Spot on. I always use front and rear camera/lights. I chose Cycliq as together with fittings they about 300g to the bike and have all the features you need - including a nice overlay system on recordings showing where 1.5m is in regard to the centre of the bike. Add in a Garmin with radar and you have GPS location of any incident, with speed of vehicle too if needed.
I must say since I have been using the light/cameras I've noticed traffic in general seems less 'aggressive'.

BTW - as of 2024, in England close passing is not specifically illegal, but there are laws that it is linked to (i.e. careless driving) that the driver can be charged with for close passing. The distance is also variable dependant on speed (1m at 20mph; 1.5m at 30mph; etc.)

I once tested Le Col's original foul weather jersey by going out in a storm. The weather was so bad that when I met my dad at the cafe halfway, the cast iron chairs outside were getting blown over in the gale force winds and my dad turned to me to say 'think you best get a lift home, son'. Up until that point, the jersey did it's job in keeping me warm and dry.

Pas normal is very expensive. But their sale prices are decent. I have two of their escapism bibs, got them for 135€ (in stead of the normal 270€) and they're the best bibs I've ever owned. But PNS also sells simple jerseys that aren't special in any way for 200+€ so I do agree they're expensive and not exceptional if you consider the entire brand. Same goes for rapha. But there is always something on sale :)

Ive used all Rapha, MAAP and PNS along side random brands here and there. The MAAP bibs seems to wear super quickly compared to the PNS / Rapha ...especially on the contact points to the saddle. PNS bibs have lasted much longer and fit my body down there better (their jerseys are also alot shorter than others which dont bunch up around your tummy). So if you buy them on promotion, the cost differential is mitigated, and you get kit that fits.

One thing they didn't touch on during the Pas Normal Studios segement is this; just becuase they use similar fabrics and MFG as Pas Normal doesn't mean they're the same as their own brand. Each brand is spending different amounts of time desiging the product, honing in the product development, working with the factories to dial in the fit, and quality assurance. These variables differ between each brand and their respective design teams which could mean hundreds of man-hours difference between each jersey between brands.
Just because they use similar fabrics and have cross over in vendors does not make their products the same as any other brand.

I absolutely agree about the cycling press and the bias they have, I think it’s finally being talked about more and more, and more people are listening but…. And it s big but… this channel sits there’s and shits on brands for their prices but ignores things like after sales/ free repairs/ grassroots sponsorship(rapha) and the big one marketing!! Yes that’s right you’re paying for them to sponsor those athletes and influencers (like Cade media) and make all that content that’s lapped up. I can’t help but laugh at these types of comments when they’re part of the very reason these products are overpriced.

Jimmy sometimes comes across as very bitter about the cycling clothing industry. I guess his experience of trying to breakthrough wirh Attacus was not a positive one. But look, premium cycling products are not purely about fabrics as he well knows - there is the design/look of the thing, the form & fit (very important), features like zippers & pockets, how well it holds together over time. For some reason these factors are all overlooked. Seems like there is a clear agenda here and honestly it's putting me off this Cade Media content which used to be good.

The twisted scheme of reviewers feeling they need the product companies, when in fact, the companies need the reviewers to make their products more widely known to larger audiences. It used to be the reviewers that dictated the terms and companies would do whatever they had to to get their products reviewed. Now, with internet advertising driving the online commercial industry, all the review sites care about is clicks and views. The product companies hold their ad contracts like a knife to the review site's throats now with threats of leaving. Video game review sites are notoriously bad at this.

i’m extremely mechanically competent, but when I moved into an apartment and started biking I was having to take my bikes into shops for repairs just because of the lack of space and tools I had. I couldn’t stand it, some shops (obviously not all) just get too cocky, some speak to you like you know nothing and some are just ridiculously overpriced for the work you’re requesting. PAS, Assos, Biehler, MAAP Giordana or whatever other brands people consider expensive, are all somewhat affordable if you shop the archive sale. The build quality on Assos garments tend to be better than the others, even if their styling is a bit suspect. I’ve been dealing with unraveling threads on Biehler garments. MAAP graphics has gotten comically bad in the last couple of years. As for one being better than the other for function…nah. Aside from Giordana and Assos bibs being the most comfortable, I haven’t seen much difference in terms of reality aligning with the marketing hype.

what these guys are missing about PNS kit - its just great design, great marketing, it seems it comes from people who actually ride bicycles. Sure its very expensive, but for sure there is a lot more to kit than fabrics. Good insight that it seems rapha owned that premium / enthusiast space, but maybe because change of hands rapha now seems to be just dull.

