    Chinua Achebe wrote “Marriage is a Private Affair” in 1952, eight years before Nigeria won its independence from the British Empire.     Marriage is a Private Affair' is a short story by Chinua Achebe. In the story, a young man defies the conventions of his society to choose his own wife, refusing to marry the woman chosen for him by his father.
