    Hey Mac Plastering, I had a go at my first way a few weeks ago, once it dried I found that the render became really powdery. I used a 4 to 1 mix and I was told to use a little washing up liquid as a plastersiezer….. I am guessing that this is what has coursed it, unless you can think of anything else. Its that bad when I try to sponge it down it starts to remove the material even after a few weeks of drying

    • @macplastering
      @macplastering  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      what depth / thickness did you have it buddy ?
      what type of sand did you use ?
      how much soap per water /per litre ?
      what where you rendering over
      outside inside ?
      weather ?
      sorry for all these questions but it might be able to get me a solution for you mate

    • @gmeadowcroft84
      @gmeadowcroft84 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thx for the reply Mac,
      I did it about 1to 2cm
      I used sharp sand
      about a teaspoon of washing up liquid to 42 L full of mix, I didn’t measure the water as I just added till I got the consistency I wanted.
      It was clay bricks but I scratch coated it first with with a 4 to 1 mix that was fine. I then Used PVA and water mix to help with the suction and the wall was slightly tacky before I put the floating coat on
      It was outside and the weather was over cast

    • @macplastering
      @macplastering  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gmeadowcroft84 The main thing i would say would be you should go weaker as the coats come on say if you 1st coat 3 to 1 then next coat is 4 to 1 I would also say wet it down before the next coat as brick can suck water in like crazy at times a water proffer in the 1st coat would also help the next coat , slow down its setting time , plastering is all about timings can be hard to get it but it might also have set a little before you go on to it witch could have made those dusty burn mark and powder surface , if it dries to quick can cause it to happen ,its a real pain, Hope these ideas help you mate will try do a live stream and talk more on it during the week if you fancy it

    • @gmeadowcroft84
      @gmeadowcroft84 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be awesome Mac and I'd appreciate that a lot. The scratch coat had 3 to 4 days to dry but that rings true to be fair the floating coat did set rather quick. But i was eager for it to, to be fair as i felt is was going to rain... I have another raid size wall to have ago at so I'll try and use then thought you have passed on

    • @macplastering
      @macplastering  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gmeadowcroft84 Will try get a live stream about it all mate It is hard to put times on render and plaster as so much makes it dry diffrent understanding the background and the suction /timings is a big part but the more you do the more you will understand it
