OK, so we were originally going to put up decorative/rustic Timber Trusses by using Pine wood wrapped in Cedar boards as we were trying to save money. HOWEVER, after finding out is was cheaper to get Douglas Fir Timbers cut and shipped from Canada it was a no brainer to use the Fir!!!! Watch as the building team creates the beautiful Trusses from a pile of huge Timbers.
No joinery ?? Did I miss something ?? That looked like tacked together with screws ?? A stiff wind will sheer those apart and in comes the elements. But I might have missed something.
nope, what you saw was it...
Was thinking the same thing. I always use mortise and tenons on these along with hardwood pegs or bolts through them depending on what’s needed. No sheer strength in screws
Yip , they should have been tenoned together, the guys just wasted that timber .. They will need to plate and bolt it now.. That was a shame to see..
No joinery. Sad, and likely dangerous structure.
Wow... massive beams. Looking good.
Damn, nice work!
Roger that! Thank you! They are beautiful!

I bet he would have loved it when he was cutting these! Although not sure how often he actually does trusses like this! Thanks
Gotta love the Def Leppard playing in the background!
Man I love seeing the updates. We are still working on the driveway and utilities. One step at a time.
Yes, it seems painfully slow when you've been dreaming about it, planning for it, working for it, paying & debting for it....! But enjoy each 'little' success!
I don't care how good or careful you are.. those are NOT the right tools to cut those large beams... I would have said don't touch my beautiful Doug Fir until you get the right tools for large beam cutting...
I'm with ya. And butt joints? WTF? Doug Fir deserves real M and T joints. Naive owners? Certainly have the bucks and taste for Doug Fir. Too bad
Beautiful what size wood is this?
Sorry I don't recall the excat dimensions?
You should sand & oil them while they are on the ground! Much easier! Vinny
mmanut yeah, we're looking at our options... We're leaning towards no stain leaving it as is.
How they look is less important than they hold the most extreme loads.
What is the pitch and length? Thanks
nice job. get off your knees, buy a beam saw guys . othetwise nice job retired custom builder
For a first time build I'd say it went pretty well overall! Thank you
Hopefully your making a video for hoise trusses??

LOOKING GOOD KAP..ARE YOU GOING TO GUIDE SERVICE FOR HUNTING?
No, not planning on it. Just might have a guest/kid every now and then.
Y do they have to be so Big
They don’t, but it all depends on your project
heavy??? tell them u could have order oak lol
I can't believe you are using such large timbers for faux beams... WHAT A WASTE!
