Wait r u going to say u never played diablo 1 or 2 even later in life?! Ur one sick puppy! I just played fallout 1 n 2 like 3 months ago for the first time and I'll tell u this, it was soooo much fun! I'm shocked at how fun it was. So older games can still be a blast. I guess if ur from the past. I'm from the past. I traveled here through time. Very slow time.
Jack your videos are so entertaining.Could you make videos about call of duty series or other series too?ı want you to tell me your thoughts about those games with your funny editing.
Dude I relate to that “I think I get it, I think I’m done” moment so much now as I get older. You just get that brief idea of “I’d so much rather be doing/playing something else right now” and put down the game never to be picked up again.
Kind of how I feel about video games. You can achieve and accomplish things that are wholly engrossing and make you feel truly alive much moreso than gaming. Video games are great for passing time when I couldn't otherwise do ambitious things.
@@kasperv967 Same but level 71. It just hit me like a tonne of bricks that games are so shite now. Battlepasses and lootboxes I can't escape, unless I play some retro games. I feel like every game is wasting my time now. 360 era looking so tame compared to what we deal with now.

I've been thinking about this alot. I think that the "i think im done moment" you described happens to us when games put excessive treadmills for us. If you look at games like WoW classic, you play to 60 and then you dungeon to raid, once you do that youre done, and thats great you either roll another character or keep raiding with the boys. These games try too hard to make your progression endless.
wow classic at least gives you a minimum of 6ish straight days of leveling and low level dungeons if you are min/maxing plus maybe double that to complete all the raids

The solution is to have really strong voice actors who can carry the weight of otherwise faceless characters. It worked amazingly well for Armored Core 6, and it's practically a staple for Homeworld. Hell, the live-action FMV's of Command and Conquer fame are so good because of how much ham the actors put in the performance.

I don't think you need to see a character's face much to care about them. In Divinity Original Sin 2, you don't really see your companions up close but you'll feel connected to them purely through the excellent writing and voice acting. Their personalities shine even though the camera is far away and the characters are barely animated.
I think the issue here is that rewrites and getting the VAs back in would be substantially more expensive than adding additional details to existing content. DOS2 does have the advantage that its writing is substantially tighter and more cohesive than D4 in that matter, but Larian seems to be just hitting gamers with banger after banger so I'm not entirely unsurprised by that

I sunk in 100+hrs into D4. I have a lvl 100 pulverize druid (eternal) and lvl 100 twisting blades rogue (seasonal). The biggest unforgivable, frustrating problem I had with the game is you have to complete 80% of the game in order to unlock mounts. At that point, I've already unlocked most of the waypoints and riding my horse wasn't really that important anymore. You know when it would've been useful? early game.
Yep just play 20 hours up to Act 3 bro before you can use your horse! I lagged in every town because of loading people stashes. I hate this game so much. No sunk cost with me. $300 wasted. FU Blizzard and Bobby 🤣
What a great video. Diablo 2 was the biggest game of my "childhood." I started playing the first Diablo game around age 10 thanks to a free demo CD-ROM I got, and continued being fully addicted to Diablo series with D2 until I was in my early 20s. I even found tons of hours of great fun in Diablo 3 after several years of them working to get the game to a decent state. I wanted more than anything to love Diablo 4 as much as I love Path of Exile and it just didn't even come close. That reddit post paragraph really sums it up better than I ever could. Maybe in a couple years after they rework countless systems and add new content it will be worth giving a shot again. 😢
I hate how reviews assume d4 is supposed to be "good enough for casuals" as if it was a lesser form of gaming. Yes, unfortunately I have very limited time for playing, and guess what? I choose very closely where to invest that time. d4 was not good enough for me. The moment I hit paragon the game was immediately not worth my time.
I actually loved the VIgo moment, it was so brutal. This slime redeems himself in an iron maiden mech felt heavy. Also the druid who gets strung up on the tree with his blood draining down into the swamp. Game has so much potential from lighting to the heaviness of the environment. What you should try is the last epoch it gives you the flexibility of learning how to built your own character and the build diversity is insane as well as it has one of the best end games is amazing. Not only that but loot drops make you freak out with insane crafting
I had that same idea with extracting an aspect and then it updates that certain codex. Clears your stash while giving you progression with your character
As someone that grew up with 1, and got to play 2 and it’s expansion when my 9th grade math teacher instantly became a legend by giving his copy to me one day at school. I really feel for you knowing you missed out on the hay day of the series.
You made it way longer than I did. I played Diablo 3 every season since 2012 (just started S29 this weekend, even). I couldn't make it a month in Diablo 4 before being completely bored and not caring anymore.
