Ive run a Peal white cream interior Model S P85 sunroof delete black 19" wheels from new, now its 125,000 uk miles. Rear drive unit replaced at 35,000 miles (slight noise, Tesla replaced under warranty) then battery at 75,000 miles (slight coolant leak from day 1 turns out a leaky 4 way valve, Freemont detected fault and replaced under warranty) at no time has the car ever let me down. Still love driving it and agree get a set of winter tyres its a 2.2 ton car it makes then work so well. The delete sunroof (black roof panel and cream Alcantera headlining was a good idea in uk theres no sun! ) and free supercharging for life.....thats genius. Superb quick car (the P versions have a much more powerful inverter that gives 0-60 in 4 seconds) and I spent £1,400 to have all 4 door handles upgraded to V2.5 the redesign that does not fail.
The MCU 2 upgrade should give a more modern interface and also show apps like Netflix TH-cam Spotify and apparently also make it faster. If I understood it correctly
Most informative Real review, so tired of all the TH-camr videos pretty much going over the same points video after video. This was more like my neighbor telling me all about his experiences with his Tesla. Thanks!
We have a 2015 85D Factory ordered in 2015 in the fam.. Only thing done and that has been needed is Pads and rotors last year (After 7yrs) Since then nothing else to date other then cabin filter. Have lifetime supercharging on it also. We have 2019 100D also purchased new and to date only thing that was major that needed doing was minor water leak making its way into the rear truck sill not actually into the truck. Other then that have done cabin filter on it also.. Have lifetime supercharging on that one also. Am expecting to have to pay for new drive motors at some point but not expecting to have to worry about that till they have 300 - 500 thousand miles on the clock and thats if at that time it will be needed. Drive motors have really improved over the years and am confident that from 2017 onwards drive motors should last the life of the vehicle... When it come to the battery again same thing should last the life of the vehicle with battery degradation of course ope the the years but which tapers off after a while so the degradation is slow after first 4 or 5 yrs... For example my 2019 S 4yrs in i have just under 9 percent degradation. Over the next 5 yrs i'll most likely see another 3 or 4 prcnt and then maybe 2percnt over the following 5 yrs after that... Tesla's are amazing vehicles... Would never go back to buying a gas powered vehicle especially now with Tesla and their Technology. No other manufacture really stand a chance. Buying a gas powered vehicle is like buying a horse and carriage at this point... Really makes no sense.
@trumbaron 14k mile? That's not bad. But since this is a ev car. Battery do degrade after 10 years. I would check the battery degrade level. Also, check for any small part malfunction like the door handle, window, wiper, try ALL the features and option in the Tesla. Also I recommend to upgrade the Screen

I was in the same boat as you in terms of buying a used 2015 Model S (85). It had high miles on it, but these cars depreciate like gas cars do, which is ridiculous because Teslas last longer. Becuase its a 2015 i also got free supercharging for LIFE. I've had a few maintenance issues since having it (door handles, etc) but otherwise its been great. So much so that I want to get another one. Funny story about the fart signal feature and I found this out the hard way. Make sure you turn this feature off when you're taking work related calls in your car while driving. 😅
Price depreciate mostly once out of warranty, as the 20k$ battery replacement is quite scary. And yes, some reach 500k miles, other however failed at any mileages, doesn't seem to correlate much

That is a good point I am not sure how that would work. When I bought mine I did all of the paperwork that I needed to send to TESLA while I was at the dealership and by the time I got to the first supercharger they had already changed ownership to me. That is the one disadvantage because TESLA couldn’t tell you anything about the car

What is the estimated range displayed on the dash ? And what is your real world range in long distance driving ? Just trying to see what range I should expect in the 2015 85 I'm seeing the local sales.
