Very, very similar. The Greco had a tiny bit more ”pop” to it, and the Gibson sounded a little deeper. But with a little eq tweaking they could probably be made to sound exactly the same.
Maybe they smell different.
Seriously, I think the only difference is ebony board on the Gibby, and rosewood on the Greco.
Thanks for watching!
The Greco has such nice round tone and lovely sustain
I agree, thanks for watching!
Just confirms what everyone knows anyway, you pay a lot extra just to have the Gibson name on the headstock.
There Imitated, But! Why have a Wanna be. Gibson or nothing else Matters. Love my 57 Les Paul standard and the 62 ES 335
A Gibson is much better as an investment.
@@PeterKolta There’s almost nothing that is more antithetical to the spirit of rock and roll than treating guitars like stocks and bonds.

i think what should be added with Guitar comparison videos is "Playability" , "Instrument Feel Response" and "Built"....
Noted suggestion, thanks for watching!
@@deanwingerter The Greco looked to have a volute plus the neck width appeared slightly narrower than the Gibson ; is this correct ?
I got a Greco EG-500 from 1979. Probably the best guitar together with my Squier JV 1982. These two cover 90% of the sounds that I need.
Greco really delivers a lot more for the price, thanks for watching and commenting!
Both amazing guitars for sure but i would take greco over Gibson its much cheaper and maybe even better quality plus the truss rod cover shape is so much better looking to me
Totally agree!
I was just checking out a Black Beauty 3 humbucker style Greco on Reverb a couple of days ago. Quite impressed with the sleek look, practically exactly like a Gibson so it was very cool to come across your comparison vid. I must say that was the most comprehensive visual comparison of two guitars I've seen-at least in under 6 minutes. Well done! Interesting to see the two taken apart with everything laid out like that. Greco does nice work. Wow! Loved your playing (nice chops) and it was rather amazing to hear how close they sounded. Hearing the Gary Moore "Parisienne Walkways" did my heart good, hadn't heard that in awhile. When I get back into some extra finances I may have to go with one of those Grecos.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and found the comparison helpful. Greco guitars are indeed impressive, and it’s amazing how close they can get to the Gibson vibe in terms of both looks and sound. Your kind words about the playing and the demo mean a lot-Gary Moore’s “Parisienne Walkways” is such a timeless piece, and it’s always a joy to play.
If you ever decide to go for a Greco, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed! They’re fantastic instruments, especially for the value. Thanks again for watching, and I hope you stumble across more gems like that Black Beauty on Reverb. Cheers!
In a live situation with another guitar, drums or bass, this difference will be totally negligible. No one will hear a difference but just think about how you play. I would say that these two pickups are actually made the same way with the same coil. But incredibly interesting that the difference is so incredibly small. I agree with Tony smith, and I will put it this way. You pay a whole lot of money for Truckloads of nothing ;) Very nice video comparison, thanks!
No doubt, I'm with you! 😉
I once owned a 88 White Les Paul Custom bought it new in 88 , biggest regret is selling it. Now..I want one again but I'm not going to pay that kind of money to get one..I can afford it but that's not the point , I really don't feel like paying that much money for a guitar anymore when there are " options" out there that are far less expensive.
Thanks for watching!
Very good comparision. Thank you very much!
🙏🏻
Just the fact that you used a Babylon A.D. lick made me like and subscribe.
Babylon A.D. and Blue Murder are some of my favorite hard rock bands, they both have amazing guitar riffs! Thanks for watching!
Great playing right there!
Thanks for watching!
Depends which Greco model EG 600 or a EG 1200, that might be a huge factor
I have a 90's Greco mint with dry pickups.... EG700, needs a re fret, and it is getting it soon. Never played a better Les Paul style or set of pickups for a humbucker. Ever.
Which are the good models to look for?
Super Real, Mint Collection, EG-68, EGC-600, EGC-900, EG1200 EG1800 etc..
No doubt, thanks for watching!
@@deanwingerter ah ok - thanks bro, I subbed!
Great vid, great playing; I can hear more treble with the Greco, but to me they both sound very good
Cool, thanks!
If somebody's saying that one is better than the other, I'm definitely missing something here. Not even a minute difference at all..
Thanks for watching!
They sounded exactly the same
For 1/4 the price!
nope, the difference is subtle but the gibson magic is evident with the sustain bends in parisienne walkway.
Gibson sounds just a touch brighter. That’s about it to me. Very nice guitar but not enough for the price difference.