Great summary of the state of the game. I had the same experience of seeing what was coming for the next 30 levels (I made it to about 70; that's all it took for me to get all of the aspects I needed on ancestral tier gear for my build) and immediately stopped playing. The game needs more to do at the endgame. The big draw of season 1, the "totally not legendary gems," aka Malignant Hearts, felt like a feature that should be in the base game, and weren't nearly exciting enough to keep playing just for those alone.
Thats our throw-away world. We went from products with shitty graphics but passion which created multiple decades of cult following to AAA cinematic over the top bullshit cashgrabs that nobody gives a shit about after 2 months. 💪
18:35 LOL I agree with that, make items more noticeably different, it's hard to compare things that have a wall of text and a bunch of negligible percentages.
I think Diablo 4 has way worse legendary loot than 3. In 3 I had a flail and shield combo that made my shield throw cost mama instead of be on a cool down and also bounce between enemies 5 times then ricochet. You ist don’t get those same unique builds in D4. I was never excited any time I picked up a Legendary.
10:19 As a Diablo 2 player, my jaw dropped when I first saw Andariel since the last time I saw her was when she encompassed a whopping 16 or so pixels. I was slightly terrified in all honesty.
I played the first Diablo game when I was in 8th grade. I was instantly hooked. The atmosphere, the voice acting, even the clunky elements of the game all seemed to add to its appeal. Diablo 2 rolled out and I bought it within a week of its release. If I thought I was hooked on D1, it was nothing compared to the fun I had with D2. To this day I still play the game (Now on D2R). Diablo 3 was a big let down for me, and Diablo 4 was an even bigger one. If you like Diablo games, and ARPGs and somehow haven't played Diablo 2, you owe it to yourself to check out D2R. Most (but not all) of the problems you cited here with D4 either don't exist, or are very minor in D2.
if you're looking for a game that does what Diablo did but better, try Guild Wars 2 it's horizontal progression, leveling, looking, and crafting are very similar to what Diablo 4 tried to do but much more refined and alive I suggest giving it a shot
Bro this is the first new video since I subscribed to you, excited to watch. Also I wanted to say your content is super high quality and super entertaining! Keep doing your thing man!
I agree with it all, I tried to love it like I did with D3. but just couldn't. The repetetive quests that where the same everywhere did almost at the start, jeez they fixed that problem when D3 seasons first started. I have gone back to Grim Dawn, which in my opinion is the best (if not grphically outdated) ARPG out there
With Diablo 4, there are so many design decisions that you know were made with ill intent. No gem tab and 'damage to slowed enemies' types of stats are good examples for it.
0 build slots in a game about making builds... Ye diablo 4 is polished but clearly poised to be milked and purposely gimped. It's become clear to me after some starfield how a game plays when fun is a the forefront and ongoing monetization is non existent.
What's funny is that when I was a teen, my mom was the same way about "demonic" stuff, etc. However, my dad had Diablo and got me the Diablo 2 Battle Chest and she didn't dare enter the PC domain. So I got to play WoW, Diablo, Starcraft, all that good stuff and she had precisely zero say. My Playstation games were a whole different story though...
This is what you get when souless publicly traded corporations develop games. Honestly, can you even imagine the mindset required for developers to sit around a table to discuss what's the maximun amount of time they can add to a teleport delay that players can TOLERATE, just so you can delay players from reaching the endgame, instead of discussing actual extra endgame content? I mean, the people who even dare think of those things are clearly not gamers, they are not making a game for gamers, they are just suits trying to squeeze another cashcow, that's why games like Diablo 4 are fundamentally different from games like Baldur's Gate 3, and I don't think it can be fixed, once a company goes public, once the original leadership is gone, the company is dead. Blizzard is just a husk, a zombie wearing the same skin it used to, the original Blizzard is dead, and it's never coming back. PS: Have you watched that infamous video they have released of their developers "playing" the game? Turn on the addon that allows you to see their dislikes, nobody liked to watch that, the developers didn't know a thing about their own game, they didn't know how any of it worked, how do you expect them to have good ideas to add to a game they know nothing about? Again, just suits looking for a stable job, anyone with less than 60 weekly hours in games shouldn't be working on these companies, and I don't think most of them have ever played any games for that long.
My favourite line (I assume because it sums up my feelings perfectly) is where he says he WANTED to be obsessed with the game. I have played since the original Diablo (as a young 14 yr old) and 4 was the first time that I was completely sucked in to the game
i did 2 things i didnt want to recently. I sold my copy of diablo 4 and ff 16. Sad, but i had to admit to myself i didnt like these products and to stop doing things i dont like
A lot of the disconnect from the story seems to be from not talking to the characters, imo You can talk to story npcs all the time to get more information about whats going on and their feelings, and there are some that are easily missable because you have to walk backward to talk to an NPC As for everything else, I pretty much agree. In an effort to stop players from getting too powerful and getting bored of the game they went the totally opposite route and now have to play catch-up just to make the game feel satisfying
Activision-Blizzard achieved exactly what they wanted, and that was to get you to buy the game. They didn't give a damn if you stopped playing it after two weeks. They never cared about making a good game that made the players happy.
