I agree. These are dangerous predators and they will end up killing people. Let the hunters cull the population of prey animals that the great bears would be going after. Environmentalists want to restore habitats as they once were and while its an admirable goal, its just not workable unless you're going to remove the people which ain't happening.

    • @aisa2639

@@minerran Environmentalists are literally anti-Human. If you read articles by some of their leaders you will understand that they view Humanity as a cancer on the Earth. From their perspective, if people are harmed or eaten by Grizzly bears that’s the fault of the people, bonus for the bears. The average Joe Environmentalist does not understand or even hold this evil will, they are just the useful idiots fulfilling the agenda of the truly evil monsters behind the Environmentalist movement.

@minerran Well said. Restoring to what it once was is not realistic because nothing is what it once was. These nut jobs would have dinosaurs reintroduced if it were possible. I'm a solo hiker. I live in the north cascades along the upper Skagit River. We have enough problems here with black bears and have no love whatsoever for the thought of adding Grizzlies to the list of predators that actively hunt people. Grizzly bears will naturally move down from the mountains and live along the outer edge of towns and cities where the opportunities for an easily acquirable meal are more prevalent. Grizzlies have no fear of humans and bear spray doesn’t work on them. There is nothing positive about introducing grizzlies into the north cascades.

    • @minerran
      @minerran หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I don't agree with the plan but let's not muddy the water by making false statements: "Grizzlies have no fear of humans and bear spray doesn’t work on them." On the contrary, bear spray has been shown to be extremely effective and browns do avoid humans. Sows will protect their cubs and all bears will fight for possession of a carcass, including attacks on humans in both cases.

Grizzly bears have a range of 500 SQUARE MILES. If you want to know how grizzlies get along with people watch a few vids on the YT channel Scary Bear Attacks. Grizzlies don't kill you first! They knock you down and just START EATING YOU! So, you'll get to watch yourself as you become the hors d'oeurves and first course of their meal as you scream in horrific pain. If you're lucky you'll bleed out and die while they finish you off or cache your body for a snack later. These people are absolutely insane to think this is in any way a good idea. It may be true that "most" bears avoid humans, but once they have a problem with health or ability to fend for themselves in their normal habitat they WILL go outside of normal behavior and seek out easier meals. Seriously, if you see 3 videos of Scary Bear Attacks which are true stories, and still think it is a good idea - you should have to pitch a tent, live among them and cook over an open fire for six months in Grizzly habitat. This is possibly the WORST IDEA I've ever heard and after the first death to grizzly whoever forced this absurdity should be charged as an accessory to murder and SUED for all they're worth!

When I’m in the forest I haven’t had to fear that I maybe attacked from a grizzly. I don’t agree with the grizzlies being brought into Washington State! So if someone is killed by a grizzly then the State is liable and should be held legally liable.

Whenever people say the numbers are low, i.e. deaths or mauling by bears, they are looking at absolute numbers. But if you look at how many people venture into bear country, that number isn’t so small and if you could potentially be part of that statistic, you really don’t care how small it is.
After watching hundreds of videos of bear attacks, you can’t make the assertion that it is the human’s fault. Many of these attacks happen because of territorial defense, a bear defending its cache, or you stumble onto a Sow with cubs. Other times, it’s a predatory attack, where the bear has been following you just to fucking eat you!
I love and need to be in the great outdoors but I am really reconsidering it now. It doesn’t matter how well prepared you think you might be, there’s always that chance that a viscous bear is out to get you.

First black bears: all cases of bear issues I have seen were due to PEOPLE. There are basic obvious rules: NEVER SURPRISE A BEAR. DO NOT RUN. Leave no food or smelly stuff available to a crafty/strong bear.
Obviously means no bicycles. Over several years it is clear to me that many people REFUSE/neglect to learn and then blame the bear. .
Dont camp in the middle of bear food😂
Do not camp near water or trail. There are quite a few more "donts"😂 that apparently are not readily obvious to campers.
Obviously my safety rules are impossible to follow for hunters. Sorry.
Hiking in groups of 4 is quite safe even in grizzly country if you know what you are doing.

This is such a horrendous idea that not only sets up the local communities and outdoor users to fail, but also the bears. There is zero barriers to grizzly bear natural repopulation from BC and NE Washington and the only reason they are not there is it is less preferred habitat. All ungulates migrate low for the winter, no large populations of moths and grubs exist, or the fisheries that support them elsewhere… so where will they go? Low into the human matrix where they will become problems and be relocated or lethally removed. Did we learn nothing from the recent wolf reintroduction in Colorado? Maybe nature finds its way and we shouldn’t insist and impose our will on it when it comes to apex predators.

Grizzly bears are part of a healthy ecosystem and the North Cascades are very remote. How many of the comments are from people that know griz? I’ve 15+ years in grizzly country in MT. Cattle can be raised anywhere, griz are resisted to very restricted areas.

I like grizzly bears. I think they are magnificent animals. But the fact is rural communities near North Cascades don't want them returned. As disappointing as that is, the feds could still consider other areas in the grizzly bear's former range like the Olympic National Park, Oregon, Colorado, Utah and Northern California for reintroduction.
Forced reintroduction will only create more resentment for bears and for federal government (as if there isn't enough resentment for them already). It doesn't help at all that environmental extremists do abuse the ESA against rural communities.
Also, as much as i love bears, there is a reason its legal to hunt them in Canada, Russia, Finland and the Baltic Republics.

Look at the bright side: more grizzlies = fewer RVers. Frankly I prefer the bears. People degrade nature without any respect/thought. Things have been going downhill markedly since 2020 when I started spending most of my time in nature and hiking in bear country (black bears mostly) but I am learning😂
Ok people do not steal cows😂...but give it a few years...
The North Cascades ... how huge a territory is that?
I may also prefer grizzlies vs herds of wild boars. Ask people in the Pyrenees (France to Spain border). Seems even pros avoid hiking alone in those mountains.
