I am reading "William Tecumseh Sherman: In the Service of My Country" by James Lee McDonough, and he didn't seem very fond of Lancaster, at least not in the pre-Civil war years. (an excellent book, but the way) I am only up to the Atlanta Campaign, so I don't know how he felt after the war. I know he lived in NYC in retirement and was buried in St. Louis. As far as some of these pro-traitor comments below, Sherman was only trying to end the war as quickly as possible by ending the rebel's ability to wage war. He probably saved a lot of southern lives. A little known fact, is that before the war, he was the first head of the college that is now called Louisiana State University. He resigned when it became apparent that Louisiana was going to secede.
Sherman focused on destroying the logistical support of front line troops - like USAAF strategic bombing in WWII. Sherman didn't rape anybody & didn't target women and children

I had to read that book to pass 6th grade. I live in Lancaster so I had to learn all about him and visit his house for school.

My Great Great Grandpa served in the Pennsylvania cavalry during the Civil War so I'm glad the South - who started the war to protect slavery - lost