date, same pickup, etc... Best Comparison
Which one do you think is the winner? Thanks for watching!
Great video!
Thanks for watching!
well,i dont think the greco sounds better than the gibson, but it sounds just as good,so close, that difference is minimal, price point isnt lol ive seen a lot of gibson/tokai/greco/burny comparisons ,sometimes the gibson shines, but many times ive preferred the burny/tokai/greco,then you have brands in japan like combat/crews maniac/bacchus/momose which are more in common with gibson custom shop ,expensive ,but cheaper than gibson
Thanks for watching!
So... same guitar and wood... it depends on the board and hardware.
Exactly! The same guitar and wood can feel completely different depending on the fretboard and hardware. These details make all the difference in tone and playability. Thanks for pointing that out!
I have both a Greco custom like Peter framptons one also a Gibson custom les Paul gold top both beautiful guitars and my go to is the Gibson every time especially the clean sound neck position ❤❤❤
Good choice, thanks for watching!
The Gibson still sounds better richer with more tonal separation.
Thanks for watching!
Damn, I wanted to hear the Gibson Pickups VS the Greco Pickups, no wonder they sound almost identical this is basically S.D. vs S.D.
BTW the band I was in in the early 90's "Whiskey Wild", opened for Babylon AD in New Orleans in the early 90's at what was called the "New Orleans Music Hall" and now is "The Howlin' Wolf" I sort of remember there was something else going on in town that night so the crowd wasn't as sizeable as it would have normally been.
Thank you for sharing a little of your experience of that time. I believe that the 80s were very important for the guitar. I'm sorry to disappoint you about the pickups. My intention was to try to show you something that I've always been curious about but had never seen anyone do here on TH-cam.
They sound slightly different from 2:29 with no distortion. Gibson sounds brighter. Greco's sound is good too, it reminds me Jim Hall's sound. I play Greco Les Paul Custom 1978 and enjoy this guitar much :)
Thanks for watching!
Both are awesome, the Gibson sounded richer/fuller however very close.😊
Thank you for watching and commenting.
First off, great choice with the Babylon AD riff, such an underrated band. First two albums are killer.
Second, do you know what model of Greco are you playing? I have a 1978 Greco EG-900 which I bought in Japan. Played quite a bit of Grecos, Burnys and Tokais across several different shops and that EG-900 was the best of the bunch, even beat out a Greco EG-1000 and EG-1200. There was a Tokai I thought was better but the price difference was ridiculous, it was a pretty high end model. Played a bunch of lower end Grecos as well and would not really recommend those. You might find a good one but as a general rule, I'd pass on them. The best lower end one I played was actually a John Sykes model which I think was an EG-650. If you can't play it first hand, I'd recommend not buying anything under a EG-700 and I'd really try to bump that up to a 800 or 900. I was fortunate enough to get mine before the vintage Japanese guitar thing was really a thing here in the states. Tremendous value in the high end of the mid-tier models or low end of the high-tier models, depends on how you want to look at it.
The Greco definetely articulates better. Interesting.
I agree, thanks for watching!
Also of note, that is more likely a MIK Greco given the block nut and second split on the solit diamond.
Don’t think it’s a mik cortek. I would say it’s an ecg600. The mik ones have the diamond right up to the Greco logo and a weird mint green colour. I have one in white and it has the split in the diamond same as this one. Mint collection late 80s. I agree that the Gibson had the edge, quite rightly, but it’s damm close!
Model EGC-900D Made in Japan (FujiGen) 1990 Mint Collection
Model EGC-900D Made in Japan (FujiGen) 1990 Mint Collection
Korean models do not have a serial number, moreover, the fingerboard on Korean-made models is richlite and not rosewood.
The greco has a thinner sound. I prefer the gibson. Though an amp knob turn could correct that variance
That’s one of those subtle differences that can really stand out, especially when A/B testing them. But as you mentioned, a quick tweak on the amp’s EQ or gain settings can often balance things out and bring the Greco closer to that Gibson tone. It’s all about finding the right adjustments to match your preferred sound. Thanks for sharing your thoughts-it’s always great to hear different perspectives!
DUNCANついてる!そりゃ音イイよね❤私も84年のEGCを新品からこれまで所有してますが作りはいいですよ~リアはDUNCANに替えてますが、素晴らしいの一言😊
No doubt! Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻
I've managed to distinguish multiple Gibson Respaul copies from the original Respaul, but I couldn't distinguish them as much as this Greco guitar, which is of very good quality but has a few issues. First, it's much heavier than the original Gibson, and second, it's similarly expensive. I'm sure many people want to buy used Respaul for the same amount of money as Greco's Respaul
Thank you for sharing your experience and opinion in the comments!
The old mij LP's were made of the same wood and spec as the gibbos of the time (model number dependent, buy cheap get cheap by high get an absolute beast)
I have a burny FLG70 and a tokai ls80 and they are mid range copies and are mint.
Do your research, most people buy a fairly cheap Orville, most are ok, tokai late 70s is always a good choice.
No doubt about it, thanks for watching!
The L.P. has a little richer tone imho. But they both had phenomenal mids! 🤘
Thanks for watching!
the binding job on the Greco looked far cleaner haha.
Yeah! No doubt.
Both guitars sound really good. Nice playing too. Do both guitars have 50s or modern wiring? Cheers!
50s wiring on both guitars. Thanks for watching and leave your opinion in the comments.
I think the Greco was made by Fuji gen co. It has a more refined sound than the Gibson, I missed the chance to get a Greco once but Gibson LP works just fine
Yes! Greco was Made In Japan by Fuji Gen.
Can you please tell me the exact model of that Greco and the main in. Thanks 🙏
1990 Greco EGC-900D Mint Collection.
nice tone. care to share.
Thanks!
There was a slight difference in the sound, but nothing that EQ could not handle. I really think that it can be pretty much any H-H guitar, especially if you listen it in the mix, and not by itself.
Thanks for watching!
I’m a huge Greco honk but the Gibson sounded better in this demo. The Greco had a noticeable bit of a metallic chime and wasn’t as “buttery” as the Gibby.
Definitely Gibson is amazing Greco is not bad in this video
Yes, thanks for watching!
Greco.
Both sounds huge but Greco has much more bass frequencies.
Gibson had much more substance to it, at 3:25 the Gibsons G string is slightly out of tune and causes an oscillating as the strings ring out, without that it would have sounded better than the Greco.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Great video thanks , very informative terrific playing
there's so much hype surrounding Gibson pickups. Instead of getting all revved up about pickups and wiring, just find a guitar that really feels good in your hands (and really sounds good). After that it's up to you.
Right on! Thanks for watching!
My 1960 Les Paul Custom had three PAFs and only the bridge pickup sounded good to my ears. A Les Paul Jr would have sufficed. @@deanwingerter

