  • If you're into synths on anything more than a casual basis, chances are you've heard of Tatsuya "Tats" Takahashi. His involvement with the rise of the affordable analog cannot be underestimated. During his time at Korg, he has been instrumental in the new wave of affordable mass produced analog synthesizers that we've come to expect.

Thanks Nick for finally getting to hear from the man himself, great interview! Korg took a chance with Tatsuya and set an example for other manufacturers to follow. Analog for the masses! Making it fun, affordable and accessible will inspire so many new people to create . I hope Korg will continue with Mr. Takahashis ethos, Korg will be remembered for helping to spawn a new generation of raw and lively music that´s been missing in the DAW age. Waiting for those VolcaMixer/FX, Volca 8bit and VolcaNoise... ;)

volca mixer is a nice idea, maybe even with a digital reverb per channel

For a moment, I thought: he's moving to Germany, and Behringer is creating an entire synth division-more than a coincidence? But, I don't think that's likely; I don't see Behringer/MUSIC Group listed in Cologne, anyway. Also, I'm gratified to learn he studied in England. I'm often struck by how British his English-speaking accent sounds. Such a cool guy-the return of analog was, for so long, a high-demand, low supply affair! Thank you, Tatsuya!

He specified somewhere he isn't moving to a competitor or working on synths. He's also staying on at Korg as an advisor. Also for now, Behringer's synths are designed by the Midas team in the UK.

Can't wait to see what this guy does next. It seems his work with Korg has given new life to analog synthesis...love that he says it's here to stay.

This man has cost me so much money!!! But I love what he has done. A successor to Dr Bob Moog?

This guy revolutionized Korg and set them on a good track for the future. They'd be really stupid not to continue on that way.

"I just wanted to go to Korg". I can totally understand that. My first analogue was a Mono/Poly, and I've loved the quirkiness of Korg's stuff ever since. The Mono/Poly is still around, in the hands of my brother, while I now have a Synthe Bass SB100, Maxi-Korg 800DV, Triton and several Volcas.

I hope he would keep making electronic instruments. Just not in the slim key size format. Would love it if he would take the 'Dave Smith' independent route. That would be absolutely awesome. Can you imagine? Premium polyphonic analog synthesizers from Takahashi. What ever he will do, wish him the best..!

I'm so glad Korg had him for as briefly as they did. So much of what Tats created has influenced my sound and workflow. Also, the affordability of them all was ingenious. I can't wait to see what comes next.