Well……….. a lot of it is determined by where you live. I live in Ohio and in the winter it really sucks up the power. With a full charge of 245 in the winter I’ll maybe get half of that when it is around freezing. When it is warmer out of the 245 I will probably get between 200 and 215 miles. Not bad for a 10-year-old car. I have also heard that when it’s really hot around 100° mileage is affected. I have taken a few long trips and never ran out of juice. The car does a good job of monitoring your power and sending you to the right charger.
I've got a 2015, agree with all your comments....disappointed you didn't detail the car before the video to really show off what a gorgeous looking car it is. I have just regularly lubed the sunroof tracks and it has not been a problem.Great way to give a prospective MS buyer a good view of what to expect. Put a Temperature sensor on that charging plug and watch it over a few hours of charging. Those dryer receptacle plugs aren't really made to dissipate heat for full power for hours. There made for dryers, full power for maybe 45 mins. The internal components cook due to high heat. Also, don't gang multiple extension cords at these high power (6 kW +) levels. Also turn off the lights and looks for sparks in the outlet and in your power panel while it's charging. Older power panels do not manage heat and full circuit loads as well as modern, fit for purpose panels Thanks.

Hey will great video I bought 1 in February same car p85+ I also have free super charging love this car wanted to give you a heads up you may wanna hold off on mcu2 because tesla will gimp the cars battery even more they call it capping the battery. You will get an error saying maximum battery reduced and the car will not charge to full. If I were u I wouldn't update the software anymore because they will add a software file to cap it. 😉 and find a 3rd party ev shop to fix anything because tesla service is bad news I believe they are milking us for anything they can get you to pay because we're out of warranty
@@williewilliams9871 no problem I just downgrade my software to v8 faster charging speeds and took off the governor to hit 190mph and 0-60 in 2.7 seconds don't believe the people that say you can't hack this car because all it is is a pc and if you're Familiar with hacking consoles or a pc it was that ez to get root access block the car from tesla but still have internet and free charging I didn't make a TH-cam video on this because tesla has big Lawyers that can't be beat by an average Joe I did post this on a tesla forum but the people there were upset that a young black guy figured it out after they told me it couldn't be done 😉 it took four months to complete and learn the software
How much is your electric bill though, since you've had a tesla? Like how much more do you usually pay? That's one thing I never hear anyone talk about. Great video by the way!
It varies. The Tesla app has a tab. Where do you put in how much you pay per kilowatt and it tracks your cost for the month. Last month my cost was $59 which is actually a little bit higher than usual normally it’s between $45 and 50 $ way cheaper than gasoline.
Nice. I'm curious what is the plan b would be for yourself and other ev owners if power goes out in the area and unable to charge?? I will eventually get a Model S, just thinking about that. 🤔
Yes it is still the original battery. When it is fully charged, I still have a range of 250 miles. I was talking to my service guy who always comes to my house when I need service and he said they have very few batteries that completely go out and have to be changed, of course the few people that have had them go out makes such a spectacle of it that people feel like it is a really common issue. I think at this point when my warranty is up I am still going to keep the car. My initial plans were to sell it and get something that still had a battery warranty on it but the car still looks and runs amazing and I want to keep the full sunroof. I also have unlimited super charging so I’m willing to roll the dice.
@@williewilliams9871nice! The free super charging is what makes the Tesla S so appealing. And even if you pay the car off. Getting a new battery would be icing on the cake. Cause you’ll pretty much have a new Tesla again. Might be worth to just hang on to it and replace the battery when it’s done.
@@sipnscoot3049even if you replace the battery, the rest is still old. The screen, motors, drive train, other electronics, cooling pump, ac, heating, ... all can fail. Not worth putting 20k$ in a new battery, the rest won't make another 200k miles
Oh, hands-down, the vette without question. But I will tell you that the Tesla gives you more of a kick when you punch it. If you punch the vette it’s going to downshift and hesitate before it goes. The tesla takes off immediately. I don’t remember if I mentioned this in the video, but when I was recording and I floored the Tesla, I almost dropped my camera out of the window lol.
