Lets all say a prayer for Kenny Jeremiah (original member of the soul survivors) he's in the hospital with a very bad case of (Covid 19) he's day to day, everyone say a prayer please!
Not that Sirius-XM is bad now but in the first two or three years of XM Radio it was a revelation. Recordings of those earlier shows would do well here I believe.
This song reminds me as a kid in my grandmas back yard in sunny so cal corona ca she would listen to kola 99.9 and this song would come on and now im 30 years old and still love oldies she brought her grandchildren into this music but i miss you grandma thanks for bringing me up into oldies
Your description of this music along with your memories of your grandmother’s backyard hit a real note with me. I was born in 1964, in Montgomery, Alabama. I grew up in a neighboring county outside Montgomery, but had in those days many relatives in that city. My family always had business and visitation in Montgomery. This was before any interstate highway(s). AM radio was all I remember back then, and my parents listened to either, or both, classical/symphony or Big Band. But there were times when my mother would tag along and listen to ‘60s soft rock because of my older sister, who was born in ‘56. Those early times my sister and mother shaped how I was exposed to that music are priceless. I recall my sister listening to that “long haired, hippie” music, and those times when all of that was going on. Along with those memories, kindergarten and all, I’m also forgetting how Vietnam used to scare me because of TV.
WRONG!!!!!This was the original studio version that the radio stations would not play because it was 2 minutes to long. Gamble & Huff were not happy about this But then had to cut it down to 2.21 minutes, VERY TRUE Fact
@@richardsoffice9176 the Collectables cds all contain a shorter version of the song. One Eric Records CD has a slightly longer stereo mix with the cold ending but still edited closer to the single version.
Usually the stereo mix is different than the mono mix. Just listen to the stereo and mono mix of the Monkees "Little bit me, Little bit you." The Mono mix is great! The Stereo mix is a disaster! E.G. the Stereo mix has no hand clapping.
LO❤E!!!!! My 6 yr old ears liked this song while living in ENY section of BK. Mother's radio was playing in her kitchen. What a great song! Gamble & Huff penned this tune btw.🎶🎵💯💯🥰💜
I BOUGHT THIS RECORD BACK IN '67 AND WORE IT OUT HAD TO BUY A 2ND COPY......I HAD NO IDEA THAT 1.)GAMBLE AND HUFF PRODUCED THIS "CLASSIC" 2.)AND THAT THEY WERE FROM PHILLY.. 3 ) THEY WERE/ARE... "BLUE EYE SOUL SINGERS"..... ONE WORD THEY HAD TALENT !!!
Took me forever to find this song, Echoing for months in my mind. Trying to remember by who. A lost time of true inocents it seems! Incredible moving 🎵 so,so captivating, Such soul!!!!
I've never heard a copy with clean clear crisp sounding drums like this..these were just young guys back then you'd never know it..they sound older somehow.
It's 'Signal Processing.' The assumption was / still is, so that everyone can hear it, the dynamic range is eliminated, the sound compressed, the low volume passages brought up, the peaks squished down, to a very narrow bandwidth of volume. This alters, changes the tone, the tonality of the sound, a lot, as we can hear between the sound of the original single, and this! For many years, the idea was to get max impact over substandard equipment: tinny transistor radios, average but not great car radios and speakers. Things have gradually improved, over the years, with F M Radio, better stereos and car systems. Still too much signal, sound manipulation.
superb audio much appreciation....................................................................................................................................................
Back then we'd hear this followed by the Doors followed by Otis Redding followed by " Wild Thing on AM radio. ". A great time musically. We'd jump up and start dancing with friends when this came on the radio.
As a kid I thought this was Sam and Dave with the Righteous Brothers (singing the "much too long") portion - Guess I was wrong - regardless a great song and thanks for posting a longer version I never knew existed - this song could be 30 minutes long and it would be fine....
Hi to all in the Survivors from Joe Seddon (you knew me as Jody Sterling) lead singer/lead guitarist for "The Rubber Band." We were signed to Howie Michaels as you were, doing concerts w/you, and he died of a heart attack, canceling the tours we had on Cruise Ships to the Virgin Islands and Bermuda. So sorry to read that Richie has passed on? True? I`m sure you remember Tommy, our front man who played some great guitar, and Denny on keys. Gary Volpe on drums. A real wild man. He left after we quit the "Living Room" in Philly where we played opposite you guys along with Cookie Jar and The Krumbs. Gary joined the "Four Seasons." I was also there "w/The Monkey Men" out of Trenton. I`ve been trying to get in touch w/Cookie who is in Vegas now, but not easy. Will find him tho just to say hi and catch up. He was a great friend as was Billy Horner. (Sally Sayin` Something) Sadly, i learned that Jerry Marlo, our bass player, is no longer making music. He too left us. So, Charlie, if you get this note, drop a line to me at this tune: "Rock Me With Your Fever" by Joe Seddon and i`ll get a note back to you. Gonna` use this a a "mailbox" of sorts. Best to you all, think of you often, a great band and some mighty fine fellows in it. Joe p.s. I added a photo of "The Rubber Band" to "Rock Me With Your Fever" in honor of Jerry. This when we appeared twice on The "Jerry Blavett Dance Show." Jerry Marlo in on the far right, Tommy up front and myself, guitar. Jerry Blavett sent me an e-mail last month w/a photo of himself included from a nightclub in Philly where he is the D.J. So nice that he easily recalled us after so many groups had a spot there.
Phludelphia classic! reminds me of going to the Franklin Institute with my dad for my birthday and playing in the fountain across from the public library afterwards. Wonderful memories.
Wow, I have never heard this long version of this song before. Great version, but at 4:23 I understand why most stations, living in a 2:30-3:00 world, wouldn't play it.
According to the book in the 4 C D Box Set "Cameo - Parkway 1957 - 1967" Gamble and Huff began to be associated with Cameo - Parkway in 1964. After the demise of these labels, they took over the Cameo - Parkway headquarters and recording studio, in a sense making the Cameo - Parkway legacy, important again..
Always reminds me of Margate....sneaking into the clubs. 10 people in one Motel Room. No funny stuff. Our main man Phil ...finally found out he is still doing great will always love you. The kind where I just didn't know why you were just so funny and cool.
😏😏The sound of traffic always gets me I haven’t heard this song since junior high 2008 tough times but still were fun a lot of music that I’d listen to
A couple of things, I was 9 yrs old when this song came out & loved it, I thought it was performed by Black artists, suffered a severe case of misheard lyrics and lastly, unbelievable version. How do I get it into my collection?
I always thought the radio version was too short. This is really cool.
Lets all say a prayer for Kenny Jeremiah (original member of the soul survivors) he's in the hospital with a very bad case of (Covid 19) he's day to day, everyone say a prayer please!
Unfortunately he passed away this morning.
I just figured it out after all these years, these guys sounded like The Rascals !!
Yes, but this has a little of the Philly soul edge thrown into it.
Damn in the 2021 this original shit is banging.
Always loved this tune - very soulful ! I did see them perform on the Daytona Beach pier in 1968 !!
When we as a society excepted great songs without any discriminatory words. Wow...wonderful vocals!
*accepted* ,not excepted.
As long as I have loved this song, I had no idea that there was a extended version!! THANK YOU FOR UNEARTHING THIS GEM!!!!
So raw and pure! Thank heavens there was no heavy handed producer to smooth it out!!! Rock n Soul baby!!
Oh man, this extended version is all-time awesome! Thank you for posting!!!
Pat St.John played this on the SIRIUS/XM's "60's on 6" and it blew me away!!!
I never knew of this 'long version."!
Not that Sirius-XM is bad now but in the first two or three years of XM Radio it was a revelation. Recordings of those earlier shows would do well here I believe.
This was my very first 45 and it still sounds great today
One of my 3 absolute favorite songs from the '60's.. KILLER copy!
What are the other two?
This song reminds me as a kid in my grandmas back yard in sunny so cal corona ca she would listen to kola 99.9 and this song would come on and now im 30 years old and still love oldies she brought her grandchildren into this music but i miss you grandma thanks for bringing me up into oldies

