One of the best shows of all time. The show made me laugh when I was a kid, and at 60, it still makes me laugh today. The show was clean, funny, and had good morals. Rest in peace, Tony.

I was born in 1955 and I watched 'Leave It To Beaver' growing up. It seem like a much better time in those days without all the violence, profanity, nudity, sex, and fornication we currently see on television. Wally was such a nice big brother to Beaver which was refreshing to watch. I still watch reruns on ME T.V. and Tubi T.V. as the Cleaver family was to be admired! Who wouldn’t want a family like that! I’m so sorry to hear of Tony Dow’s passing & so sorry for his family. Another piece of decency and respect has been torn from the fabric of life. Tony was a make-believe friend of mine. He played his part well. His exit really hurts so many of us babyboomers. He was such a kind guy. Good-bye Tony and thank you.😢 😭 🙏 🙏

The exchanges from Andy Griffith, Chuck Connors, and Fred McMurray to their sons were priceless! As a single father, I sure learned some of my patience with child situations from those shows. God Bless them all and RIP to those who have left us.
I loved to watch Leave it to Beaver after school every day. I learned a lot about how families are " supposed" to function in a positive way. My family was so dysfunctional that it helped escape the reality of all the craziness watching the Beaver and Wally, and their parents. Thanks for the memories guys. ❤️😀

How can you remember shows from the 50's if you were born in the sixties? I have seen plenty of old shows, but I was not born when they actually aired. For that reason, I do not remember them, but I have seen them.
Tony Dow is a very impressive person...he's directed episodes and was video effects supervisor for Babylon 5, and had one of his sculptures in the Louvre, among other accomplishments...to this day, I still say "What did you do a goofy thing like that, for?"

Watched with my grandkids today for the first time and they loved it! I grew up watching Leave it to Beaver, I am 62 and my grandchildren are 5 and 9. Another generation of fans is now in place. I have Netflix and the only way to get it was to pay for it. Then I got one of those silly looking things that you put on the window and it acts like an antenna (I thought would it work?) It does and now I get to see (Leave it to Beaver) on MeTv Love it!
I think I would have made quite a more entertaining and realistic addition to Mayfield and to the show. I could have been a neighbor or classmate or friend of that handsome Wally or Ms Cleaver's competition for her husband Ward. The thing that struck me about this show watching it now is how good the parents were - especially the father, who really took the time to tell the boys how to think about things and how to live life well. Guess this sounds a bit vague - and yes it was an innocent show - but I do think it reflected a good morality.
Hugh Beaumont played Ward Cleaver and was SO believable as Theodore (Beaver) and Wally's dad. He was perfect in that role. Some interesting trivia about Hugh Beaumont -- he earned a Masters in Divinity degree from USC. He was not only a talented actor, but an excellent writer who authored short stories and screenplays. .

Hannah Chap - Correct ! As a kid watching their shows, I thought those kids were so blessed by God to have parents who never yelled at their kids, never cussed at them, never whipped them with the belt. They look like they never abused drugs because they were loved.
They actually dealt with a lot of serious issues, including the great episode that dealt with the fellow who painted their house who had an alcoholism problem!!!!!
I loved this show the best of all, especially the first 3 or 4 years of it. You can see the cast really liked each other. I grew up as a very abused child, watching this show brings a warm and gentle peace that I never felt in my real life. I got all the DVDs and watch it a lot even now at 65 yrs old. Yes, no one has this perfect life, but when you mix a too good to be true life with a horrific life, somehow you reach a happy medium. I hope I'm making sense. Yes it is escapism, but who is it hurting. I loved rusty who played Larry, his comic timing was perfect and so was his mannerisms, I wish he had stayed on the show, he is why season 2 is my favorite. Yeah, same here. I have the same affinity for the Larry Mondello character. I just loved him. Completely out of his mind. When he left a little part of the show died. He really was one of the all time great child actors who really knew instinctively how to play that role. And always taking an apple out of his pocket. And the faces he made. Just incredible. I was growing up at the same time as all those guys. Same age as Jerry. The show to this day has a great calming influence.

