Thank God there are people willing to do post mortem examinations. We need them done, and I know I'm not capable.

I kept hearing "whopping" instead of Wapping. To be fair, "Whopping ol' stairs" would be a tremendously british name for a set of stairs.

"tremendously british...." yes, it's a source of fascination to some of us americans to see terms like that in the discourse. Americans have to read it twice and then try to figure out what was meant. And yes of course its on this side of the pond where the english language has evolved (strayed, really) into something that likely pains british ears. But for us, to see these words is like a glimpse back in time. What on earth could 'wapping' have come from??

The Thames has been a dumping place for bodies since people have been in that area. I’d love to see it someday. l love watching the Thames mudlarker channels, it’s always so fascinating, the stuff they find, including human bones. Being from a young country, I’m very envious of London’s history.

During the periodic dredging of sections of the Thames in order to clean up the waterway/s there must have been any number of bodily remains discovered, many being far too degraded to ever successfully identify. I'd no prior knowledge of this case though the 2001case of 'Adam' I distinctly remember. It's just so tragic that for some families the answers to what happened to their loved ones will never be known. I appreciate the effort you put into your videos.
JohnPaul Dixon people who do “mud larking “ on the Thames banks find bones all the time. TH-cam videos of it too!! Of course some are centuries-old and not from murder but accidental drowning and/or dumps of already dead people by families who couldn’t afford burial.

Absolutely superb research and presentation. I have lived in the Greenhithe/Northfleet area for 48 years and never knew about the gruesome discovery or any other aspect of this tale. Thank you for bringing this little known tale to everyone’s attention in such an engaging, respectful fashion.

This is very well-researched and presented, well done. It's a sad case. I always think two things when presented with cases like this: whether modern forensics would have helped, and to always keep in mind that as interesting as such cases are, these are the stories about real people who were murdered and discarded. Obviously there's not much likelihood of a case like this ever being solved, but sometimes all we can do is bear witness. And that's what this video does.

I believe Pepys mentions walking down those very steps on his way to catch what would today amount to a 'water taxi' several times! Fascinating to see them first hand.
Given that the currents and sandbanks of the Thames are so well mapped it is surprising the policemen could not determine a point where the body parts were all thrown in to the river. Of course it could be the killer drove around and disposed of the remains piecemeal. Actually I suspect this is most likely as the remains were almost certainly frozen solid before he dismembered them. Whether this in turn was done all at once or whether he 'paired' chunks away immediately prior to disposing of them singly is an interesting thought in itself.

Another well presented quality video. Very informative. I lived and grew up in London until 2 years ago and I've never heard of this crime. There must be so many "forgotten" murders in and around London over the years.

Man I remember my grandfather after drinking in the Town of Ramsgate taking me down those stairs at night as a small child to see the Thames, I remember being Creeped the hell out, I know why now.

I was working in London Bridge hospital from 89-96. It’s on the patch of Thames where Adams body was found-Tooley St. SE1 in between the bridges. One foggy night.. we were driving down Tower Bridge Road early hours of morning and seen a very tall man carrying a huge roll of carpet over his shoulders-gaunt bald and thin. Definitely look like there was something in it but we were too messed up to stop and ask what he was doing. Must have been 93ish. Maybe earlier or later.
Fantastic documentary with amazing narration. I'm very pleased the Curious World channel was suggested, perhaps because of my proclivity for the macabre, mysterious, and a tad ghoulish. I'll be back!
