For those that dont know the story starts with David Bowie’s “Space Oddity”. In that one, Major Toms ship suffers difficulty and loses communication with ground control. This song is a continuation to give a possible ending. In this one, Major Tom has been up so long, gone mad, and he believes he belongs there. When he recconects with ground control, he tells them bye and cuts off communication.
I first heard this song as the cover by Shiny Toy Guns. It became one of my favorite songs. Then I found out about this original version, and I love it even more now!

As a young guy about 17, i had the radio on really low I was waking up from an afternoon nap. I awoke to the last verse "Earth below us, drifting falling", etc. I thought to myself... "what is that? such a beautiful song to awake to."
There's an ethereal euphoria to this chorus that on paper shouldn't work quite as well as it does. As a bit of a rhythm and syncopation guy myself, it surprises me just how much I feel from simple half notes throughout the chorus.
I don't even remember why, but this song was playing in my head all morning. Had to hear it. Loved this song when it came out. Always put me in a good mood.

This song really sticks in my head because a military pilot who was a friend of mine was killed when his jet crashed into a mountain due to mechanical issues and that is about the time this song came out. R.I.P. Cpt Gary.
I’ll never forget that time when it was 10 pm And my family were driving home and this came on followed by everybody wants to rule the world. It was so surreal cruising down the highway at night with the lights poles flying by.
OMG. I love this song. It's perfect. I worked at NASA and every time a Shuttle launched, we stopped work. Went to the conference rooms with the video monitors with the feed from NASA, we watched it. It was always for us. A little part of it.
Thank You! What we miss. The Space Shuttle. I only did a little thing. I supported the astronauts when they went with their laptops from Houston to Kennedy in Florida. I tried to make it easier for them.

my dad and i used to listen to this song as a kid. he always had a way of explaining story lines and making them so interesting. i was fascinated by this astronaut and what happened to him. i remember us listening to this in the kitchen once, i was probably 4 or 5, and he told me to call into the radio station and request the song. i was too scared and told him to, but he said it would be cuter if it came from me. i ended up being too scared to call. anyway, years later, when i was probably 14, this song came on my dads tv music channel. he used to listen to it when he cleaned and stuff. he came to get me out of my room or wherever i was and was like 'hey, come here', and took me into his room where this song was playing. we both just kind of smiled because years later, we both thought of each other whenever we heard this song. i miss him every day. this is the one song i refuse to buy on my iPod and almost never listen to it aside from the radio, because i don't want to wear it out.

I spoke half ass German for a little bit but I can enjoy a lot of songs without knowing what they’re saying. Today I can pick out words but both songs have their merits.

I need someone to read this: I've been depressed for a long time. Just took schrooms. Coming down from it, so now I'm lucid.
