    My favorite part is attaching the binding by hand. I find it very relaxing as well and it’s my time to enjoy all the hard work that went into the quilt making process.

    I machine bind but this was very informative about using the knots behind the needle eye and at the end of the thread for other applications. Great use of a French knot.

    I've hand bound so many quilts but I still found this video super helpful! The knot on the needle and also the way you finish off when you're out of thread are new to me! Lucky for me I'm literally just off to bind the quilt I started four years ago (😳) - now I'm feeling super excited to get started!

      Four years seems like a perfectly reasonable amount of time to finish a quilt! 🤷 Glad you found some useful tips in the video!

    A. Maz. Ing! I love when I learn something that’s life changing. The knot behind the needle, the way you begin stitching, burying the knot…. ALL of this! Thank you!

    Wonderful video!!! I usually do big stitch binding when I do it by hand, but so many of your tips can be used there too! And I think I may try this way at least once to see how it goes! Thank you!

    Super useful video. I tried machine binding on a few quilts but have gone back to hand binding, it just looks so much nicer and makes for a very final “victory lap” before gifting.

    Excellent tutorial! I finished my first hand binding project a couple of weeks ago and loved it once I figured out how to do it left-handed. For any other lefties Doug Leko from Antler Designs has another excellent tutorial.
    I love the amount of detail you give and that binding bag is gorgeous. Thank you 💗

    Thank you for sharing these tips! I always wondered about how to neatly handle the flap at the mitered corner, and your method makes so much sense. I will also be trying the knot behind the eye of the needle. I hate having to rethread all the time!

    OMG! I loved watching this video! I've been hand binding for a while but I definitely learned some great tips here. My favorite was making the knot at the needle eye. I always lose my threads so this is going to make my life so much easier/happier! And, I'm definitely going to make myself a Goody Goody kit! Thank you so much!

    I saw on your newsletter that you thought this tutorial tanked but no way! The video quality and your instructions are great! I was just going to save it for the next binding project but, in fact, it was really good to watch it ahead of time and now I saved it. I love hand binding and am not even tempted to try a machine method. Although it does get a little challenging with a minky backing. Thanks for the reminder and link to the Goody binding kit. What a great idea to have it handy for all your binding projects.😊

    Great tutorial. I’m sure that your method of threading and securing the thread in your needle, is something that I will be using from now on. Thank you for the tips. I can see how hand sewing your binding can really be a relaxing way of finishing a quilt. It also gives you the confidence that it is securely done. Thanks for this video.

    Excellent video -- thanks so much for your careful, detailed instruction. I just found your channel recently, and I have to confess that I bought a Janome 6700p in part because your praise of the machine was so convincing. 🙂 If you have the time at some future point, I would love a video on how you machine bind your quilts, especially with reference to the 6700p! Thanks!

      Thanks so much for the kind comments! I'm so glad to hear that you've got yourself a fabulous sewing machine (I love my Janome MC 6700P). I'm planning on creating a thorough course on binding that will cover everything from cutting the strips to the finishing stitches (and machine binding will be part of it). Look for it in the future!

    Just curious as I haven't ever used your method of securing the thread with a knot at the needle hole (which looks like an excellent idea and would help me!)....How easy is it to untie that knot when you need to finish off and then start all over again with another length of thread?

  • @janetdinatale9861
    @janetdinatale9861 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I love your videos! You are so meticulous about everything. Just a question, is there a reason why you don’t use a double thread to bind?

    • @matantequilting
      @matantequilting  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! I don't double up my thread when attaching the binding because I don't feel it's necessary. The single thread does a great job and has proven to be durable over many years of use (and washing) quilts in our home. 👍

    Regarding that knot behind the needle....When it is time to finish off that thread and start binding again with another length of thread, how easy is it to untie that knot?

    • @matantequilting
      @matantequilting  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't bother trying to untie the knot - I just cut it off with my small scissors. ✂

    I was looking for an iron video, but got stuck on ur channel. What do quilters do with all the quilts quilters make? Hi from Winnipeg btw.

    • @matantequilting
      @matantequilting  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! I mostly stack them up in cupboards in my living room! 😆 We use a few of them on the couch (and rotate through a set of them seasonally), but I make a lot of quilts "just for fun".
