An inexpert suggestion from a random guy who's never made cake art: pour hot white chocolate over the egg to hide the bumps under a smooth coating then gently apply texture after it mostly sets.
Here is a fun and challenging idea; try making a realistic cake (any shape) but 100% vegan!