Que rico suena esa Greco por el amor a Dios
Muchas gracias 🙏🏻
I wonder if the EG500 has similar quality
Not being the bolt on neck model, I believe it is as good as the EGC600.
I wrote a gicantically long post and lost it by accident. The difference is whatever intrinsic value you put on the instument. Thats all.
That'll be next time, thanks for watching!
Fala Dean!
Considering the feeling, the dynamic range which one do you prefer ?
Gibson.
Thank you ! You said it all. I just sold my Greco for this reason to buy a Gibson. Nothing replace real things
Greco is better
Thanks for watching!
I'm surprised, I like the japanese sound better too. Reminds me of Japanese music of the 70s and 80s and also Santana in the same period.
Greco !
Thanks!
The sound is so compressed with a video, even more so if you listen with your smartphone. In reality, a Gibson has this particular sound that cannot be reproduced on YT. Good demo but which does not demonstrate the difference.
Thanks for watching!
Lawsuit era?
Yes!
@@deanwingerter There was another post from another guitarist that said Gibsons are more expensive because they cost more to make, which is probably true to a degree, but lawsuit guitars were as good, if not better (in this case better) and they were a fraction of the price of name brand guitars, correct if I'm wrong please.
let's get a '59 Les Paul and put it up against an '81 Super real EGF 1800!
That would be a great idea, maybe in a future video, I'll make a note of the suggestion!
Greco es unbelievable. BUT when it comes to “ pedigree “ Gibson will always win 🤷🏻♂️. Gibson has a reputation that makes their instruments hold the value . That’s all .
Thanks for watching!
Hi there, may I ask silly question, where can I fined model number on Greco LP copy?
eBay
The model is usually indicated on a sticker located on the back of the headstock.
@@deanwingerter Hey, Thanks for info, but silly stickers and surface protection is the first thing to get peeled off, no luck for me then....
What model of greco?
EGC900D Made in Japan
Greco used rosewood or ebony?
Rosewood
They sound the same, but which one plays easier?
Greco's polyurethane finish makes it a little difficult to move the hand on the guitar neck, taking this into account I would say that because of the nitro finish Gibson delivers a more comfortable playability.
グレコは、ダンカンが付いてるじゃん。そんな状態で比べちゃいかんよ。オリジナル品で比べないと意味がないことぐらいわからんのか?
Greco has Duncan attached to it. You can't compare them in that situation. Don't you know that it's meaningless unless you compare it with the original product?
My intention was precisely to do what no one set out to do, considering that the pickups are the most important part of the tone in an electric guitar, I wanted to exemplify that in practice the tone wouldn't be that different. I understand and respect your opinion, thank you for watching and commenting! 🙏🏻
All I can see is Gibson has an Ebony fret board, and Greco has Rose wood. They sound very similar.
The difference are very subtle, thanks for watching!
The Gibson sounds fatter, but not by much. For the difference in price, if you’re not too picky go with the Greco.
Thanks for watching! 👍
The les Paul sounded thicker. Shows you the long tenon do not make a difference
Thanks for watching!
Greco 😎
Thanks for watching!
The emblem is centrally fixed between the cover, logo and tuners unlike the Gibson it’s poor from the factory.…. Take a look,.!
Thanks for watching!
Lol i usually don't comment but why would you compare two les pauls one Gibson and the other a greco when neither have the original pickup's in them but they have the same Seymour duncan pickup's no wonder they sound the same just my opinion lol...
The proposal was really this, to demonstrate that wood and hardware do not influence the tone as much as we imagine.
And yet in this particular case I think the Gibson sounded a little bit smoother
So that he is comparing build quality.
@@deanwingerter Ok I see now yeah the test was a good one then.....
It would be nice if you campared Jolana Diamant

