Ice piled up on the loop on lake Ontario, Oswego, NY. Sometime as high as 30' and the breakwater completely encased in ice. And that is an average normal winter.

That is really interesting. I never heard it called average. Thanks for watching!

When I saw Hoaks restaurant on Lake Erie in the video, I immediately wanted a roast beef on weck or Buffalo Chicken sandwich from there, yummy!

39 foot waves, and a possible 45' rogue wave may have been the culprit.

I don’t think the Great Lakes are capable of even close to 100 footers

Given the fact that lake Erie can produce waves of over 25 ft in water that is an average dept of 50 with the right conditions and wind. It's not hard to believe that lake superior can get a 100 ft wave. But the wave it self may only be 50 or 60 ft with the 40 ft lake water rise. Kind of like a tide

35 to 37 foot rogue waves, known as the Three Sisters is one possible explanation of how the Fitz sank. The Arthur M Anderson had met those waves before the Fitzgerald did, but the Anderson wasn’t in trouble and sinking at the time, so it was able to shake them off. The Fitz, unfortunately, couldn’t.
