I just fixed my Samsung Syncmaster 2493hm with the steps you presented. I had the exact problem you had. I bought the exact part that was the blown capacitor. I found the 2200 m and 25 volt instead of 10 volt. The detail about the voltage and the Microfarad was important since the original had the 10 volt it did not matter to have the 25 volt as long as the microfarad was respected. (you scored high there). Thank you for your video/presentation that was so clear. That's how we are supposed to show our humanity and make the world a better place to live. Some people with knowledge and good pay are spending time to find how to hurt people by taking more from the poor. You made me save $$$. I paid only $ 5.05 for the capacitor at fry's electronic. The monitor is working wonderfully well. I'm very happy. God bless you.
I did a quick google search before I opened up my monitor just to make sure I don't break anything opening it up and it turns out it was the exact same capacitor in my own monitor that needed to be replaced. Thanks a lot for this video, couldn't have been more helpful.
Followed your vid and found out that my monitor had the exact same problem. Replaced the cap with a 25V (that's all I had) and got it working. Thanks for the detailed video!
Same error, same problem. Did this and fixed the monitor. Thank you very much! The first symptoms were the monitor had problems startting up (blinked very fast and you could see it had no "energy" to start). After a week or two it didn't start up anymore. Now it's fixed!
I just did this repair as described in the video. The capacitor didn't look faulty at all but I replaced it anyway...and now I have a working monitor for a $1 repair. Thanks for posting.
Great stuff. Same problem here. Ordered a soldering iron for £10 and a new capacitor for 84p. Turns out I'm crap at soldering, but I still managed to fix it! Thanks so much.
Picked up a 2492HM at my local thrift store for 39$. Of course- not working. Used your video, replaced same cap, up and running. Thank you for the info!! (Toughest part - taking off the bezel...)
Great stuff... bought a non-functioning Samsung LCD at the local flea market thinking I could probably fix it, but this makes it way easier than I even thought. Thanks.
This repair is easier than it looks in the video. The case/shell comes apart easily. unplugging the clips/connectors is easy. The soldering is pretty simple. And when I was done it fired right up. The hardest part was finding the HDMI cable I used to use to connect it up. This repair video is fantastic. (I didn't even listen to the sound.)
Thanks for the great video. My 2493HM is working again!!! Mine was the exact same capacitor the 2200uF. I replaced it and the monitor is working fine now. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Your video was killer. The only thing I did different was I cut the tape instead of peeling it off from the hold down bracket. Cutting it wear the bracket ends on either side with a razor knife kept the tape in tact and in place.
Yes !!! We did it 50 minutes time. And indeed for just 1 euro 30 !!! You have been a great help!! Problem leaking ELCO. Now popped one in with just a higher voltage :-)
Thanks so much for this video! Turns out I had exactly the same problem as the monitor you demonstrated on - that same 2200uf capacitor was bulged. After desoldering it and cramming an axial-lead capacitor in its place (radio shack didn't have radial ones at 2200uf), it works!!
Man your video is great, i just saved my monitor!! Got a cap from an old broken psu (2200mf-16v) and its working just fine! Took me about 2 hours because i didnt have the proper tools-materials. THANKS AGAIN and keep up with your good work!
Big thanks for posting this video. I have two of these monitors that I run together in a dual monitor set-up and whilst they are a few years old now I was well hacked off when both of them died within 1 month of each other. Just repaired the first one (exact same blown cap 2200uf 10v) and having never tackled a monitor repair before your video was very helpful. Going to have a bash at the other one in the next few days, hopefully that repair will go as well as the first.
many thanks for the video. I ordered new capacitors, even though I couldn't see a blown one, followed the video to replace them and now the monitor is working! Thanks again. (I'm in mourning for the nice shiny new monitor that I would have bought to replace this one!)
Great video, had the same problem monitor wouldn't power up. Have Samsnug SyncMaster 931B that l had for 9 years great picture never a problem until a couple days ago wouldin't booting up but had sound. Toke it apart went to the power supply and as with you blown capacitor (puffed up). Did a trip to Radio Shack and got 1000uf 36v , it called for 1000uf 16v but all they had was a 36volt just a little bigger can. in less then 3 hours thats with the trip to RS it's up and running. Thank you, and You Tube too, Saved some bucks.
Thanks for creating the video, I had an identical problem (same capacitor) and fixed it with a kit from lcdalternatives and your advice. A great cheap fix.
Wow, thanks for the simple guide LOL! Found this is the trash at my work and managed to get my hands on it. Followed this guide and had the same exact capacitor which was bulged and after replacing, boom! Up and running like new no problems ^.^ Now to keep or sell for $300 XP You are the man!
Thanks for the video! I just disassembled the monitor and I'm gonna take the power supply board to my friend tomorrow to see if we can fix it by changing the uf cap(s). I noticed straight away that at least one was broken so I'm hoping it'll fix it.
Very nice walk threw with how to take apart the monitor. I pulled the boards out but I couldn't find any bulging capacitors. The issue I'm having is that the Monitor does turn on. The blue light comes on. But the screen stays Black Nothing I've tried seems to work. I've got another monitor hooked up I'm borrowing at the moment. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
I also managed to fix my 2493HM screen, using a 25V 2200uF capacitor. Unfortunately, I believe i broke my lcd screen during the repair.. :-( Thanks a lot for the guide though, very informative! Also, the reply from Jerzy is really useful --> "LCD Slave cable you squeeze those clips ;-) "
Thank you very much for this video. It is exact the same capacitor that's blown up. Seems to be a common problem for this monitor. I still have to replace it, but I'm sure it will work again then.
Dude I just want to say, thank you for saving me the trouble of giving this monitor (same one) to some chinese dude for free who would of done what you did and ripped me off (or just me ripping myself off). I manned up and followed your directions and now I am typing this while using the same monitor. THANK YOU GOD THANK YOU CAL22583 YOU SAVED MY MONITORS FUCKING LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good job man
