$40 Watchmaker Video Microscope Setup With Recording - Is It Good Enough?

- I wanted an alternative to a $2000+ microscope setup for not only viewing my work but recording video. I explored several options and came up with this under $40 otoscope which works perfectly for my needs to inspect and work on my watches in great enough detail to oil the jewels, inspect screw threads, pinions, gear teeth, etc. While of course it doesn't replace a real watchmakers microscope setup, it's almost free compared to the overall cost and is more than enough for me as a pure hobbyist.

Watches is a very cool hobby. I love Casio and Seiko
the 1" focal distance is a little concerning, but other than that, it looks pretty cool. Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely genius 😎. I’m just getting into wanting to disassemble watches as a hobby. I wanted to find some thing low cost to start before I dove into a £1K device and I think you’ve shown me it. 🙏
Go for it!
This is amazing. THank you for sharing!
Genius! Adding to my Amazon list now
now that's a handy tool! Thanks Brian!!
You bet!
Nice, thank you! I need this for casual inspections of electronics, and from what I'm seeing, this solution would do pretty well, while allowing me to inspect "dark corners" of a computer build. The only drawback, is that the model you show at around 40$, is 720p. Personally, I'd need FHD (1080p), to better recognize corrosion on welded contacts, broken circuits, capacitor leaks etc.: using this casually or as a hobby doesn't mean that I'd settle for sub-par results and thus a less comfortable job (or a crappy analysis hence a crappy job in the end). I'll look up to see if there are FHD models, thanks again!
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I am also wanting to start messing around with watches, and have invested in some tools and an old movement to disassemble and reassembled.
I have been looking at something similar and wondered why nobody has done this, so thanks for this.
I was also wondering why you can't just use your phones camera and veiw it on a laptop.
This allows plenty of working room beneath the camera.
I have a fairly modern Samsung and the camera is fantastic.
It would just require a tripod for the phone.
The level of magnification isn’t even close, when you need to see detail the size of a hair.
@@COGuyStuff OK, thanks for letting me know.
Hoping these watch videos continue
They are! The next one is a project...it'll take me a while longer to finish!
Great idea!
Great heads up. 😎
None available now. Jeeeeez. Great idea
Hmm, you’ve not had any issues with the distance? Seems awfully close and a “proper” microscope would be working at about 8”. But that is such an affordable price!!
Oh it definitely doesn’t replace a real microscope, but it’s almost free in comparison.
