Here is a budget idea for wedding party proposals! I went to the thrift store and found them picture frames that matched each person's aesthetic. Inside, I write out a little note that said, "I couldn't picture my day without you!" Then, after the wedding, I can gift them the photo of us to put in the frame.

Agree on all points. I asked everyone who would be offended if I didn’t do my confidence. One turned it down for financial reasons and we are still on great terms because I understand. So I have now have an equal number of bridesmaids to groomsmen. With her it would have been one more.

I so love your ideas on being more reasonable in regard to the wedding planner and wedding. I found your channel when looking for information on favors, so many of them are just thrown out and I have seen thrift store mugs as a take home and then the rest go back to a thrift, such a great idea. Going into the event with obligation on any side is not healthy. Another thing is that you do not have to invite children. Instead of the gifts back it off of expenses. We have a wedding venue near us, we cringe each time. Each event they do not consider parking and guests block fire lanes, alleyways, driveways and even get locked into gated lots. What is obvious to the event people may not be obvious to guests. In our case police and ticketing is often involved. Anything outside becomes litter so sparklers are found in landscaping, found by pets and in car tires. We are still finding gold confetti from three years ago. We often find monogramed things in the trashcans and our landscaping. People will carry it out-then toss it. Whole bouquets and even food is tossed onto storm drains or behind landscaping, think rats. BTW love your ideas on the suits, would also work for bridesmaid dresses, so considerate of all involved and I will share this on recycling pages. Goodwill has online options which might make it easier to find them. The other day out looking for gardening pots I found racks of Ballews/Memphis TN wedding dresses new with tags, also bridesmaid and short/long formals/prom dresses at a 'Discount Store'. $50 brand new wedding dresses, do some hunting, let me know if you want the contact information for this place. We love to enjoy a good wedding but to be honest investing in pre-marital counseling and full health physicals is a better investment in the long-term health of the marriage.

Hannah McCormick It's not like that in all American weddings. But in my "half American" wedding we paid for the dresses. (There were just two. As you can see I'm not American by birth so I didn't want an all-out American wedding to begin with.)

Slightly mean thing to say but I think it applies to your point that people aren't going to change personalities just because you got engaged...no one cares about your engagement as much as you and your partner do. Doesn't make them selfish or bad people to have, just don't expect to show some bridezilla behavior and people tolerate it.

    • @Southamericangirl42

Although I married an American 32 years ago I planned our wedding less American style and thus saved us a boatload of money. (The only American "things" were him, his friends, the rings and the invitations.) My mother (being a semi-professional seamstress) made my dress and I bought shoes I could definitely wear again. So I had the wiggle room to pay for her dress and my dad's suit. There was a lot of pretty and delicious diy-ing and all in all I think we stayed well under $1750. You really don't need all the OTT stuff. (Considering that by the end of the 20th century 60% of all marriages ended in divorce, shouldn't we be re-thinking how we wed and spend more time etc on the marriage?)

  • @stephanielfagan
    @stephanielfagan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +49

#9: You don't have to have a wedding party at all! ♥️ We are not having a wedding party because why bother defining roles? I don't want to put that added responsibility on people. I can still "get ready with my girls" if I want to without having them stress over a dress and standing up there with me. Sounds uncomfortable and unnecessary.

    • @phackdaphish

I decided to not have a bridal party after my cousin's wedding. After being a bridesmaid a few times, I figured I was just a picture filler. I could be doing better things on the morning of the wedding than waiting around for picture taking. I told my best cousin and long time friends that I'm not having bridesmaids. They were disappointed but l just don't want to waste their time and I really want to be alone and just with my sister before my wedding.

Also another myth: your MOH has to plan your bachelorette. I LOVE planning trips and I also have a slight issue with relinquishing control over a day that matters so much to me. So I took the responsibility of planning all the details of my bachelorette party but I included my MOH in building the Pinterest board for inspiration. This allowed her to be involved but not responsible which took stress off her too.