God bless them! My sister was born the year this show aired and I still watch it every weekday morning. A simpler time, a better time. When there was no division to speak of and people truly cared about others. So glad I am not young today and pity those who will have to live through what is yet to come.
And it would have been even MORE of a classic if they had gotten rid of June Cleaver and allowed me to hook up with Ward. Beaver and Wally would have been sent to an orphanage and viewers such as yourself would have been treated each afternoon to the delightful shenanigans of me and Ward Cleaver. It would have been an absolute match made in rerun heaven.
I'm glad you fellows are still around and in sound mind and body. The show worked on a number of levels. As a boy, I identified with Beaver's confusion about the larger world and gullibility when it came to how to act in situations with other kids. As an adult, I can identify with how Ward and June handled their children (and how my parents handled me in retrospect). However, in spite of the differences in race, socioeconomic status, and eras (I was born the year after it went off the air in 1963), I now realize that the values that Beaver and The Cleavers taught were identical to what I learned from my parents, teachers, other elders, Sunday School, and The Cub Scouts. Most family shows from the Beaver era to The Cosby Show taught the same values. All of that kept a lot of us grounded as kids, in my opinion.

Exactly. I hate these sitcoms where they have kids saying adult things. Somehow that's supposed to be cute and funny. I think it's stupid and unfunny. The Beaver and Wally characters seemed so authentic, which is what draws me to that show. The stories and the way the characters talk and react are all so relatable.
Total class gentlemen. That's all you can really say about these guys. They were excellent on the show, total professionals then and now. They've embraced their legacy as tv kids and have gone on many, many decades and generations later to take their fame that they got from the show and continue to spread positivity from it. The entertainment factor that Leave It To Beaver brings to people of all ages still resonates. Sure, it's a dated and life wasn't really THAT rosy, , but, the show took negative situations that occasionally occurred and made them turn out in a positive light. The show wasn't supposed to be completely accurate because they had major censorship back then but there was a common, I believe Christian, theme within the show that made it a show that you can watch with you're children
I remember watching the show when I was 7 in 1964. I lived in an unhappy home. I remember feeling captivated by the father on the show, and I wished they could be my parents. I remember one episode in particular where I was extremely touched by the father's role and I cried. I longed to have a dad and mother like them.

From the little I've seen of Tony as an adult, it seems like he's what Wally would be as an adult; kow key and modest. Great that he did the sailing with the Exporer Scouts. Great experience for them to sail a boat like that. Sorry that we lost Tony this week. Condolences to the family and loved ones.
I believe that most dissenting commenters here did not actually live at that time. The whiles and woes of life then WERE far fewer and way simpler. The statute-law pile had not yet grown to the totally unworkable thing that it now has. For sixty long years since, politicians have been working furiously, throwing one law tether after another around us all. It cannot be undone, only reset. This is but one aspect of many, that allows we who were alive back then to think of that time nostalgically. I was 8 years-young when "Leave it to Beaver" first aired in 1957, and it was part of my life until 1963 when the show ended. It definitely goes without saying that LITB is one of the all-time great t.v. programs. To have never been off television for 65 years and counting, just boggles the mind!

This show had some profound things to say...cleverly disguised as 'entertainment'.One of the most important scenes in all of entertainment was the episode where Wally's father confronts him over his friendship with 'Eddie Haskell'...and Wally tells 'Dad' "Yeah...I know Eddie's kinda' of a creep sometimes...but I have to be friends with him...or he wouldn't have any friends".This is one of the best lines of dialogue ever uttered by a character in any show..."I have to be friends with Eddie or he wouldn't have any friends". What a lesson on what it means to be a 'good person' in your heart...this is the very bedrock of Christianity itself. (never mind the analogy to a religious philosophy...the 'right thing to do is always right of itself' is self-evident) As a kid...I not only looked a lot like 'Beaver'...I had friends exactly like his...and my own 'Miss Landers' that I had a crush on! And many of the 'crises' Beaver had...I had too! "Lost jacket/Note from school/Big kid stole my bike"/and many others...ALLthose things happened to me too! I hope that "Beaver & Wally" know what a huge influence they were to MILLIONS of kids 'way back when' and how much we all learned from them...characters that were a 'fiction' and yet real at the same instant...that's why the show was so popular and still endures...society now is vastly different from when I was a kid...but being a kid hasn't changed at all, and having good parents hasn't changed either.

beaver was a DJ in Yakima and I would listen to him while driving across the desert when it picked up till it faded out in between Seattle and Spokane. he was an astonishing DJ and would talk at amazing speed and never miss a word. and yes that would include "dont forget stock car races this weekend sponsored by bills fix a flat"

Well, I'm old enough to have watched Leave it to Beaver the first time around, and I'm sort of familiar with Modern Family . . . and if you watch either one, your brain is rotting away.
Jerry and Tony turn 72 and 76 this year. I'm 57 so born the year LITB ended, but of course non-stop re-runs throughout childhood, so the show still holds a place in the heart for me and huge numbers of my generation. Thanks guys =)
The years have flown by. I saw Tony at a screening at the motion picture academy when I was in college, and that was over 30 years ago. There two are terrific! The haircut episode had me in stitches.