Thanks a lot man you helped me well, as i had no idea to what to do and i know that will cost a prety much to repair it by a technician so you saved me thank you soooo much
Hello, great video. Saves a lot of money :-) But, the capacitor in your video is a lot higher then the available space after remounting the board. Did you replace it before remounting the power board and closing the monitor ?
Excellent video!!! But i want to ask you, this apply to the case that monitor has slow start and until starts the blue led blinking really quickly? I mean this is the preliminary stage before stop working at all? If i change the capacitor or blow the power supply i can save my monitor?
No luck with mine. Mine would not power on, and I did not see a busted capacitor. There seemed to be a small rattle on the second board within that big detachable block. Another site recommended replacing all capacitors as broken ones may not be seen, but at this point, i dont think I am going to get it fixed.
the guy in my local electro shop knows about these faulty samsung power supplies. He didn't have the 2200µf 10V and gave me a 2200µf 6.3V and said i didn't have to worry about the difference. For now he is right, it's working for about an hour
Non-bulged capacitor might be bad too... you need to measure the output from the PSU using osciloscope... the output must not be waved... If it is, you need to measure every part of the PSU, just google "Switching power supply block diagram" and measure each step by step... BUT... be safe, do not touch ANYTHING conductive while powered on... also watch out nasty high voltage capacitors, they might retain charge even with PSU powered off...
With the power supply broken did the blue light even come on? Mine the blue light blinks but the monitor is unresponsive to the power button. Thanks for the video.
I love your video. I have question... I have this same monitor, but it's have a different issue. The monitor powers up, but the display eventually goes black (menu and input options don't display either). All the caps look good, there was a little dust though. What do you think causes the display to go totally black?
Informative video, I had the screen go black off and on for the last week. Without opening the back I blew it out with compressed air. Seems to be working OK for now.
I'd had this exact monitor repaired a few years ago. It's just faulted again (won't turn on, flashing blue light) so I stripped it down and it turns out that capacitor you replaced is the same one that they swapped out. So i've ordered a new pack of them for £2.50, hopefully should sort it!
Hah, well, if you're going to be bad, you might as well be consistently bad, right Samsung? Just opened up my 2493HM, and guess which capacitor was bulging? Thanks a lot for this video man.
Hi TheElemynt, did you manage to fix your Samsung screen? I had problem similar to the one in the video, changed capacitor, now I have problem similar to yours. Blue LED comes on, but the screen remains blank : (. Any ideas? Thanks
I actually had a question, it seems that with the Panasonic 2200uF 10V 105℃ capacitor that I installed my monitor still makes a popping noise, and it didn't turn on today after work until after it made the pop noise once. What do you think would make it cause that still?. Should I try a different capacitor?.
@cal22583 I have the samsung syncmaster 2693 hm and it started to flicker for a long time before it would stop flickering and then it started to not start up at all until apx 5 minutes then apx 20 minutes then apx 30 minutes before it started to flicker and today it stopped starting up altogether ... I noticed that you had a puffed and leaking cap that was your problem in this video and I was wondering if you ever tried to wait to see if it would power up with time? also would the 2200uf 10 volt work in my 26 inch model as it did in your 24 inch model? thanks in advance and mostly thanks for making this awesome helpful video.
Hi a little on the late side but, I have a SyncMaster 2493HM with a flashing blue power led only with no picture, and I see no bulged or leaking capacitors, I also checked the backside of the print for any cracks in the soldering..There are no issues of that either? Can you advise me what to do? Thanks in advance!
i have this monitor and its been sitting here for over a year...i want to try what you do here but i dont know anything about the sodering? part... what do i need to know.
If the power board is good should you be getting voltage of the 24V leads to the inverter and to the 5.3 leads on the other side ? Where the ribbon connectors connect to this board ?
Cool stuff, I wonder if it would fix mine, not sure if it's the same culprit. Mine is almost same version, SyncMaster 2494HM 24" (or 25" not sure), it actually turns on, for about 2 seconds, very dark screen light intensity, then shuts down, I can repeat this as many times as I like by turning on and off.
If the power board is good should you be getting voltage of the 24V leads to the inverter and to the 5.3 leads on the other side ? Where the ribbon connectors connect to this board ? Or even when they are disconnected ?
@cristoretornebiblia Hey man! Not a lot, been pretty busy at work. I'll be posting a side by side comparison of the HTC EVO 4G and the EVO 3D. Just need to finish editing it.
4:47 You don't just pry it out. The clips on the side need to be squeezed together then it will unplug. If you just rip it out, as shown in the video, you will damage the retaining clips. If that signal cable isn't held in tight, the monitor will cycle through test patterns. If you have that problem after performing repairs, you've likely damaged the connector and the cable isn't seating correctly.
Is it not a mistake to mount an 16v rated komponent ? it´s made for 16v witch result in lower voltage (witch is fine) an higher amps than it is rated for.. (witch is less than optimal) Lower voltage systems use thicker gauge wires to handle the higher current (HiFi in cars use very thick wires in a 12v DC) system (but even SAMSUNG cant seem to find the correct caps) Planned Obsolescence
Hey cal, when you say "it does not power on", does that mean that you get no light in the blue power-LED? My monitor does not react when I press the power-on button. The blue LED blinks slightly when unpluggin the power cord. Do you think my issue is the same as yours?
Same here. My monitor wont start, but the blue LED is blinking. Tried everything with no success yet. I just finished opening the monitor exactly as describe in the video. The 2200uf cap is bulge. Will try to find a new cap and replacing it. I'll let you know if it works.
Hello again, Just changed the capacitor and the monitor is working. Before the repair, the blue LED was flashing and no image. Juste to let you know that for 2,50$ it is worth it.
Alright, I FINALLY got around to take the monitor apart and yes, the capasitor is indeed in need of a replacement. See the pictures here: goo.gl/photos/vU47RowMRAfM3VaDA I'll go ahead and get a replacement :)