For my cousin’s wedding (which is the best wedding I’ve ever been to) she had two official bridesmaids but then like 5 other “girl gang” members, we all wore blue dresses but they were slightly less fancy than the BMs. The groom only had one man, and it was the bride’s step father. He was great, the whole wedding was great even though it basically was all 90% planned and put in place in less than two weeks. 😅

Hello, I thought I'd share a "wedding party" idea! Just like in Jamie's video, we had budget concerns (not only for us but didn't want to burden members), an unbalanced number on each side (2:5), fiancé also wanting just us two at the alter and sweetheart table, drama, etc. We thought up a few plans like the ones Jamie mentioned (get your own attire, one line procession that circles around to sit, etc). I brought up possibly forgoing the wedding party to my planner but also mentioned my lingering feelings of wanting to get ready with company and taking wedding party photos. She suggested having "VIP guests" as an option whom we would invite for lunch/tea time during getting ready hours and take group photos with before the ceremony without stressing about what to do "formally" for the wedding. We still haven't decided but we're thinking of doing that with one MoH and Best Man to help with my bouquet, dress, and rings.

Her first tip was the reason my parents decided a month out of my wedding to not pay for what they had already committed to pay for and that included the venue and a couple other vital aspects that we couldn’t afford(and they knew that) 😒😠. I’m not bitter at all. It didn’t make a difference though, we eloped with just our daughter and we’re having a vow renewal now that we’ve been married for 10years.

Thank you for breaking the gender role myth for the bride & groom! I'm having both bridesmaids & bridesmen. There was once a bride who had 22 bridesmaids & while she had some of them at the alter with her & the other were standing on both sides of the aisle as Biblical Bridesmaids holding lantern to light the way for the wedding procession. Can society also stop telling brides it's all about them & that's their day when the fact of the matter is their wouldn't be a wedding in the 1st place if the groom hadn't proposed? It's the groom's day too & the wedding industry & society gases up so many brides then acts offend or put off when they turn into bridezillas. I am so glad you tell the truth when it comes to wedding planning

I had two sets of sisters (no relation to me) who are super important to me and had an influence on my husbands and my relationship (our pastor's daughters were openly rooting for us to get married before we even started dating). They were too old for flower girls and too young for bridesmaids so we made them hostesses. We gave them mis-matched lace dresses in the same colors as the flowers, matching hair combs to wear however they liked, and put them in charge of greeting, ushering, helping with dessert, helping the camera folk, making the dance floor rock, and general fun. They were happy to be involved and certainly made the day run smoothly. You don't need hostesses, but it's a nice way to honor people who don't fit smoothly into another, more typical, position.

I'm from Brazil and it's very interisting to notice the differences between the ceremony styles, like, the bridesmaids and groomsmen sit through the whole ceremony, they do not stand next to the bride and groom. And it's not a common thing to make them use a matching color or color palette, although it is becoming a trend recently... Other thing is, I never went to a wedding that has seating charts, the guests always sit wherever they want, the only reserved table is the family's table. The toast is not made by friends and family, the bride and groom give a quick speech and them everybody toasts and it's done!

On the point in matching outfits or not, we are having our ‘maids match for dresses but not accessories and our ‘men match ties but wear whatever suit they already have as long as it’s black.
On special people not being included, my fiancé has 3 brothers and I have one. Neither of us have sisters, so we decided friends only for the bridal party since balance was important to us. Besides, most of our brothers are very shy and not good in front of people, so the less unwanted attention the better.
Also my fiancé wanted one of his best friends to be a groomsman, but this guy is in the military and doesn’t have his schedule nailed down yet (he’s still in training). We’re still not sure if this friend will be able to make it at all, but he still very special to us.
Lastly, on gifts: We decided to not get proposal gifts and instead are going to give more meaningful and hopefully useful gifts at our Bachelor(ette) parties. As for how I asked, I asked my MoH in person while we were hanging out one day and my two bridesmaids on the phone since they live farther away. My fiancé did something similar.

About the second point: I was a bridesmaid for my uncle at age 5! They had to bribe me with lollipops to keep me still. I was super cute in my little pink dress, though!

Nice ideas I don't think having a grandma as a bridesmaid would work like at the wedding sure but like going to the strip club getting drunk for the party before hand don't see you wanting her to be there for that

I agree on all of it! I would love to hear your thoughts on family in the wedding party. My fiancé and I had the discussion on the beginning decided not to include siblings and then less than 90 days before the wedding a little birdie made a comment to his mom that 'family is typically is in wedding parties' and his sister ends up in the WP anyway. 🤪 🤣

I was the best woman at my brothers wedding. It was a last minute step in, but he confided that he wanted to do that in the beginning but he didn’t know you could have groomswomen (men & weddings lol) I was Sooo excited and our family/friends loved it, they were like “duh...y’all are two peas in a pod”.