I just think Grecos are way cooler
Thanks for watching!
Lol the greco sounded better obviously
I agree, thanks for watching!
Greco is definitely not worse. Yes, in small nuances, the original is a little richer . However, these nuances are tangible , only in the greenhouse conditions of the studio and then on pure sound .. When working live in a club , and even if only distortion - don 't give a fuck at all . By the way.. What is the Greco series? 800 ?
I share the same opinion, at a live show no one can distinguish the difference between tube amplifiers and amp modellers, let alone nuances as subtle as the tone wood. This Greco is an EGC-900D that was originally equipped with a Seymour Duncan pickups.
São os mesmos captadores????
Sim, o mesmo set instalado em ambas.

I felt like the Greco sounded a little thinner. Like an underwound coil.
Wonder if it’s because of the bolt on neck, or maybe older less hot pickups

Those who say that these guitars sound the same - you are really deaf... the most important nuances in the sound are heard. And Gibson is definitely better
You'd be surprised at how the eyes can trick the ears.
Note how the Gibson was always a close up shot?
Seriously, the eyes can trick the ears.
If these two guitars were put through a spectrum analyser, then the differences might be a lot closer than you think.

If it's not Gibson or Epiphone it's not a real Les Paul you can try and twist it all you want the bottom if not a Gibson or Epiphone it's a no go
Absolutely agree the Les Paul guitar was started with Les Paul in the epiphone facility in 1939 into 41 Gibson came years later took what was already done a decade before and expanded on it.. Gibson has become a joke and caught in lie after lie

Gibson has more clarity, more meaty sound, clean and overdriven, better playability too.Greco is ridiciolusly great guitar too i would say strong 80% of Gibson LP custom, overall...

Nearly indistinguishable differences. Minute differences in pickup height, string age, and the way they feel when played could influence the sound. The Greco was slightly more percussive, and the Gibson has a little more clarity of note. Both sound excellent. Great playing too!
