Squier Bullets are the real deal in a sea of copycats. Love the older examples with rosewood boards. Some really nice Bullets were coming out of Indonesia there at the end. Bought two last year when MF was closing them out for $149, one surf green and one lake placid blue. Put a new CV maple neck from the STRATosphere on the surf green. The laurel board on the lake placid blue strat looks nicer than most I've seen so it stayed. Installed new cream and antique white three ply pickguards, knobs and pickup cover. Kept the pickups because the ceramic magnets though powerful aren't half bad just have to run the neck and middle pickups almost flat to the pickguard and adjust the bridge pickup height to equal volume with the neck. Have no fear leaving them out so they are always close and practice with them often. Cheers!
This one is pretty great. I think the ones with these features, which I've so far noted are at least 2007 to 2009, maybe 2010, are the best I've found. The serials for the good ones all seem to start with COB.
I always took the squiers for granted back then because the MIM and American made fenders were so affordable but looking back now that everything is so much higher, those squiers really were very great guitars hiding in plain sight
Love that vintage cream finish and the aged knobs. I've got a Sterling String Ray bass in that color. Would have looked a lot cooler if the pick guard had aged too.
love the COB serial number bullets from this year. There is plenty of space to drop in kluson inline tuners too, with the extended portion to the headstock around the low E tuner,... even if it looks a little off once noticed:)
i have a Yako CY serial from the same year in daphne blue (aged to almost surf green!), great little strat but the low E hole is too close to the lower end of the headstock for kluson style tuners , luckily the original hex shaped tuners do the job well enough!

I love these Squiers. They are an excellent platform for some mods. But be careful, by the time you're done you could have bought a mexican strat.
Ha, definitely true!

Yeah, I was very surprised when I took it apart how decent the quality is!

It’s odd that it didn’t, but the plastic must prevent it

That’s good to know!

Squier quality can vary, but I find they almost always clean up well with a few upgrades and a setup.
That's what I love about them! They’re perfect for a budget build.
