Love the message-get out and have fun. I still use my 1998 Gary Fisher on occassion for commuting to work-it's the only bike I have with a rack, and I love panniers for carrying things. It smooths out the bumpy, paved Clear Creet Trail, which can be a bit rough on the road bike. It's more than capable for a ride up Waterton Canyon, a well-maintained, hard pack gravel road, but I'm not going to take it to the Valmont bike park in Boulder!

So I saw the comments on one of your previous videos that likely sparked this video. While it’s easy for me just to say “just ride what you want and who cares what people think”. I really believe it. It’s easy to get caught up in upgraditis and it’s also easy for armchair experts to give their opinion. Of course having a popular TH-cam channel exposes the decisions you make on what you ride, how you ride and so on. But at the end of the day, it’s only an opinion and remembering why you started the channel and why you started mtb is what really matters. Keep being “you”because that’s why people come back to watch:)

I have had my eyes on the remedy, every time i was at the trekstore they always tried to steer me towards the fuel EX, but i really liked the look and feel of the remedy. I dont want big 29" wheels. i have 27.5 on my roscoe 2021 and i`m perfecly happy with those. The argument is "you need to pedal to much" but no.. i really dont, dont mind it dont care. its nothing, i want 27.5 i like it.
Really like you stating the thing thats happening, that ppl are always trying to talk you out of what your original plan was. Stick with it!

Horses for courses. My wife wants me to rebuild her 2018 Trek Remedy 8 frame because she prefers it to my old 2018 Nukeproof Mega Frame. What she loves is the shorter reach on the Rememdy in the 19.5" frame. She can ride my Trek Rail in L but it's at about the limit of her reach, whereas I love my bikes long due to the confidence and weight distribution it brings on steep tech. You can still be ridiculously playful on a long bike, and my Nukeproof giga is testament to that.
The plan is to turn it into a mullet instead, since she's gotten used to 29" wheels at our rooty and chundery steeps. The only thing she hated about the remedy was the OG Rockshox deluxe OCLV rear shock where the rebound damping as so off for the required sag. Remedied (excuse the pun) with a Cane Creek coil. Bugger on the climbs but a rapid tech descending machine.
Personally, I hated the remedy. Once you're used to long bikes (I'm 5'9 with gangly arms and a 30" inseam), I can't ride anyting with less than 470mm reach. The remedy is too skittish for me, but suits her to a T (she's also 5'9" but needs a shorter reach)

If you have a Remedy DO NOT get rid of it. It is so hard to find a modern fullsuspension bike with the geometry and handling of the Remedy. Every other modern bike has a completely different ride feel tuned for racing and not getting off the ground like the Remedy does. I currently have 10 bikes, and the Remedy is the fastest rolling and highest jumping and most poppy bike out of them, as well as the many many bikes I've had in the past. I am never getting rid of my Remedy.
A friend of mine sold his and misses it now.
Dont get me wrong, I am not saying it is the best bike ever made (check the WA1 Arrival...); I am just saying the Remedy is in a dying class of fun-oriented bikes, while everything else that is coming out is too race serious.

If you purchase a $ 3000.00 mountain bike to please or impress other people and not yourself , you already lost the game ..... of course I tested several bikes , specially Treks and Giants ( I have a good relationship with the store ) and at the end , the Giant Trance 27.5 aluminum was the one that felt right under my body and weight, the other bikes are perfect and beautiful ( Yes ) but like women, it is very hard or impossible to say why you fell for that ONE .

Matty this is exactly why so many of us f&&c with you, because it is about feel. What sense does it make to babble on about specs, carbon parts that cost so much, brands, when you're not happy riding it??There's NO point is all that garbage, that we need new bikes, and all that is a scam. That's exactly why newer shops and smaller shops because so great, because they are not just there to push what they want on the riders. In other words, I know if you had a shop, you would see no need in selling a $6000 bike on someone who will never go past fire roads and paved trails on a bike. You might not be interested in this, yet I bet plenty of us want people like YOU toa take over and clean up this mess of an industry. WE have more riders and trails then ever in history, yet we are still overpricing bikes. The industry needs VOLUME to the point that MOST people ride, and adjust the pricing as needed. For example, if you got such a capable bike like the Remedy for $2700, then why isn't that the standard anyway? That bike is going the same places as $8000 bikes and making it work....PERIOD...The fact is, most of that stuff that is between the $3000 and $9000 bikes just make them more complex and expensive to maintain..So you got the Remedy for $2700, so let's say you keep it 10 years. With some work you will have to do ,you might spend around $5000- on the high end and that's just time/wear of parts,etc...In contrast, you buy a $8000 bike and still have to maintain it for another $5000??? Why do that???