Played Diablo with my dad at the ripe age of 12, it was good growing up in a catholic converted to hippie house. Barbarian: Beware foul demons and beasts Amazon: I hear foul creatures about
Most annoying thing was reading the affixes on dropped gear and trying to decide if its an upgrade or not. Repeat thousands of times and you may find a slight upgrade.
I remember browsing Memecenter almost a decade ago and seeing a handmade meme somebody made of the Grim Reaper showing up to collect their soul, and the guy just pointed to his computer which had the main menu screen of Diablo 2 on it. The Reaper was incensed and demanded that Diablo 2 give him that particular human's soul back as it belonged to him. That was my first encounter with Diablo, and the jist was that people were obsessed and addicted to this game on a crazy level. I'm not seeing any of that with D4, or any other Diablo things these days.
9:30 My issue with character portraits in a game where you can customize your guy is that you either have no character portrait for your custom character, or you have something ugly that doesn't match the rest of the art and that makes your character feel fake and disconnected.
I had the same moment in my playthrough. It's like you saw how they stripped everything down to just that formula. It's the leanest of beef and not in a good way.
I don't know, but the best game to grind in my opinion was monster hunter. Always a new monster, new variation of monster and so many armor and weapons types. Also easy to play for a short time (a battle lasts for 10 tp 30 min).
edit: kept playing... I was wrong - dude had something to say, just took a very long time telling, and that's OK Hopefully Jack didn't see my earlier comment, which wasn't fair as I didn't see enough. Got a new SUB... that's all I can do to make amends -sorry for saying you need to PUNCH UP your script - comedy is hard - this is informative and warm-hearted so TY. My main is only 64, so haven't dealt with much of the issues you found... if my bf didn't like the game would have dropped it. I made his toon, then taught him how to play it... he runs nightmares everyday and feels super powerful - I did that, as he soooo sucks at building/playing. Also Legion World Events are FUN... it's strangly nice seeing other people and burning down bosses together. I'm not sure what's up with the game, but running those I apparently can't die? not gonna test it, as I have 2 automatic and 1 button press shields covering me... but I seem to take no dmg - it's kind of weird and somehow makes me feel less lonely playing - particularly the whirling Barbarians - so badass - it's fun being around them - Sorc of the lightning sort, and I have nothing like that in my bag of tricks edit: Now you complaining about bag space - IT'S INSANE - you must run dungeouns over and over and over, yet 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through, you must clean out your storage? SERIOUSLY, not even enough space for one dungeoun run? edit more: have you ever played late at night - RUBBERBAND MAN... fun song long ago, but not FUN when it's you in D4. The servers CLAIM they're online, but NO... it's a cruel joke as they can't keep the game running, even just running about - it's unplayable. edit some more: Now I'm started - the dungeons are TOO LARGE, and you can't mount there - it's always run over there and collect SOMETHING to go back where you were - it's tedious and annoying. Maybe put teleport gateways - I don't wanna shlep back waisting time, but always MUST. Also, who hasn't burst out in frustration at finding a fork, NO, WORSE a 3 way split... after spending so much time - these dungeons SUCK!
I think the main reason Blizzard makes it hard to fill an inventory is the same reason that in D2R runes and gems dont stack. They make bots create multiple accounts and multibox with different profiles to be able to stack more runes and gems. This encourages people to buy more game keys and pay the base fee of whatever dollars to be able to store more items to sell on their virtual goods websites.
Part of why we have bad games like this are these sort of reviews. I hear so many of you guys saying "hey I love the story and the combat and the graphics and I played 100 hours BUT I dont like it. NO NO NO. The story is shit, the graphics are ugly washed out grays and the combat sucks. Lets call a spade a spade here. You can tell in three seconds you are in trouble when you are doing your little tiny lame magic missiles as a mage at lvl 1. You compare that to a monk in Diablo 3 with your cool triple strike combo at lvl one that had real impact and would send enemies flying.
D4 CC impressed me with body hair textures changed based off what face option. Black man facial structure makes its curlier, white man one slim hair photocles, asian man adds extra sheen to it. Lovely details.

i stopped at lvl 70, them BG3 saved my life
bro is handsome
Literally could not put it into words better myself, impeccable
0:40 wow I forgot about that game. Absolute nostalgia a blast thanks mate!
