Agreed! I love the syncopation in his rhythm parts especially during this live version and the little nuisances he throws in here and there that are different from the studio version ! Such a gem his playing was soooo clean and sparkly during this era and still is ! Absolute legend.

Plane J Beats & Producing don't you just love when a guitarist can play at the speed of light with all that feeling? I'll never forget the first time I heard "Venus Isle".This cat is special.
How many people actually realized the absolute majestic playing from the heart? Matters not in the long run….was recorded for all to enjoy thank the maker!
I imagine this is what you hear on the way to heaven, the ending screaming guitar, sounds like an angelic welcome after a hard life. Thank you Mr Johnson
That sound man, so freaking amazing. I´m discovering all this now, mind blowing. Eric you are a legend man, thank you for your work and love for music.
Eric puts me in the zone, transported and makes me feel good about being on this planet. That there is more meaning in life. what a soul? Bow and respect.
Eric Johnson and his band, no crazy light show or effects, just three great musicians playing their butts off (and they sound like twice as many musicians up there), making consistently great music! Also Eric always has that incredible sound and such beautiful tasteful playing!!
@@Michaelgracon yes, but Cliffs of Dover was done on a 1964 Gibson SG in the studio and now out live....I sat and talked to him about it when our paths crossed on tour...I am a guitar player of that ilk.
I saw E.J. in Atlanta @ Center Stage in the early 90's...no flash, but he played the shit outta that Stratocaster! I never knew a Fender could sound so good. He's my guitar hero!
saw him on the G3 tour I decided that even though I played 5 nights a week in needed to practice more. Not band practice but the kind of practice where you have to go to lessons. Glad I saw that show, thanx EJ.
Eric is my favourite guitar player ever, he is an outstanding musician with the best taste I've ever seen in one. Listening to one of his songs is for me like being in an Art gallery repeatedly, where you discover new amazing things in paintings you know very well, his music has this effect. Man I wish he gets a lot of positive things and happiness, because his music has brought so much joy in the life of so many.
Still! It's was a lifetime ago that I heard about Eric from a friend in Austin. Shortly after, I went to see him in a small club in Santa Barbara. 25 years ago, and he looks the same, and plays more awesome than ever! Smooth and luxurious.
Listening to this I can imagine a spirit soaring from a body for the heavens seeking loved ones who passed before them. A celebration of life past and beyond
Saw Eric very early on in college station and houston, in 1982. Small venues front row, be cause my friend knew Tommy Taylor. Got to sit in on sound check then show. The man is a God!
This first time I ever heard of or saw SRV was when Eric took me to a small bar on 6th St? or Congress in Austin called After Hours or After Ours because it was open after hours. SRV and LouAnn Barton and band were the Double Trouble act. Good times.
*BEST* Version of this song, PERIOD.

AMEN!

This dude never gets lost on the guitar.
The sound that we’re hearing seems to come directly from inside his head, doesn’t it? That’s the mark of a top level musician.
... or piano either. It's kinda scary that it's not something he's more known for.
thats what happens what you learn every part of the frerboard, have your theory down and improv, thats why hes that good.
@@hirawstra8edge137 to an extent. He’s beyond that though. Definitely GOAT status along with SRV and Jimi himself

He said he had piano lessons as a child and plays his chords like a piano chord.
this is what an electric guitar is sposed to sound like
Perfect tone, start to finish.
Clean and amazing
2:08 God
How tasteful he is! Gorgeous perfomance, SRV would have been proud.. And his guitar tone is something out of this world
So clean!
2:23 the ending to the break. The tone!!!

Possibly my favorite live version of SRV ever. Everything is just as good as it could possibly be. Thank you, Eric Johnson.
YES. :)
It kinda sucked, chording over whole Jimmie Vaughan solo. No, this was not good at all is my opinion.
@@MM-tt3np dude wtf that was sick
@M M your opinion of Eric Johnsons live performance should be regarded in the same way that your spelling and grammar is. Which is to say not at all.

In my opinion, this is the best song he plays.

Eric Johnson = Forever COOL! 👍🏻👍🏻
Playing rhythm and lead at the same time is a guitar superpower
That drummers so into it just up there killing it too
Love the consistency of Eric's playing! Absolutely amazing musician!
When I first heard this song I knew it was a tribute without even seeing the name. What a great farewell to his friend.

This track, SRV is also on his cd Venus Isle. I always play it loud on my High End stereo equipment. Also check the track GEM from the CD Up Close.
lo bueno de este artista es que siempre hace una version mas actualizada, se nota que tiene una gran tecnica, y lo muestra en todo el tema.
This live show it was taped at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion Woodlands, Texas ((8-28-1993))