My syncmaster gradually got worse powering up until it simply just didn't. I just took it apart, found same leaking cap. Thanks man, great video

Quick Update - just followed the instructions, and monitor is working like a treat, all for £2.50 and a bit of my time. Really appreciate it :-)
My monitor had the exact same broken capacitor, thanks so much for posting this guide. Just saved myself £200!
Thanks for the great video. My 2493HM is working again!!! Mine was the exact same capacitor the 2200uF. I replaced it and the monitor is working fine now. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Your video was killer. sorry, i can't remember capacitor's voltage but i do remember it being a little bit greater voltage then the one that blew up.
Yes !!! We did it 50 minutes time. And indeed for just 1 euro 30 !!! You have been a great help!! Problem leaking ELCO. Now popped one in with just a higher voltage :-)

Thank you! You saved my monitor. I would not have had the confidence to take it apart myself without this video.
Thanks for the Video, I took the monitor apart without the video, but now I know it is definitley worth exchanging the capacitor.
Mine stopped working just a few minutes ago after ~ 9 years of use. Glad that I found the video.
I'll be damned...I just followed your instructions and looked at mine and the same capacitor is leaking on mine! Thank you for posting this.
Exact same cap blown...
25V 2200 uf, 105° replacement cap is working for me.
Just to confirm - going up in volts is no problem.
Thanks for the video!
Man your video is great, i just saved my monitor!! Got a cap from an old broken psu (2200mf-16v) and its working just fine! Took me about 2 hours because i didnt have the proper tools-materials. THANKS AGAIN and keep up with your good work!