Best Review ive seen so far. I definetely wanna get a tesla model s soon, sell my current bmw, i really live tesla and all the tech, i drove 3 teslas before, First a model x performance for a day with 800 horsepowers, then model Y for an hour, which was long range and less fast, and then a Model 3 Standard, drove 2 laps around Nürburgring Nordschleife as well. The weight was scary cause it isnt the best braking or handling car. But i fall in love with this older Model S, specifically cause of the Life long supercharging, its too good to be true, like 500 HP, which is good enough, enough range, and otherwise i dont see anything why i wouldnt buy a Tesla as my next car. Need to save some money tho, also waiting for the cheaper Model 2 or Model Q coming out, for 25 Thousand euros. Need to see how that one is. But thank you for that awesome review, really helped me what to look for when i do buy a Model S
I don’t know off the top of my head but this car replaced a 2014 Lexus LS 460 and the insurance was about the same. Insurance really depends on your situation. I am going to be 60 years old in a few weeks and I’m not got a ticket in more than 20 years.
I have no idea. Prices are all over the place right now. If you are getting it from a private owner, I would try to get as much service information as you can. My P 85 has about 95,000 miles on it and if I sold it I would want more than $26,000 for it.
It's kind of the price. Mileage doesn't matter too much as the battery do not tend to fail due to the mileage but rather unpredictably. As soon as they reach 8 years and the battery/motor is out of warranty the price crash (a motor would cost you 10k and a battery 20k).
My understanding is that if you don't have an account set up with Tesla, you won't be able to supercharge. Most used dealers don't bother to set up an account so it's tough to test supercharging.
That is a good point I am not sure how that would work. When I bought mine I did all of the paperwork that I needed to send to TESLA while I was at the dealership and by the time I got to the first supercharger they had already changed ownership to me. That is the one disadvantage because TESLA couldn’t tell you anything about the car.
1990...I was in Jr. High and my dad brought home a new Lexus LS. I remember a neighbor saying the same kind of thing about that Lexus back then. Only time will tell.....
@@ferrynpalmer3875 You are definitely right. But the combustion engine was being made a lot longer before Lexus was born. This tech and car hasn't been made all that long. Also Lexus is, a Japanese car. Which we have many examples of different brands from them; lasting for a very long time. And Lexus brand has been known to fix cars 15-20 years old. Out of warranty; to show their commitment to quality and customer respect. I just don't think Tesla will do that. Based on what their currently doing.
Needed this, maybe could've chopped it up into several vids but still much needed! I'm hesitant to buy from Elon since he obviously is treating people like shit these days, but I was going to buy an older model from a private seller.. and that feels like the worst thing I could do now. I can't have my car in the shop a week after purchase 😭
You needed to have the car towed so many times, yet you are saying that you will get another one again? You must have gotten a free Tesla for the review😂😂
The car was towed 3 times within the first few months I had it. The car has been trouble free ever since with the exception of a couple of minor things that cost less than $200. So yes, I stand by what I said and I assure you I did not get a free car. On average since I have the free supercharging that car cost me about $30 a month to operate, I’d say that’s a win.
@@williewilliams9871 I was just pulling your leg, I concur with you that it is a good deal, and now the prices of the 2014-2015 model S being under $15k, these cars sound so much more appealing, I am contemplating getting one myself, and your vlog was very informative.

If I were u I wouldn't update the software anymore because they will add a software file to cap it. 😉 and find a 3rd party ev shop to fix anything because tesla service is bad news I believe they are milking us for anything they can get you to pay because we're out of warranty
Good points thanks.
@@workbirdygaming shoot man share the secrets. I’d buy an old one if I can unlock it.
My model s needed a $7500+ repair 1 week after buying it. Luckily the used car salesman sold me a third party insurance policy that covered it.
What was wrong with it?
@@williewilliams9871 Needs new rear drivetrain. Won't drive till then. Currently scheduled to be done.
Very good info. Thank you.
Very helpful video - Thanks!
Glad it was helpful. I love the car
The model s looks better than the model 3. But I guess it’s more expensive as well.