I got attacked by a dog whilst riding last year and it knocked me over and the impact shattered my hip. The dog owner claimed the dog didn’t touch me, but the whole thing was recorded on my Cycliq front and my Garmin rear cameras (even though I was unconscious, I had evidence).
I almost always ride alone and the camera is the only reliable evidence. I think that everyone should have one - because it encourages people on both sides to behave.

A 7/10 review in popular media usually means "we don't want to piss off the supplier, but it's total crap and don't buy it". Anything under 8/10 is usually bad to mediocre. 9/10 means it's pretty decent (standard score for good stuff) and 10/10 either means it's actually above industry standard, or heavily sponsored, like Fox forks where every review says it's the bee's knees, but the following model gets a review stating it fixed all things wrong with the previous 'perfect' model.

I haven't found, what I would define as the holy grail of cycling apparel, but it doesn't stop me from trying. Just to list off the top of my head, I've got pearl izumi, pns, rapha, specialized, universal colours, ekoi, maap, Oakley, castelli, DNA, sportful, LG, pactimo, le col, ale, dhb, assos, giordana, adidas, pedal mafia, gore cycling, Nike, black sheep, siroko, la passione, Suarez, pinarello, nopinz. I'm working on getting something from endura, and elliel soon, and continue to more brands as well. Maybe do a video on all my gear, and experiences with them. As you can see from what I've listed, I've spent a lot of money, but ultimately looking for that sweet spot, between price, appeal, comfort, and performance. The holy grail for me.

I know the former global editor-in-chief of a very well-known bike review website and he said that as most bike review websites rely on items given to the reviewers to review means that they are always going to find something good to say about the item so that they can continue to be given things to review or they will go out of business. They can't afford to buy all the items they review to review impartially. It is an undisclosed conflict of interest. He's moved on from that job.

I don't own any PNS kit. Too expensive for me. But i do appreciate their apparrel. Great colorways and quite minimal, streamlined branding. Their founder also started Wood Wood, a danish "fashion" brand. So i guess they want to market PNS as semi-luxury sportswear. Can't get over their PNS logo though. Or the weird "Mechanism" type on the butt.
With that said. Many times there are a difference in fit and cut between a £60 Jersey, and a £140 Jersey. Wether it's worth the extra cash is only up to the consumer.

I’ve worn Pas Normal and plenty other kits and pas normal just fit the best. Does the price point keep me coming back no, does the print “pns” on the jersey/bib have me buying more no but the fit is still the best. Even if these brands all go to the same factory for their materials pas normal just puts it together better. Other brands have saggy pockets loose fitting arms and wind getting caught in the shoulders. With pas normal I didn’t feel that and that’s me wearing the same size with all brands. Also talking about other brands and comparing it to yours never helps your brand. Only sounds like you’re mad that they get more sales.

Hey team… just watched this and I think you missed a point on the jersey? The wider review speaks to construction quality. And in my experience premium clothing also have attention to detail in design detail /cut/fit. (My experience is of La Passione kit.) So I think the challenge is to differentiate between the ‘Gucci’ marketing led products and those that have a true passion for design/fit that is tangible… tough because it’s all subjective to a point? Maybe that’s a feature? Gucci vs true design led?

I thought those who wear PNS are supposed to be pretty fast? - their marketing swagger seems to suggest this. I'll maybe remind them of that when I see fat choppers wearing it limping round at 14mph & going off the back of any clubrun when the road pitches up even slightly.

I’ve had a great experience with my PNS gear. Everything fits and wears well. I’ve found the prices to be roughly the same as most other cycling kits as well. I personally only buy gear when it’s on sale.

