If WWE kept continuity, carefully structured characteristics and got stories growing from organic interactions, the product would be great for everyone who loves good stories. No doubt about it. Its also clear that unless something dramatic changes quickly- they definitely DON'T have a better idea for this storyline than Cody winning at Mania would have been. Even the Seth AJ match is silly. Because the title was created specifically as a consolation prize belt for Raw ....and AJ is on SMACKDOWN... its RIDICULOUSLY easy to see that Seth is winning. If I was guessing a reason they’ll eventually give that would make sense (I guess) is that Brock got paid to take Cody out of commission to prevent him from being in the MITB and getting a rematch. Brock did it because he works for the highest bidder and has no emotional attachment to things outside of who gives the biggest check (which is pretty much who the dude actually is). Maybe Cody does this fight like a doofus, gets injured worse, and gets told some absurd time frame to return and laments losing his chance for MITB. And then he disappears until shockingly he recovers and enters the match and wins and beat the adversity. That would make sense to me out of all this. Is that what it is? Probably not and as each week goes by it becomes more and more dread that there isn’t a good reason for any of it

Then the new World Title, which will be exclusive to Raw, is decided between a Raw guy and a Smackdown guy, who by the way would've been a great challenger for Reigns, 7 years after they last fought. Or Reigns could've fought Rollins, the guy he's never beaten, or Lashley, another strong challenger for his title who's doing nothing of note currently. The Raw Womens Champion and Smackdown Womens Champion are carrying on as normal even though they're on the opposite shows as the color-coded titles they carry. And then the United States and Womens Tag Team Titles don't even get decided and instead are put on free TV while two non-title matches happen instead at a show called Night of Champions. So you have 2 world titles and 1 Universal title( makes no sense) as the main belts. WHAT? At least if Cody was champion you would have an obvious reason for this. Without it, you've just got 2 of your biggest names fighting....for what exactly?

Meanwhile, the "Undisputed" WWE Universal Champion, on the verge of his landmark 1000th day as champion, isn't even defending his title on the pivotal Day 999 of his reign and is instead challenging for the Tag Team Titles. They couldn't have Roman's titles also on the line in the tag match to add more intrigue? Then the new World Title, which will be exclusive to Raw, is decided between a Raw guy and a Smackdown guy, who by the way would've been a great challenger for Reigns, 7 years after they last fought. Or Reigns could've fought Rollins, the guy he's never beaten, or Lashley, another strong challenger for his title who's doing nothing of note currently. The Raw Womens Champion and Smackdown Womens Champion are carrying on as normal even though they're on the opposite shows as the color-coded titles they carry. And then the United States and Womens Tag Team Titles don't even get decided and instead are put on free TV while two non-title matches happen instead at a show called Night of Champions. I get Brock v. Cody and Becky v. Trish are big marquee matches, but why have a show called Night of Champions if all your titles aren't going to be defended on it? It's enough to make your head spin.

You have Roman, the top dog with 2 main titles who ran through everyone more than once chasing tag titles with his cousin. Then you have a WHC title that supposed to carry the same lineage as the one from 2013 or so. So that too, is the main title. So you have 2 world titles and 1 Universal title( makes no sense) as the main belts. WHAT?
Cody returns to WWE after a hiatus, goes on the injured list for nearly a year, have big matches, fails at beating Roman which would have been his "finish the story" bit, then gets beaten up for weeks by Brock, beats Brock, now injured again is gonna have to fight Brock again and probably a 3rd time after NOC and then go after Roman's titles again? Or will there be another bump in the road? They should have put the titles on Cody at Mania, lose them to Brock at NOC and win them back at a tv show weeks later. Then have Roman chase the tag titles, win them, then go after the WHC. The 3 title thing is dumb.

Cody as champion is one pop. Cody trying to win the title for nearly 2 years gets you a pop every month. It sells a lot of tickets. Gets more people talking.