I love it Matty! I started off with a hardtail with the rubber V brakes about 5 years ago, during the pandemic started biking more with nothing else to do and my friends all had $2-5,000 bikes. I didn't and still don't make a ton of money with my job. But I started loving it more and riding more so I bought a Polygon Sisku D7 when it was impossible. That bike kicked ass for $1,700 and looked great and I was either leaving my buddies in the dust or right behind the moee advanced crew. I had that for about a year although it was an awesome duel suspension bike, the 120 travel wasn't enough and I was hitting bigger features and going faster. So I sold it for $1,300 to wash some of the cost and got the Marin Alpine Trail 7 for $3,000 (now $2,400). What a bike that is!!! About $800 or so in upgrades and it's all I'm gona need for a while. I love this bike so much. It's my happy place being on that thing and on the trails. Feel like I can relate to your channel so much. A lot of my friends stopped riding in the winter and i bought some cold weather gear and kept at it biking all winter in Albuquerque so i can work on my tech skills and stay in good shape and not have to start over again in spring. Feels so good I can put on 18-22 miles in a ride now. Ill shut up now, lol. I love biking so much I could go on forever. Keep shredding my friend and keep the channel going!!

This is how everyone should be when finding the right bike for themselves. Don’t try to fit in because “everyone” is riding slack and long enduro bikes. Get it for your personal riding style, great advice. Glad your not one of the bazillion “upgrade” TH-camrs, getting a bike is more a long term investment, keep it for years.

Solid video. I agree with you. I was hesitating on going into a 27.5 bike. I had the roscoe, went to a Slash 8 the past few years. Everyone swears by the 29ers. I grabbed the Revel Rail 27 on a 35% off deal. I absolutely love it. So much more fun to ride. 27.5 is underrated. Especially for us shorter folks.

Damn right. 100% agree. Smart buy and a great attitude on biking. Old bikes are easy to keep updated as parts wear out. An old bike you can beat up and not give a damn. Just ride it hard. Coming from a person who bought new Toyota truck in 1986 and has been my only daily for 37 years and 482,000 miles. Love driving it every time I get behind the wheel.

I just sold my Remedy 9.8 for a steal to a local kid after upgrading. The Remedy was fun to ride, but to me it felt a bit short in the reach department (despite sizing up) and the seat tube was way too high. Other than those complaints it was so fun to ride.

Put a 160mm 29 in the front of that… it is so good. You may love a 35mm stem as well. Good purchase… and you can make it more “downhill enduro” if you want with the 29 wheel in the front. It makes the wheelbase longer by 15mm if you go 29 and you are still short wheelbase by todays standards. You are in a good place mentally too.. good stuff! Enjoy!

Was looking for this, I'm just average height and I love the roll over of 29s but I don't feel in control of the bike, like I'm just flopping over from side to side to turn on a penny farthing, and I missed how even though it was youth size I always felt like I could slice anywhere I wanted on my old 26 3700. So I wanted to try a mulletable bike next

I almost agree full heartedly. The only thing you said, that triggered me somehow and you went against your own words: If you go to a bikepark, I gotta have a full sus.
Well, no! Ride what you like and is burly enough to handle, what you are riding. I.e. I am using an Orbea Laufey, a trail hardtail, in a bikepark, since it is the only bike I own and the next one will be a Kona Honzo ESD frame: An Enduro Hardtail 😊
Nice video. I like following you. I wonder how all those years went by so quickly

      @MattyActive  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yea I agree, I noticed that also and disagree with myself lol. You don’t need a full suspension for bike park but it’s definitely more comfortable

This is exactly what I needed. I’ve been looking at the trek remedy. Went into a local store and they were kind of talking me away from the remedy and more towards fuel ex. I’ve been debating it hard. But definitely feel like full stock, the remedy seems my kind of thing. Coming from a hard tail and bmx childhood. I want something more playful. Thanks for that man!

@@treyton6892 I got the remedy! And am loving it. If they made the fuel ex a little shorter and lighter in future models than maybe I’d be inclined to switch. But I’m happy I went with the remedy

I am riding the remedy 8 (my 19 and now my22) for years now and love that thing. It climbs very well and is super playful. Also on the downhills it performs well. I havent tried a 29er but maybe i will in the next years. The remedy is the perfect do it all bike. My previous one got stolen and i bought the last modelyear anyways instead of switching to the fuel ex or slash.

Great bike , rides smooth th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L I added a bigger spring loaded seat to it . Takes a bit of adjusting cables to get brakes and shifting to perfect . I've owned quite a few bikes in the past that were absolutely uncomfortable to ride and they always ended up as garage wall decor . I'm not seeing that with this one. It's pretty light I've only ridden it a few miles but I like it . As for the pedals falling off in the other reviews , the pedal arms are aluminum along with the pedal studs look to be also . I would not overtighten them. I can see it would be very easy to overtighten them and strip the threads right off . All in all I think it's pretty good quality besides the aluminum pedal thing .