Most (but not all) of the problems you cited here with D4 either don't exist, or are very minor in D2.
if you're looking for a game that does what Diablo did but better, try Guild Wars 2
it's horizontal progression, leveling, looking, and crafting are very similar to what Diablo 4 tried to do but much more refined and alive I suggest giving it a shot
Bro this is the first new video since I subscribed to you, excited to watch. Also I wanted to say your content is super high quality and super entertaining! Keep doing your thing man!
The amount of flash bangs in this video is insane
The way you make your videos is one of my favorites on TH-cam. Great work
I agree with it all, I tried to love it like I did with D3. but just couldn't. The repetetive quests that where the same everywhere did almost at the start, jeez they fixed that problem when D3 seasons first started. I have gone back to Grim Dawn, which in my opinion is the best (if not grphically outdated) ARPG out there
Top notch production quality as always Jack. Great stuff!
Do they sell inventory space in the cash shop?
That’s why they made inventory so limited.
I have never played a diablo game, but you videos are just so magical that i cant not watch
Diablo 4 brought me the gifts of Darth Microtransaction and back to Asmongold TV. For that, We thank it.
Dude you’re one of the best gaming channels I’ve discovered recently. Great video, can’t wait to hear your thoughts on starfield!
6:50 song anyone please?
My Playstation games were a whole different story though...
the quality of your videos are getting to an amazing level keep going bro
I had that same moment of realization playing Destiny years ago. I haven’t gone back to mindless grinding since. Nice vid.
Love the fun outfits you always have in these videos
Again, just suits looking for a stable job, anyone with less than 60 weekly hours in games shouldn't be working on these companies, and I don't think most of them have ever played any games for that long.
just play grim dawn
I remember that christian "We're actually beating the Satan!" argument worked with one of my aunts and she pretty much convinced my mom haha
Jack, always top quality. You are in your own class and you deserve all that's is coming to you. I am one of your fans my guy
Tyty
That knife is perfect for gardening, I’m not kidding.
My favourite line (I assume because it sums up my feelings perfectly) is where he says he WANTED to be obsessed with the game.
I have played since the original Diablo (as a young 14 yr old) and 4 was the first time that I was completely sucked in to the game
remember. Blizz before release talked about "endless" char creation options. So now we have an "endless" 4 different hair settings.
the act man... i meant "acting like a baby" man... YIKES
Would you say that Diablo IV is better or worse than Lord of the Rings: The two towers on GameBoy Advance?
It's absolutely nuts how much new shit Diablo 3 tried off and changed drastically over time. We forget how massive that game was.
i did 2 things i didnt want to recently. I sold my copy of diablo 4 and ff 16. Sad, but i had to admit to myself i didnt like these products and to stop doing things i dont like
A lot of the disconnect from the story seems to be from not talking to the characters, imo
You can talk to story npcs all the time to get more information about whats going on and their feelings, and there are some that are easily missable because you have to walk backward to talk to an NPC
As for everything else, I pretty much agree.
Dude I was obsessed with that Lord of the Rings GBA game. I played it on my SP all day and night ha
Played Diablo with my dad at the ripe age of 12, it was good growing up in a catholic converted to hippie house.
Barbarian: Beware foul demons and beasts
Amazon: I hear foul creatures about
Most annoying thing was reading the affixes on dropped gear and trying to decide if its an upgrade or not.
I'll never not love a jack vid, they just bleed effort when you watch them, it's great
9:30 My issue with character portraits in a game where you can customize your guy is that you either have no character portrait for your custom character, or you have something ugly that doesn't match the rest of the art and that makes your character feel fake and disconnected.
Good to see world + Rise fans out there
I never understood how people could actually begin with playing Diablo..
edit: kept playing... I was wrong - dude had something to say, just took a very long time telling, and that's OK
Hopefully Jack didn't see my earlier comment, which wasn't fair as I didn't see enough.
I'm not sure what's up with the game, but running those I apparently can't die? not gonna test it, as I have 2 automatic and 1 button press shields covering me... but I seem to take no dmg - it's kind of weird and somehow makes me feel less lonely playing - particularly the whirling Barbarians - so badass - it's fun being around them - Sorc of the lightning sort, and I have nothing like that in my bag of tricks
edit: Now you complaining about bag space - IT'S INSANE - you must run dungeouns over and over and over, yet 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through, you must clean out your storage?
2:03 almost word for word how I got Doom past my mom.
5:24 nailed it, that's me. lol
I can’t last an hour of hell tide, I get sleepy, since all I’m doing is the same thing , over and over and over
Part of why we have bad games like this are these sort of reviews.