Thank you- enjoyed the review subscribed and liked hope it helps your channel grow. Best wishes 👍🏻
Thanks I appreciate it. I am in the process of finding a camera system to install on the Tesla should be fun lol
Nice. I'm curious what is the plan b would be for yourself and other ev owners if power goes out in the area and unable to charge?? I will eventually get a Model S, just thinking about that. 🤔
Never really thought about it. Hopefully if that happens I will have enough juice to get to a working supercharger.
If power goes out in the city then there will be other more important things to worry about than charging a car..
if power goes out pumps probably won’t work or will be sparse, so same issue as ice
solar home setup with a battery like a powerwall, would allow for home charging
All of these events happened under 8yr unlimited miles battery and drive motor warranty?
Great video, i will buy
And I don’t think the body style has changed much over the years
Only the front bumper, other than that it's the same
@@tiloalothe lights from the back too
Are you still on the same traction battery? And what’s your full range on your battery now?
Willie, how do you like it vs your Vette? Thanks for this video! Great to see your personal approach.
@@williewilliams9871 yeah. You apologized for the unsteady shot. 🤣 you have some fun cars. Cheers!
I have model s with 13000 miles on it. Everything is still working.
Yes whatever you may think good or bad about Elon Musk these are some amazing cars.
Great informative video, s/o my Ohio Fam! #TheLand
What is the supercharger charge speed? From something like 5-20% soc? Also, what's your estimated full range?
My range is 250. Not sure about the supercharger speed but I want to say it’s usually around 300 mph
@@williewilliams9871 in typical or rated?
What’s your insurance cost?
I don’t know off the top of my head but this car replaced a 2014 Lexus LS 460 and the insurance was about the same. Insurance really depends on your situation. I am going to be 60 years old in a few weeks and I’m not got a ticket in more than 20 years.
Thank You Much 👍🏽
I wonder if the S 60 is all wheel drive?
I don’t think the older ones had all wheel drive available. I’m not sure what year they started offering it but I know they did not offer it in 2014.
Very honest a reassuring review. Thank you very much.
Does the charging go down if you are not operating the vehicle?
Marginally
I’m looking at a 2014 model s 60 with 73k miles and price is $26,900. Is this a good deal?
I have no idea. Prices are all over the place right now. If you are getting it from a private owner, I would try to get as much service information as you can. My P 85 has about 95,000 miles on it and if I sold it I would want more than $26,000 for it.
@@williewilliams9871 okay well it sounds like this is a good deal for me since it has 73k miles and they are asking $26k
@@BeingErikaWhite I jus found one for 15k
It's kind of the price. Mileage doesn't matter too much as the battery do not tend to fail due to the mileage but rather unpredictably.
As soon as they reach 8 years and the battery/motor is out of warranty the price crash (a motor would cost you 10k and a battery 20k).
You can get a Tesla for 4k in the UK
Thank you
Does all Model s have air shocks?
Nope
Wait, you put a DISHWASHER in it?? 😳
Sure did
deo you know what percentage your battery life is?
I’ve had very little. I believe originally this had a 250 mile range and if I charge to 100% it shows about 246 miles
I Timed that 0-60 to about 4.74 seconds smh wow!!!!!
That baby will go!!
It's the great unknown with this car. Versus something like a Lexus.
It is 240v NOT 220 !!!
Yeah, Jill Scott!
I had growing pains but for the last 10 months it has been flawless. Unfortunately the prices are sky high right now.
cool
👍
How does it work without a engine

You're wrong. The P 85 is a dual motor car. 1 front, 1 back.
Um…… no I know what I have. P85 is single motor rear wheel drive. The P85D is dual motor 1 front 1 back. NOT THE P85.
No you are wrong.
Not this 2014. Open front trunk with microwave extra space tells the story.
No. P85 Performance is a single rear motor. I’ve got the same car.
P85D has dual motors. That’s what the “D” means in the name.
