Hate Bush but I do admit, this will always perhaps be the most memorable election in this country as I think Florida was decided by 537 votes. Never thought I would see an election end this close.
Even though they got it wrong twice, coverage like this doesn't exist anymore. Today, you would have about a dozen voices and tainted by political bias of the network. Less is more. Tim Russert was one of the fairest people in politics. GOAT. I remember hearing J. alters commentary live about the 'popular vote' argument. Still one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.
+JeffreyG61 Yeah I agree 100%. Tim and Tom made me love politics the way I do. 2000 and 2004 I fell in love with the process due to their coverage. They were great at what they did and had a passion for it. Since Tim's death in 2008 and since Tom retired it's been a serious downgrade. Chuck Todd's okay I guess but he can be biased at points and the lead anchors aren't as passionate. Williams was okay, Holt worries me a little. It was a disgrace seeing Tom thrown to the side during the 2012 coverage he deserved so much better than that.
+IblewuponyourfaceIII Chuck Todd makes me want to puke. He talks condescending to what he believes are 'ordinary Americans.' He doesn't 'get' America outside of DC/Manhattan/San Fran.
Gore had nobody to blame but himself for losing the election. There were more electoral votes in Arkansas and Tennessee together than in Florida. Gore is as big of name in Tennessee as Kennedy is in Massachusetts and he still lost his home state. Can you imagine a Kennedy losing the Presidency because he couldn't carry Massachusetts? He also lost Arkansas. If he had Bill go nail down Arkansas and he carries his own state, he wins.
Definitely, without a doubt, the most memorable U.S. presidential contest yet - and a true "bumpy" ride at the start of the new millennium. For me, this is the second-best broadcast coverage of the 2000 presidential election on American television. Great graphics, majestic theme music, unbiased analysis - the best chemistry from Tom and Tim (RIP)... no election coverage can match this till today. What a shame!
Man its literally the same thing as 2020 however it wasnt just florida it was arizona, michigan, nevada, wisconsin, alaska, north Carolina, Georgian, and pensalyvina
Does anyone else get the feeling that the pundits are talking slower than they do now? Is it possible that maybe back then, without the internet and instant news we have now, there wasn't as much of a need to speak/digest information as quickly?
Only 13 years ago but this looks like an 80's tv broadcast. Never realize how quickly things change. Seriously, theyre using white boards for one of the most expensive broadcasts every 4 years. Now Wolf Blitzer just waves his hands over the floor on every evening broadcast and images appear.
hey jim heath, how come you don't have a complete documentary on this election like you do for 88, 92, and 96? the world would love for you to make one :)
Good grief. I'm glad I wasn't old enough to be aware of any of this at the time, because I thought election night 2012 was stressful. Guess I haven't even seen close.
This was the first election I voted in. I remember watching until the wee hours of the morning and turned off the tv assuming Bush had won but got up the next morning and found out it was still up for grabs. The greatest election night in history.
I have been waiting years for someone to put a montage of election night 2000 on youtube. you have done a fantastic job sir, only wish the outcome was much much different
next year marks 15 years since the infamous chad vote....this year marks 10 years since I voted in the presidential election for the first time. Bush Jr prevailed over Kerry..:(. I was born a month late of election day so my dad voted for Gore that year. Bush's first term became huge with 9/11 yet his second term was crippled by the 2008 crisis in the economy.
***** Yeah the guy who believes in science and climate change is the idiot. Not the guy who brought us into 2 useless wars costing us billions, ruining our economy, and passing laws like the Patriot Act to violate American freedoms. Just my thought lmao
Farryknight I respect your thoughts and agree with you on a couple of things. Yeah Bush wasn't the best president, but at least he loved America. I've just always had a bad feeling about Al Gore and I have no idea what it is and thats a lot of why im glad bush won. Maybe it's just me lol. But yeah I agree the wars were pretty pointless
America will NEVER elect anotherBush, and the Republicans would be dumber than hell to run another Bush. Because it would give the Democrats a proxy to run against: they would easily portray Jeb as just like George. I know that Jeb is not the same as George, you know Jeb is not the same as George, but that will be the Democrat tactic. The Republicans should run Rand Paul. He can win young votes, he can win older votes, he can win Northern States AND Southern states. He will be a good candidate.
Florida, Florida, Florida? How about if only Algore had won his home state of Tennessee, Tennessee, Tennessee?
The Associated Press, meanwhile, played it _very_ safe and did not declare a winner while that whole Florida mess played out in front of millions.
Hate Bush but I do admit, this will always perhaps be the most memorable election in this country as I think Florida was decided by 537 votes. Never thought I would see an election end this close.
***** every vote matters
Only 13 years ago but this looks like an 80's tv broadcast. Never realize how quickly things change.
24 years now

JeffreyG61 Tim Russert was the only one who ask both Bush & Kerry in the 2004 election about them both being in Skull & Bones...
+JeffreyG61 Yeah I agree 100%. Tim and Tom made me love politics the way I do. 2000 and 2004 I fell in love with the process due to their coverage. They were great at what they did and had a passion for it.

