Every aspiring drummer needs to watch this. I remeber working at guitar center at 18 thinking I knew what good drumming was and our manager threw this on. Was right when it came out. My jaw was on the floor. I think the phone rang and customers way the counter and I was to dumb founded to even respond. This is absolutely one of the best displays of playing it gets. His early videos are even crazier. This guy should be worth millions
I grew up watching every last DCI video on the face of the earth, and NO ONE does vocabulary + finesse + composers wet dream + POWER like Dave. Straight up monster.
Oh ya ..I agree Dave is up there as one of the great solo masters...gavin harrison and Benny Greb I have to also mention..because all three of these gentleman create such musical Solos with almost endless vocabulary ...I've heard so many solos...but this is unique and can't be duplicated...period..
The showmanship of beating your cymbals like you’re pissed at them is off putting. Technically brilliant, but another boring chopfest drum solo. No story, no journey, just a demonstration of “every lick I know”. 🥱
2024 and I'm here again! I always go back to watch this one of my favorite drum solos of all time.

dave is so underrated. he's incredible on John Petrucci's first solo album Suspended Animation

Honestly couldn't disagree more, this isn't close to a "chop fest", one of the more musical solos out there in my opinion 🤷♂️
