The glow plug fault indication has been showing for a while on my 91 350SDL turbo diesel with the 603.970 motor. Let's investigate why and repair the problem.
My farm ute is a 2006 Ssangyong Musso with a 2,9 litre 5 cylinder merc diesel and done 260km so I expect it will be good for 500km, observing the miles on this vehicle. Thanks for this info on Glow plugs.
There's an easier way to see which plug is bad. The connector is numbered from 1 to 6, the numbers are very small and you need a magnifying glass to see them, but they correspond to the cylinder number. Cylinder number 1 is at the front, and cylinder 6 is at the rear.
Your video just popped up again and I see Vito asked if you still have the car some time back and you just said yes. How is it running now. You said it needed suspension work. I wonder if the ball joints on that are like the ones on my 85 123 I used to have. They are pressed in and you obviously need a hydraulic press to do them. I always wanted one of those 6 banger diesels but never found one. Now I have an 01 e320 sport. Runs like a bat out of he'll but is a high maintenance b****! Lol Happy new year!
Thanks for the speedy response I’m having hard starting issues, then rough idle for a little bit if it’s cold. If the weather is warm it rough idle for a few seconds then it smooths out. My glow plug light cycles on. I have a 1987 300TD so it’s the 3.0. Would mine do the same as yours too I’d my glow plugs didn’t work? I also may think it the injectors because I see seepage around number 1 and number 2 injectors. It would be great to get you feedback on this. I also have a 1993 300D 2.5 turbo, this one starts in any temp or weather without diesel additives. Thanks for your time.
@@MY-pj8cd The 87 relay might act differently than the 91. Your best bet is to use a test light at the connector at the relay, and see if any plugs are open circuit.
All my glow plugs are good but still not coming on. I dont get the constant beep for a few seconds when I go to start the engine but it still starts. Any suggestions.
The key / seatbelt buzzer is seperate from the glow plug control. Check your glow plug relay. Be sure it has constant power, the fuse is good (if so equipped), and it's getting the ignition on signal. I suppose it's possible your ignition switch is bad.
Any idea on what size the return hose for the injectors is? I ended up breaking one off while replacing glow plugs, and the auto stores haven't been much help
hello I have a 1997 korando with a mercedes benz 662 engine and the glow plug light stays on with the panel lit and with the ignition off not When switched on, it produces white smoke behind it and some noise and difficulty even when hot what can be at 160k km
benzlover55 you would use the ohms setting. To be honest, the test light is a better test. The best test is to remove the plug and hook it up to 12v. The heater can go bad at the tip. In that case the plug will still measure about the same but will perform much worse.
@@compu85 I agree that a bench test with 12v is the best test. I do not agree that the test light is better than a multimeter. I have always used a multimeter ohm test to check glow plugs. Just did the glow plugs on my 87 300td. All tested good with a test light but 3 tested bad with multimeter (high resistance). When I removed them and did a bench test they were in fact bad.
@@compu85 the intake manifold bolt that holds the glow plug wiring harness wasn't aligned correctly. I've been driving the car successfully for the past 4 months haha

You do have the memory of a goldfish. I am much, much older than you and I remembered it was 4 and 6. Just saying. Lol It sounds like you have an exhsust leak. Just doesn't sound right.
you should make it important to say when you reinstall the plugs. that you put anti-seize on the threads that go in the pre chamber
Good point! Just a tiny little dab will make life easier the next time the plug needs to come out.
yes because if that glow plug breaks off in the hoie. You are in a heap of trouble
What is the best anti-seize for this case?
@@neamtialin I'd go with something copper based because of the high temperatures.
I feel so happy knowing mine ain’t the only one making this sound. Found the problem ig thank you!

Do u know how to get to them? I need to replace mine but theres a lot of stuff in the way that I'm not sure if Itll be okay to remove

So you are saying if the glow plug light does not come on, then there is a fault in the glow plug system?
Yes. On my late 603, the light won’t come on when you turn the key, then comes on while driving.

Could you please do a vacuum lines video on this model please?
@@Boneyardtrash I could, it would be super short though, the 350 has a fairly simple engine vacuum system.

Sounds like your glow plug relay has failed. I'd start by making sure it's sending power to the glow plugs when the ignition is switched on.
Sweet Benz. Do you still have it?
I do. It needs suspension and body refurbishment, I’m hoping to be able to do that this summer if being in public gets safer.
quick question, how would you use a multimeter for this? (I don't have a test light)

go to harbor freight and pick one up. they are like $5 or so

Start at the relay and work out. Is the fuse blown? Do you have a connection from the plugs at the relay to the glow plugs?