Brokaw and Russert had great chemistry
They were best friends. Tom Brokaw was in tears when he had to report his death
Maybe if Gore won his home state (Tennessee), he would've been President.
Just notice how confident the Bush camp was for Florida when all the networks called for Al-Gore. Seemed they knew, they can't lose Florida at all.
They had hope, the polls hadn't closed in Florida in the Central Time area
Not hard to see why Tim Russett was such a tough act to follow
Russert used the white board for his own purposes, it was not part of the network graphics. The white board allowed him to do some quick math.
there was internet in 2000.
@@narddog2311 of course there was. Al Gore invented the internet in 92.

How do you go from Russert and Brokaw to Matthews and Sharpton?
15 years today. Wow!!! I remember going to my aunt's house after LL practice.
lol I thought you were that MySpace guy for a moment
13:20 - Tom Brokaw has his "oh shit" moment.
Man its literally the same thing as 2020 however it wasnt just florida it was arizona, michigan, nevada, wisconsin, alaska, north Carolina, Georgian, and pensalyvina
1:54 LOL Brokaw called it
Little did Brokaw know how bumpy this would be....

I was glued to my TV set, and when I found out G.W. Bush, I was stunned and shocked that he won.
Little did any of us know what was to come.
Forgetting everything that happened afterward, that was some Election Night.
hey jim heath, how come you don't have a complete documentary on this election like you do for 88, 92, and 96? the world would love for you to make one :)
The Daily Show got it right. It was "InDecision 2000".
I miss Tim Russert!
Apparently the broadcasters forgot about the Harrison family...
William Henry Harrison and Benjamin Harrison
TOM WAS RIGHT IT WAS EXCITED AND BUMPY RIDE
Good grief. I'm glad I wasn't old enough to be aware of any of this at the time, because I thought election night 2012 was stressful. Guess I haven't even seen close.
These people must've had to drink a lot of coffee, or eat a lot of candy bars, in order to be up all that time to 5AM.
This was the first election I voted in. I remember watching until the wee hours of the morning and turned off the tv assuming Bush had won but got up the next morning and found out it was still up for grabs. The greatest election night in history.
I can't wait for an Ohio recount!!
I have been waiting years for someone to put a montage of election night 2000 on youtube. you have done a fantastic job sir, only wish the outcome was much much different
12:55 ugh that is disgusting. Just thinking about a fundraiser running my state scares me. Don't elect Terry McAuliffe!
I miss Tim Russert. Meet the press has never been the same since he passed 😢
They called Florida for Gore at first
The news people must have had to drink a lot of coffee, and maybe eat a lot of chocolate, in order to stay awake as long as they did.
Watching this I'm reminded of the dread I felt at this time. It was just a disturbing situation.
William and Benjamin were grandfather and grandson.
16:25 If only it stayed that way, we would've been spared.
11:50 Best part of the video.
Brokaw said father-son. WH Harrison and B Harrison were grandfather-grandson.
The Secretary of State's website...oh my.
Amazing watching Daley, from one of the most corrupt political Chicago families, trying to prolong this contest for Gore
Chicago: Breeding ground for all political daftness and corruption.
I voted for Bush twice. I think Gore won.
The perversion of democracy is kind of upsetting, in fairness.
I had went to bed around 3 am that night after they called it for Bush I didn't know gore went back ahead of Bush
If feel sick, AGAIN!!!
I was 6 years old. The only chance America was given to avoid what we are in today 🤦🏽♂️
so true
23 😢
... difficalt?
I believe America would be way better had Al Gore or John Kerry were elected President.
They had good reason to.
They weren't father and son. They were grandfather and grandson.
GORE THE REAL PRES BUSH HAD HIS DADDY ROVE AND HIS BROTHER AND THE REPUBLICAN COURT GIVE HIM THE PRESIDENCY
next year marks 15 years since the infamous chad vote....this year marks 10 years since I voted in the presidential election for the first time. Bush Jr prevailed over Kerry..:(. I was born a month late of election day so my dad voted for Gore that year. Bush's first term became huge with 9/11 yet his second term was crippled by the 2008 crisis in the economy.
36 days without a president? who was running the country?
No
Bias
Channel
Alright....
Me too. :`(
No, he wasn't. It wasn't even as close as it was seen to be.
If Gore had won then Bush would have run again in 04 as challenger
Tom brokaw predicted that would be that would be the case in the 2000 election at 2:36
i'm glad al gore didn't win. He was an idiot. Sorry if you don't think that. It's just my thought.
***** Yeah the guy who believes in science and climate change is the idiot. Not the guy who brought us into 2 useless wars costing us billions, ruining our economy, and passing laws like the Patriot Act to violate American freedoms. Just my thought lmao

Funny, half country became depressed after realizing the mistake they made...twice.
America dodged a bullet that election. Now lets work together and elect Jeb. We DON'T need another Clinton.
America will NEVER elect anotherBush, and the Republicans would be dumber than hell to run another Bush. Because it would give the Democrats a proxy to run against: they would easily portray Jeb as just like George. +ANTI- COMMUNIST Jeb Bush is losing and going nowhere..better find another GOP loser to support
Seconded
AL GORE SHOULD HAVE WON
Florida should just be kicked out of the US. It's just too damn divided.
I love obama but if gore had won theyd be no prez obama
obama 2012
And people think their vote "counts". What an illusion.