I love and agree with so many excellent comments on here! It's so awesome to hear of these actors many years later actually truly fitting the characters they played! Tony Dow is still the calm, cool, good looking collected type, and Jerry Mathers shows pride, and a lot if intelligence he's learned through the years. Not like actors years later always getting into trouble with the law or drugs and alcohol addiction. It's refreshing to bring back better memories in this now messed up world we are in. I watch this every morning with my family before I go to work. Clean family shows like this are very refreshing these days. It may not be 100% realistic but reality is what I'm looking to get away from when I watch TV.

Beaver always brings back lots of very happy memories from my childhood. A lovely, gentle show with a great cast. May it remain on a screen somewhere in the world forever. Rest in peace Tony Dow who passed just recently.
The thing that struck me about this show watching it now is how good the parents were - especially the father, who really took the time to tell the boys how to think about things and how to live life well. Guess this sounds a bit vague - and yes it was an innocent show - but I do think it reflected a good morality.
Hugh Beaumont played Ward Cleaver and was SO believable as Theodore (Beaver) and Wally's dad. He was perfect in that role. Some interesting trivia about Hugh Beaumont -- he earned a Masters in Divinity degree from USC. He was not only a talented actor, but an excellent writer who authored short stories and screenplays. .
@@debbiecooper9407 I never knew any of Hugh Beaumont's life history. That explains a great deal about his compassion exhibited in his acting on Leave It To Beaver.
Hannah Chap - Correct ! As a kid watching their shows, I thought those kids were so blessed by God to have parents who never yelled at their kids, never cussed at them, never whipped them with the belt.
They look like they never abused drugs because they were loved.
They actually dealt with a lot of serious issues, including the great episode that dealt with the fellow who painted their house who had an alcoholism problem!!!!!

Such an incredibly feel good show. Always picked me up emotionally when the real world was too much.
I’m in tears right now thinking about Tony. Both he and Jerry are great human beings.
I loved this show the best of all, especially the first 3 or 4 years of it. You can see the cast really liked each other. I grew up as a very abused child, watching this show brings a warm and gentle peace that I never felt in my real life. I got all the DVDs and watch it a lot even now at 65 yrs old. Yes, no one has this perfect life, but when you mix a too good to be true life with a horrific life, somehow you reach a happy medium. I hope I'm making sense. Yes it is escapism, but who is it hurting. I loved rusty who played Larry, his comic timing was perfect and so was his mannerisms, I wish he had stayed on the show, he is why season 2 is my favorite. Yeah, same here. I have the same affinity for the Larry Mondello character. I just loved him. Completely out of his mind. When he left a little part of the show died. He really was one of the all time great child actors who really knew instinctively how to play that role. And always taking an apple out of his pocket. And the faces he made. Just incredible. I was growing up at the same time as all those guys. Same age as Jerry. The show to this day has a great calming influence.

God bless them! My sister was born the year this show aired and I still watch it every weekday morning. A simpler time, a better time. When there was no division to speak of and people truly cared about others. So glad I am not young today and pity those who will have to live through what is yet to come.

And it would have been even MORE of a classic if they had gotten rid of June Cleaver and allowed me to hook up with Ward. Beaver and Wally would have been sent to an orphanage and viewers such as yourself would have been treated each afternoon to the delightful shenanigans of me and Ward Cleaver. It would have been an absolute match made in rerun heaven.

I'm glad you fellows are still around and in sound mind and body. The show worked on a number of levels. As a boy, I identified with Beaver's confusion about the larger world and gullibility when it came to how to act in situations with other kids. As an adult, I can identify with how Ward and June handled their children (and how my parents handled me in retrospect). However, in spite of the differences in race, socioeconomic status, and eras (I was born the year after it went off the air in 1963), I now realize that the values that Beaver and The Cleavers taught were identical to what I learned from my parents, teachers, other elders, Sunday School, and The Cub Scouts. Most family shows from the Beaver era to The Cosby Show taught the same values. All of that kept a lot of us grounded as kids, in my opinion.

Exactly. I hate these sitcoms where they have kids saying adult things. Somehow that's supposed to be cute and funny. I think it's stupid and unfunny. The Beaver and Wally characters seemed so authentic, which is what draws me to that show. The stories and the way the characters talk and react are all so relatable.

