The UNPSC used corrupted individuals who were inside the area to study the zone, they retained their conscious and were tasked with exploring the zone and completing missions for the UNPSC. The explorers can also withstand the zone since nothing can enter or leave other than basic electronics and firearms, meaning they cannot leave the zone but artifacts and other guns and simple electronics can leave without harm.