We had 2 groomsmen and 5 bridesmaids 3 of which were mine or my husband’s sisters. Each of our sisters have a son (our nephews we love so much) so we had them each walk down with them. It was soooo sweet. And since they were 8,6 and 2 we just had them sit down for the rest of the ceremony.

I'm already married but I still enjoy watching your videos and I agree with so much of this. Our groomsmen had mismatching suits (just told them all to buy a medium grey, looked beautiful in photos!).
There were definitely some friends I still wanted apart of the day but we did not want a large bridal party so I asked other super close friends to do readings for us/ stand in as ushers to walk my mom, grandma and dog down the aisle. Haha.

In most of the weddings I've been too, there's been more bridesmaids than best men/groomsmen. Typically, there's one man standing with the groom, while there's usually multiple bridesmaids. The only exception was a genuinely tiny wedding, with one bridesmaid and a best man. However, that could be a cultural thing here.

i know you said age doesnt matter within a bridal party, but do you think it'd be odd if there's like an odd person out? my fiance and i each decided on a maid of honor and a best man and 4 bridesmaids and 4 groomsmen. my maid of honor is 18, one bridesmaid is 19, one is 18, and one is 17. By the wedding my maid of honor will be 19, and ill have a 20 year old, 19 year old, and 18 year old bridesmaid. I want to include my cousin but my cousin is 36. She's already a very self conscious person bc she's plus sized, do you think she'd feel like she sticks out as a 36 year old bridesmaid next to a bunch of teenagers, and is there a way to make her blend in so she wouldn't feel like she sticks out?

I don't know if you've addressed this already, but I have an etiquette question. My best friend and I are engaged at the same time. I want to ask her to be my MOH but I don't know if that's rude or presumptive to ask because she is planning her own wedding too. I'm not in her wedding in an official capacity as far as I know, because I think she's planning something really low-key and casual. I don't want to burden her with extra work but she is my best friend in the world and I'd be happy to help her with hers, too, but I'm fine with respecting it if she doesn't want to do it. I just don't want her to feel pressured into saying yes.

Am I the only one that never thought the bride picks all the girls and the groom all the guys? I've always thought it was a beautiful blend of your support systems. Oh man- the Martha Stewart thing: when did bridal parties go from "Yes I will be at your bachelorette & keep you calm the morning off & be your personal Barbie doll." to "You have to help me pick colors, go to dress fittings, make placecards, etc."???

    👏 👏 Great tips!
We're having 2 maids of honor, 1 best man, 1 ring bearer, 3 flower girls & 2 super Jr bridesmaids. 😁 It's going to be great.
I was going to have my sisters as my bridesmaid's but they're already going to be part of everything and we're already all bridesmaid for my other sisters wedding so I decided to keep my party small and just incorporate my nieces, nephew and God Daughters.

Girl, I so agree on everything you said, and almost did all these things in our wedding. We had a Harry Potter themed wedding back on Halloween. Bridesman and groomswoman, dresses didn't match (just the same color and fabric), it turned out to be cold on the wedding day so the girls wore black wizard cloaks over their dresses to stay warm. Proposal boxes cost less than $20 each (was food and a cute note) and their thank you gifts were around $25 each (accessories to wear, note, alcohol) all Harry Potter themed so they loved it. I also want to add that you don't have to wear a white dress. I wore a amethyst color gown, which was a pink/purple/ivory color that changed colors depending on the lighting, and I got so many compliments. It was a work of art and a true reflection of my personality. We did so many unique things at our wedding and do not regret it one bit. Brides, do what you want to do!

Hi Jamie, as covid is still a very real thing and still all look uncertain, I would (and I think other brides) like some guidance on "covid contingency planning" in the form of a Jamie video! What are some of the options (even though those are ever changing), how to address it, what to do it you don't want to replan, etc. You're channel has taught me so much and given me so much guidance already, thAnk you!!!

We've rented an airbnb for our wedding. It's a large house with a yard. We'll be having 50ish guests and the vibe is very casual. But I'm struggling with ideas for how I can decorate the inside of the house to make it look a little fancier. Tips for a backyard/airbnb wedding would be awesome. I know you have a video on the bigger aspects of it, but decorating is where I'm lost.