Out of sight!!! I have my grandmothers original 45 version, but this extended un edit version is a monster! I always thought it could have been longer!
He made his own edit and is calling it the original unedited version. You can hear all the flaws
My mother used to play this 45 quite often while I was a kid.
WRONG!!!!!This was the original studio version that the radio stations would not play because it was 2 minutes to long. Gamble & Huff were not happy about this But then had to cut it down to 2.21 minutes, VERY TRUE Fact
Where in hell did you find this extra long cut? Strong work. Made my day and then some!!
Collectables Music, Oldis.com has a C D by The Soul Survivors with this.
Right.. This is a great oldie!! Don't record em like this anymore.
@@richardsoffice9176 the Collectables cds all contain a shorter version of the song. One Eric Records CD has a slightly longer stereo mix with the cold ending but still edited closer to the single version.

Wish they made music today like they did back then.... Amazing song
Oh yeah I agree with you totally
Most of us who came of age in the '60s have a special place in our hearts for soul music.
@@kenhoward3512 I was born in 76. I learned great music from being in the car with my father. I listened to “his “ music and was hooked from day one
Never get tired of this - Total Classic
This song will forever remind me of living and working in New York back in the day.
Great singing. I still love this old music.
Great tune! Brings me back to the good ole days.
Oh my. I’m laying in bed listening and dancing to this. This extended version is off the chain.
Gamble and huff. the sound of philadelphia 2nd to none!
Very cool! Even better reason why Daryl Hall covered this.
Like everyone else, I want to thank you for such a terrific post. Raw and clear as can be.
Impeccable
@@sophisticatedmm3632 Sounds great with good headphones.
Wow! This is a wonderful version!
KILLER SOUND !
You gotta love this great riff, I always loved this classic..
SOUL SINGING AT ITS BEST. ** ROCK SOUL**
RIP! Kenny lead singer died 2020 of covid 19. 😂 best version. A Gamble & Huff masterpiece

Egbert Souce. Right ! Stereo version above sounds dull.
mono edit(45 vers.) was "hotter"mix
Yet another great stay on the dance floor jam from back in my day.......
LO❤E!!!!! My 6 yr old ears liked this song while living in ENY section of BK. Mother's radio was playing in her kitchen. What a great song! Gamble & Huff penned this tune btw.🎶🎵💯💯🥰💜
I had the 45rpm of this back in the 1960s, great song, cool beat!