Nahhhh. pas normal studios makes, for me, the best fitting and best feeling cycling apparel. I've tried a lot of brands, and I've never felt this comfortable and confident in a kit before. This title and subject is click bait because so many people obviously love the brand

Jimmy has to stop using this podcast to recommend his own personal clothing brand. Your jerseys are also expensive and average quality too. The hypocrisy in this podcast is painful. You complain about cycling press giving bias reviews and then do the same yourself. Hypocrites.

Agreed. The people who buy PAS are not going to buy Attacus no matter how much he tries to promote it. PAS are in a different league aesthetically, if he wants to compete with them, come up with better branding

Totally wrong with Pas Normal Studios Jimmy. Your old company (I’ve purchased and used) and now I only wear Pas Normal Studios. It is levels above your old brands fit, fabric and quality.

PNS imo, are making the best looking kit. In a Danish context, the design is working perfectly since we (Scandinavians) are only dressed in monotone colours and minimalistic design. The products are nice, not better than similar products I guess - yes, you pay extra for branding, the same way you pay too much for other products with strong branding.

I agree some kit is way to expensive and reviews are pretty rubbish , but some of these companies do way better colours other than black . Some pastel colours , or greens and browns . Cameras on bikes would be great if people /police took it seriously . Bikes are still a nuisance to everyone and have no say . The war on cyclists is he only time people actually acknowledge cyclist . Try explaining the high way code to some arse in a car who thinks you shouldn’t be in his way .

For the next one, please.... People putting their name and a flag on the top tube of their bikes (amateur cyclists). I know what my bike looks like, so I don't need a name or flag to identify it after a café stop. Just my 10p... x

I think you forgot where you came from. Yes PNS is expensive, very expensive indeed but they are also the most transparent brand in the cycling apparel industry full stop. And for some people that matters. There ''muted'' designs are there to last because it's not a fashion item, it's made to be worn for years to come. No, you certainly don't have to buy such expensive stuff but yes, their materials are on a different planet compared to all other high end brands out there. And once again, they know where it's made, they tell you where it's made, who made it, what it's made from etc. If you think you are just as good, take all the information from their website and do your own thing.

I’ve reached the conclusion that anyone who wears PNS is so broke after buying their kit, that they have to then tattoo themselves instead of getting it done professionally ?

Reviews..it's the same with everything. Heck..the olympics is touted as the greatest and best thing ever and yet there are far better premium events. But if you talk it up you get more athletes attending andmore eyesballs and more money!!
Ultimately....someone that is rich is going to pay for a high end product that is average rather than an average product that is average...because half of life is about looks and brands and street cred. How many people get value from money from brand frames? Vs those without that create the same quality product without the hype and brand kudos. People wanna look more important than they are.

this is then marketing branding and fashion economics talks... if you are willing to pay +++ for the same white cotton jersey, just because the logo brand display in the front or back... well ... my personal aproach is, if your brand is all across my clothes, I probably not paying any $ or +++ than a regular not branded. pay me and pin me!

I rock PNS because it fits my personal aesthetic off the bike. I am a fashionable guy, and their branding and color palette suits my personal style. I am ok paying a premium for what I consider a premium brand.

Rapha is hysterical to me. It's owned by the Waltons via RZC Investments. Yup! Rapha IS a WalMart brand LOL. And people still pay ridiculous amounts for the stuff while looking down on people who buy kits made in the China.....where the Rapha kits are made thanks to Wal Mart. I laugh at people wearing Rapha and refer to them as Wal Mart Team Members.

Hopefully the Walmart buy out hasn't effected Rapha yet. I had a Marketing Manager interview at the Rapha head office in London a few years ago and it was an incredible place. Until then, I'd always thought that Rapha gear was slightly conservative,, a bit old and stuffy nd boring HOWEVER I was completed surprised to see a real young team - early to mid 20s who were passionate about cycling - young designer would walk around with their MacBook Pro's comparing design ideas for the clothing line for in two years time. The place had great energy and even had a barista on the ground floor who just like the Rapha boutiques serve IMO the best espresso in the UK!!! I'm a fan of PAS Mechanical bib shorts out of all of the brands. The worst brand for me is Castelli - their longevity of the materials they use has been a disgrace for me. It's a brand that I don't buy anymore. For me it's PAS, Rapha and Assos.
