I swear the drink the two thugs offered Daxter was poison due to the skull and crossbones on a red bottle, and Daxter competely threw it out shortly after the first thug poured it, almost drank the second helping before we got to see jak, and he threw his cup down when Jak interrupted his story. I always thought Daxter was literally a drink away from death in that opening cutscene.
Thats exactly what that is. This intro is packed with funny stuff like this just like how the story he is telling and the visuals make it seen like it was a flashback when it's fact happening at the same time.
Added this song to my workout playlist cause I liked the sound of it. Listened to it through and stopped mid work out with a "I've heard this but where?". That pause and the guitar riff sold it to me. My god this game was so under appreciated. The Jak days were my favorite days
My story is something in that sense... it was 2015, QOTSA were attending to Rock in Rio, the intro song for the band was this one. And I was like "I've heard this somewhere else before..." and then memories hit me like a truck. As the song went on, I was there with wide opened smile saying "IT'S JAK X RACING INTROOO!"
Funny thing is, either Andy Gavin or Jason Rubin said that Jak was designed not to talk initially so players wouldn't hate him but Daxter was supposed to talk so the player would hate him.
I loved this game. I was lucky enough as a kid to have Jak and Daxter 1, 2, 3 and Jak X growing up. Still do. I definately gotta set up the ol' playstation 2 and play it again sometime.

Jak and daxter anything will always love in my heart those games were the epitome of gaming to me naughty dog did everything right with the games and made something memorable that hadn't been outdone even today ps2 era was the era where games came out complete none of this have to update bullshit we have now
I can't believe that I learned about such a wonderful band through watching a playthrough of a game about a Tails Gets Trolled extra and his furry slave going on a vehicular murder spree in Fritz Lang's Metropolis.... But I'm not complaining.
I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't get a Samos voice-over in this intro like we did in previous Jak games, but then again, I'm not sure how Samos would turn a story about racing and demolition into something profound lol.
If you actually watch the Commentary for the Intro, I believe it was the Animator (or one of the Animators at least, the one who did the Intro) put it in as a Place Holder and to set the tone of the scene, but he and everyone else loved it so much that they licenced the QOTSA Songs and kept them in for the full game 👍
Fun fact about this game that was recently discovered and shown off on Jak and Daxter youtuber's page, Luminar Light, the entire intro cutscene was not intended to be prerendered, but done in engine as you can actually load up this area in an emulator and explore it since it was left in the final build of the game and they have a whole video on that over on their channel.
