    Timestamps:
    0:00 Michael's greeting
2:32 first listen (1st verse and chorus). sick Michael riff at 4:16!
5:03 chord progression breakdown. vi-I-V-#Vdim-vi which equals F#m-A-E-E#dim-F#m
7:59 second listen (listening to melody)
9:06 intro guitar jangle (triads on thinnest strings), with additional talk about the dim chord
10:24 melody. the blue note = flat 5 in minor; flat 3 in relative major. this note is teased heavily in the vocal run just before return to the "one".
14:24 Michaels advice if you're covering this song: importance of that bass note (in the E#dim), once more! it's not simply a C#7.
15:30 bass and melody in unison - and why it sounds so good. great example of the bass licks / bassline played by Michael here (1-3-5-6 in each chord).
17:43 solo breakdown! f#m pentatonic. "we are in A major pattern 4 here." on the F#msus that ends the guitar solo. listens to rest of song playing along.
25:36 song ends, Michaels overall reaction. brief pitch for his course...
26:54 final takeaways about this song: chord progression + melody summary.
I put these together after watching this for the second time, in an attempt to understand the music theory concepts surrounding the diminished chord. Hope they’re helpful! Signed up for guitar gate when I finished bc of how helpful this video is. Thanks Michael!

🔥🔥🔥 Just so you know not everyone is a guitarist in here, well you probably know that 🤣. The 1st time I ever heard this song I literally had to run upstairs and grab my Bluetooth speaker and rewind with the volume as loud as I. Plus and finish it. Seriously was floored, amped, chills, hairs standing up on my arms, amazed and every other emotion you can feel when your are blessed to hear something as amazing as this. I have always wanted to play guitar, when you talk about all the cords and keys all I hear is nuclear science talk 😂. But I truly cannot get enough of everyone on TH-cam that does what you do. A lot of my time is spent on watching anything to do with guitars, from you, Lemmo at Norms, Trogly, Max, Daryl Braun, Rhett Shull, yes he is the man, and everyone in between. Thank you !🙏

As a "since 1977" guitar player (still playing and recording in L.A.) I really value dudes like you. Willing to film this kind of exploration and breakdown of a song's structure in a guitar context. I hear a song like this and think in my head, "Oh, I get it" without really putting in any legwork. Trust me, I have songs that I obsess about and research and learn note-for-note, but I love your smart, fast, accurate assessment of a tune. I watched this while holding my guitar (which I would recommend if you would like to retain any of the lesson) Watched all 29:20, but I'm 55 and don't really do the SUBSCRIBE thing so I'm hoping my well-written endorsement compensates. Keep this shit up!

I got to see Black Pumas in San Francisco in Sept 2019 a couple weeks after I stumbled over them on YT. Their show was an excellent from beginning to end. Their guitarist, Adrian Quesada, has serious cred in the funk/soul scene and even has some past association Prince, as I recall. According to lore, the singer was a street busker in Austin before being introduced to him.

Watching you review Colors is equally entertaining with your enthusiasm and your skill/talent at picking up the nuances that make the guitar playing of Colors so captivating. Honestly, I don't understand much when you get into the details of the notes/cords/5ths/3rds etc but I did understand using the E# to transition from the E to the F# (or at least I think I understood you lol). Great commentary Michael! Just subscribed. Awesome to see someone so enthusiastic about music and have the knowledge to elaborate on composition. This song got stuck in my ear hole when I heard it a few m onths back, which meant I had to learn it. I typically will make my best attemp to learn by ear, then surf around and see what others are doing. This solo on this song is a bit out of my league, but I put some effort into that too, love this hit. The whole albumn is fanastic.

I have no idea what language you’re speaking when you start talking about the minors and the fifths and thirds and everything, but how you can just listen and start plucking along in perfect key is impressive to watch. Keep on keepin on man 🤘🏼👍🏼

nice channel man! I like how to analyse the whole song and not just the guitar part. Knowing what the bass and vocals are doing is also very important
