Used to go there every year in the early/ middle sixties with my parents and siblings. Also visited a few times in recent years, many happy memories. Had everything a family needed for a simple holiday, had everything you needed! Beautiful beach, likely stayed in one of these once beautiful chalets. Shame no money is being spent and being left to fall to bits!
Is Jaywick really that rough ? I mean I remember seeing the famous american chevy Impala abandoned on the sea front after being hit . No one vandalised it, no one set fire to it. If that was left in somewhere life Bradford, it would have been torched. Maybe the people are just wrapped up in their own personal bubble to care or bother anyone else but not wealthy enough to do up their homes. The abandoned buildings aren't burnt down either.
Aways the fear of another flood thats why there is no investment holiday chalets were never built to last they were basic wooden huts but as a kid in the in the late fifties had wonderfull times there
Simple answer (no rent no rates) for 5 years and get each road to start redecorating and refurnishing the properties using the more delapitated ones and what's the local mp who's on £50,000 a year plus perks doing,drag him out there,
A workmate of my dad's had two bungalows in Golf Green Road and we had lots of holidays there. The beach was great and I remember walking back with the family in the dark from Butlins fair in Clacton munching on a bag of chips. Sad to see the place degenerate so badly.
Our family always went there for summer holidays,there were shops Brooklands social club,amusements,donkey rides, Fish and chip shops,Model dairy restaurant and the beach. and nearly only all chalets were for for summer months such a shame that it’s come in such disrepair,it should have a compulsory order to be bought and rebuilt The beaches now are lovely and would attract people buy property and live there.
Happy childhood memories in Jaywick. My parents rented a Bungalow there every year. I loved the four seater bikes, and we always fed the donkeys. Got it all on cine film. Sadly over the years all the rubbish moved in, and turned it in to what it is today.😔

I have some wonderful memories of holidays there staying in the essex countryside and swimming on the beautiful beaches there. If it was that good then, it can be again. It's a crime that's it's been allowed to degenerate so badly, time to turn it around .
Yeah but the council have no money. As the area becomes more derelict, more people move out. This causes businesses to shut down and the local economy shrinks. With people paying less tax, the council have no funds to fix anything. The only way to fix it is for an investment in industry there, but the lowland climate makes it a far from optimal place to invest in. Use your brain and don't just blame the first people that come to mind. 😂
Our first family holidays just after the war…..We looked on it as heaven. Great beaches, gun emplacements, ice cream was delivered to I think the hotel was called Morocco. One day we went in the grocers . The shop lady said. Go. Home tell your Mum we have a delivery of treacle. Bring any container……..Rationing was still on.
The little backyards would be perfect for a doglover, instead of a soulless flat, with no yard at all. If it were safe from floods, it would be perfect for low income single people and retired, downsized couples. First home buyers. The big problem to deal with, tho, is the flood problems - and that looks worse, for the futire.
@@georgielancaster1356 They dealt with the flooding problems down in Dawlish, by the railway line. They could do something similar around Jaywick. Part of the problem is that impoverished areas tend to get less funding, so the question becomes "why waste money on that **ithole, Jaywick?"

Wow that's a blast from the past , the Gentleman who used to run Dots the Newsagents , My Nan an Grandad bought a bungalow in Lavender Walk , Probably around 1980 , me my brother and sister would enjoy our summer holidays in sunny Jaywick, Far from the hustle an bustle of London, many a happy day , was spent playing on the beach , or just walking around the quaint well kept streets, or into the Elderado amusements, But it was Dots I remember with great fondness, To a young child , it was like a treasure trove , sweets , inflatables , toys , and an assortment of seaside gifts to buy for loved ones , Just found out watching the video, the proprietors name was William , Do hope you an your family are well Sir , I still visit Jaywick from time to time , sadly it's a far cry , from how I remember it , The quaintness, replaced by an uninviting deprived area, buildings that once stood , being the pride of their owners , an the envy of many a day tripper , now stand dilapidated an beyond repair , An one can take pity , on the poor souls that occupy these shells of yesteryear, Definitely time for regeneration, let future Generations enjoy Jaywick Sands ,

Why did it deteriorate so badly? it needs bringing up like Margate but it's not ever going to have a new Taste Gallery built there so what can be done? Massive renewal or clearance seems to be the only answer but the Tories won't do it. Their empty promises are just a sop.

My partner has family near there and to be frank it is rundown but the people there are really nice and there is a community there with people who uphold values, where in London you would be hard to find those values and community. I personally live in London and have love hate feel about it, London is a buzzing place on the flip side it's ridiculously expensive and people here can be in a bubble and detached.

I remember my friend,s elder sister being brought home cos she had got a bit too merry. It,s a great shame that it has deteriorated.It would be good if it could be regenerated for holidays at home.
The fly tipping and rubbish everywhere is down to the residents and it’s been like that for many years. Why should the local council spend millions regenerating the town only for the locals to do it again. A friend of mine drove through it once and said it’s not a place you want to stop for very long in.
Blackpool, Jaywick and most UK seaside towns have gone to rack and ruin. EasyJet and the Costa Del Sunburn have seen to that. Bits of North Yorkshire and bits of Cornwall still have thriving seaside economies but otherwise they’re all dead.
Romano, No the UK overall is one of Europe's wealthiest countries. There are pockets of deprivation in Northern England, the central belt of Scotland and the Welsh Valleys. These are all areas where heavy industry was located, but most of it has gone now.
Jaywick used to be a great family holiday , all day on the beach shallow sea for the kids , Clacton pier , no long haul flights or pollution , we had many happy holidays there in the early 70s , it was also a very safe place for kids

Residents have been offered by the council rehousing whilst they repair work can be carried out. Majority refused to leave so what can you do?
Families should take their kids here and if in future if they misbehave they can threaten a holiday there!

I spent a lovely week's holiday in Jaywick back in the 50s, with 8 members of my family, we had a great time. Pity to see it has declined so.
London is but 80 miles away . I imagine lots of Londoners could afford second homes in Jaywick