Total class gentlemen. That's all you can really say about these guys. They were excellent on the show, total professionals then and now. They've embraced their legacy as tv kids and have gone on many, many decades and generations later to take their fame that they got from the show and continue to spread positivity from it. The entertainment factor that Leave It To Beaver brings to people of all ages still resonates. Sure, it's a dated and life wasn't really THAT rosy, , but, the show took negative situations that occasionally occurred and made them turn out in a positive light. The show wasn't supposed to be completely accurate because they had major censorship back then but there was a common, I believe Christian, theme within the show that made it a show that you can watch with you're children
It was a more wholesome world, as evidenced by the fact that neither of them had substance abuse problems like later child stars.
I remember watching the show when I was 7 in 1964. I lived in an unhappy home. I remember feeling captivated by the father on the show, and I wished they could be my parents. I remember one episode in particular where I was extremely touched by the father's role and I cried. I longed to have a dad and mother like them.
My dad really liked the show as did all of us kids. Lumpy, Eddie Haskell, Beav,Wally.mom always dressed up when she ran the house haha

I always fantasized that I could squeeze through the television screen and rip those pearls from around June Cleaver's neck and chase her out of Mayfield! Couldn't STAND her!

I'm 63 years old and l still watch leave it to beaver ....brings my husband and l great comfort like being a kid again ...love the show ...
From the little I've seen of Tony as an adult, it seems like he's what Wally would be as an adult; kow key and modest. Great that he did the sailing with the Exporer Scouts. Great experience for them to sail a boat like that. Sorry that we lost Tony this week. Condolences to the family and loved ones.

I believe that most dissenting commenters here did not actually live at that time. The whiles and woes of life then WERE far fewer and way simpler. The statute-law pile had not yet grown to the totally unworkable thing that it now has. For sixty long years since, politicians have been working furiously, throwing one law tether after another around us all. It cannot be undone, only reset. This is but one aspect of many, that allows we who were alive back then to think of that time nostalgically. It is fully justified, and is in no way a matter of mere fantasy born of selective memory.

I was 8 years-young when "Leave it to Beaver" first aired in 1957, and it was part of my life until 1963 when the show ended. It definitely goes without saying that LITB is one of the all-time great t.v. programs. To have never been off television for 65 years and counting, just boggles the mind!

This show had some profound things to say...cleverly disguised as 'entertainment'.One of the most important scenes in all of entertainment was the episode where Wally's father confronts him over his friendship with 'Eddie Haskell'...and Wally tells 'Dad' "Yeah...I know Eddie's kinda' of a creep sometimes...but I have to be friends with him...or he wouldn't have any friends".This is one of the best lines of dialogue ever uttered by a character in any show..."I have to be friends with Eddie or he wouldn't have any friends". What a lesson on what it means to be a 'good person' in your heart...this is the very bedrock of Christianity itself. (never mind the analogy to a religious philosophy...the 'right thing to do is always right of itself' is self-evident) As a kid...I not only looked a lot like 'Beaver'...I had friends exactly like his...and my own 'Miss Landers' that I had a crush on! And many of the 'crises' Beaver had...I had too! "Lost jacket/Note from school/Big kid stole my bike"/and many others...ALLthose things happened to me too! I hope that "Beaver & Wally" know what a huge influence they were to MILLIONS of kids 'way back when' and how much we all learned from them...characters that were a 'fiction' and yet real at the same instant...that's why the show was so popular and still endures...society now is vastly different from when I was a kid...but being a kid hasn't changed at all, and having good parents hasn't changed either.

beaver was a DJ in Yakima and I would listen to him while driving across the desert when it picked up till it faded out in between Seattle and Spokane. he was an astonishing DJ and would talk at amazing speed and never miss a word. and yes that would include "dont forget stock car races this weekend sponsored by bills fix a flat"

Jerry and Tony turn 72 and 76 this year. I'm 57 so born the year LITB ended, but of course non-stop re-runs throughout childhood, so the show still holds a place in the heart for me and huge numbers of my generation. Thanks guys =)

The years have flown by. I saw Tony at a screening at the motion picture academy when I was in college, and that was over 30 years ago. There two are terrific! The haircut episode had me in stitches.

I love and agree with so many excellent comments on here! It's so awesome to hear of these actors many years later actually truly fitting the characters they played! Tony Dow is still the calm, cool, good looking collected type, and Jerry Mathers shows pride, and a lot if intelligence he's learned through the years. Not like actors years later always getting into trouble with the law or drugs and alcohol addiction. It's refreshing to bring back better memories in this now messed up world we are in. Thanks you for all the wonderful memories! RIP Tony Dow!

I watch this every morning with my family before I go to work. Clean family shows like this are very refreshing these days. It may not be 100% realistic but reality is what I'm looking to get away from when I watch TV.
