I suspect people who buy a long range EV probably won't be doing that range, but more to the point do not want to be stuck either looking for, or, waiting for chargers. That is of course if the charger is working at all or being blocked by an ICE car.
BYD drilled a hole through their battery without fire 2 years ago - Geely drilled 8 holes at the same time through their battery without fire this year
Yes these blade LFP batteries are very safe
Taking my Kia Picanto from Brisbane to Melbourne and back over Christmas
brave man!
@@grumpyoldmanandhisev atleast I will not have to worry about charging issues (broken chargers, other ev owners hogging chargers charging to 100%) like my last Christmas trip in my Ioniq 28 EV that was stressful as hell !
I know a lot of people who would consider that to be a form of insanity. Good on you - it will work fine. Mind you the same naysayers say the same about driving an EV - that would also work, at least ok!
Yes, I agreed that there should be small EVs, (the size of Yaris) with say 300 km range. I am looking for one for ease of parking. Due to my disability as a left foot only driver
You might not get 300km range - mid to lower 200kms would be more likely.
As it is only me, a small affordable EV would suit me as I don't do road trips and only drive short distances. The three small EVs currently available don't appeal to me. If I had to take one right now, it would be the BYD Dolphin. Also, I am fortunate that I would be able to recharge at home, so fast charging is not important to me. I do realize many people do not have the option of home charging; therefore, fast charging is important to them. I am looking forward to the Renault 5 Etech, but it will not be affordable.
Yes unfortunately there are no really affordable (ie
Australia needs small, affordable hatchbacks like the BYD Seagull.
Agreed
Geely needs to be bold and price point, if not undercut, FWD RAV4s - $42K to $52K drive away. Would like to think battery costs will have dropped sufficiently by then that such pricing becomes viable.
Low to mid $40K price point would be a game changer
Thanks Nigel.
Agreed we need a smaller urban EV close to $30K or under it. That would really help to grow the uptake which seems to be stuck around the 8% mark. Increasing 2nd market will help but we need that smaller car.
Under $30K would be really nice but I cant see it happening soon unfortunately
I've just moved from South Africa to Australia, I think by next year you could get an EV new for 30k or cheaper brand new
Would be good if it happened
The MG4 got a big price cut just over $30k
@@trishanchetty5791 According to the MG Australia website the Excite 51 (their cheapest MG4) is still around $40k?? Are you referring to the MG ZS EV Excite which is now $34,990 drive away??
@@trishanchetty5791 Yes it does look like it has just been cut to $30,990
Geely wants to compete against Toyota in the Australian market.
And in the EV world it will wipe the floor with them!
Yeah nah. Nothing special. 😢
depends on the price - if its $35K or less it might catch on