Dude. I was swearing at this monitor for 2 months now. Fixed in 20 mins as I had proper cap. Thanks...
EsamoKoram throw back when mine was busted
You are amazing! Thanks to your video tutorial I fixed my broken 2493HM in about 30 minutes! Thank you so much again!
Great video, had the same problem monitor wouldn't power up. Awesome video. Helped me a lot. Yesterday I replaced the capacitors on my LCD and it works now. Thank you very much!
Thanks for creating the video, I had an identical problem (same capacitor) and fixed it with a kit from lcdalternatives and your advice. A great cheap fix.
Great video! I had a blinking blue power light and no video. When I opened the monitor I had the same blown capacitor. Thanks for the helpful video.
Very helpful video. My monitor had exactly the same problem and now its working again :)

Thanks bud, just went and bought the 2200uf 25v cap which cost like R3:50 and voala! you saved me! Awesome!
Thanks for this video! I fixed my monitor within an hour with the 2200uF 10v cap.
Thanks for the video! I just disassembled the monitor and I'm gonna take the power supply board to my friend tomorrow to see if we can fix it by changing the uf cap(s). I noticed straight away that at least one was broken so I'm hoping it'll fix it.
Exactly the same capacitor that went bad on mine. Thanks for posting the video. $2 fix vs. $200 monitor.
Did the fix, went to a local TV repair shop for the resistor. Thanks
Very nice walk threw with how to take apart the monitor. I pulled the boards out but I couldn't find any bulging capacitors. The issue I'm having is that the Monitor does turn on. Looking at the video again on the now repaired monitor. Thanks this easy fix really saved my day :-)
Thank you very much for this video.
THANK YOU GOD THANK YOU CAL22583 YOU SAVED MY MONITORS FUCKING LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good job man
Thanks! Repaced the capacitor. The LCD now powers on which is great, but the screen is white (light gray). Any ideas where to look next?
Thanks a lot man you helped me well, as i had no idea to what to do and i know that will cost a prety much to repair it by a technician so you saved me thank you soooo much
Glad the video helped... good luck with the repair.
Hello, great video. Saves a lot of money :-) But, the capacitor in your video is a lot higher then the available space after remounting the board. Did you replace it before remounting the power board and closing the monitor ?

thanks for the video.

Informative video, I had the screen go black off and on for the last week. Without opening the back I blew it out with compressed air. Seems to be working OK for now.
Perfect description, tanks.
NB I used 3300uF 40volt 105deg, and it works :)
Just fixed my monitor for $2, thanks so much for this tutorial :) I had the exact same capacitor that was broken.

Hello, first of all, great vid!
Im just wondering if it is okey to go down on the uf?
Because i only have a 1000uf 10v cap.
Thanks for an informative video, I have same problem, so now I just have to found a replacement here in DK.
thank you so much!!! seriously saved me over $300 for this.
Hah, well, if you're going to be bad, you might as well be consistently bad, right Samsung? Just opened up my 2493HM, and guess which capacitor was bulging? Thanks a lot for this video man.

thanks in advance and mostly thanks for making this awesome helpful video.
Thanks, you save me lot's of time and money... Great video...
Thanks for the video. I had exactly the same issue with the same monitor and was able to fix it myself!
Love it. Looks simple. I'm going to give it a try
What is the extra yellow cable ? Is that the ground ? Wen I opened the tv it was already ripped out
i have this monitor and its been sitting here for over a year...i want to try what you do here but i dont know anything about the sodering? part... what do i need to know.
If the power board is good should you be getting voltage of the 24V leads to the inverter and to the 5.3 leads on the other side ? Where the ribbon connectors connect to this board ?
Great, it works and that for € 0.50. Thank you very much.
Exact same problem. Wonderful. Fixed it.
How much does a new power supply cost? where can i buy one?
Cool stuff, I wonder if it would fix mine, not sure if it's the same culprit. Mine is almost same version, SyncMaster 2494HM 24" (or 25" not sure), it actually turns on, for about 2 seconds, very dark screen light intensity, then shuts down, I can repeat this as many times as I like by turning on and off.
Anyone know what the cable is called at 4:40? I need a replacement. :(
That worked for me too ! Thank you.

hey on mine the blue light come on but the screen wont .... what do you think it is ?

Lower voltage systems use thicker gauge wires to handle the higher current (HiFi in cars use very thick wires in a 12v DC) system (but even SAMSUNG cant seem to find the correct caps)
Planned Obsolescence
Thanks for all! I got my monitor working :-D
would u think a 1000uf 35v whould work
I had a spare 2200uf 24volt... replaced the faulty one and voila... awesome stuff... I guess I'll have to wait to upgrade my monitor now...:-(
great video, very helpful, thanks very much...
This video saved my screen.
It has worked for me !!! thanks thanks thanks
+Réal Bourbonnière Thanks. I still have the monitor lying around, so I guess I'll just give it a shot :)
Alright, I FINALLY got around to take the monitor apart and yes, the capasitor is indeed in need of a replacement. See the pictures here:

I have the same problem pls help do a video on how to fix that
would 35volts work if it is 2200uf?
