For those that dont know the story starts with David Bowie’s “Space Oddity”. In that one, Major Toms ship suffers difficulty and loses communication with ground control. This song is a continuation to give a possible ending. In this one, Major Tom has been up so long, gone mad, and he believes he belongs there. When he recconects with ground control, he tells them bye and cuts off communication.
and the sad part is that it ends with "ashes to ashes" also by Bowie

There's an ethereal euphoria to this chorus that on paper shouldn't work quite as well as it does. As a bit of a rhythm and syncopation guy myself, it surprises me just how much I feel from simple half notes throughout the chorus.
Plenty of stereo width, layered vocals and reverb helps with that epic moody airiness ..soo good

my dad and i used to listen to this song as a kid. he always had a way of explaining story lines and making them so interesting. i was fascinated by this astronaut and what happened to him. i remember us listening to this in the kitchen once, i was probably 4 or 5, and he told me to call into the radio station and request the song. i was too scared and told him to, but he said it would be cuter if it came from me. i ended up being too scared to call. anyway, years later, when i was probably 14, this song came on my dads tv music channel. he used to listen to it when he cleaned and stuff. he came to get me out of my room or wherever i was and was like 'hey, come here', and took me into his room where this song was playing. we both just kind of smiled because years later, we both thought of each other whenever we heard this song. i miss him every day. this is the one song i refuse to buy on my iPod and almost never listen to it aside from the radio, because i don't want to wear it out.

OMG. I love this song. It's perfect. I worked at NASA and every time a Shuttle launched, we stopped work. Went to the conference rooms with the video monitors with the feed from NASA, we watched it. It was always for us. A little part of it.

The seventies and eighties were the best! It can't be explained. There was a innocence and wholesomeness to it all. I would give anything for those days and I wish we could go back. The future was an adventure that we all could grasp, everything was new and amazing.

True true. Bringing all the songs I’ve been listening to for year to the table. So many of these songs are so close to my heart and I love them. It’s amazing that shows like that are chose if some classic older songs showing people new sides of music and giving a deeper appreciation for our past.
I mean, Gerard Way is involved, as the original creator. I'm not shocked that the music choices are always so on-point. Not shocked, but also never disappointed.
