Great to have you back! I was thinking about you during that heat-wave and hoped you were ok... Best to Paul on the athletic sporting injury... I see this recurring floor pattern of black and white tiles sometimes in the old buildings in San Francisco. btw I do apologize, some of my comments were lost due to a google restore (My bad totally) Loved it as usual... Dancers!!

It's so difficult to find info about the history of this area, I think most has been lost over the years. My boyfriend and I explore the area regularly, there's ruins of a canal like system through the the northern section of Bears wood that's pretty fascinating. I also found an intriguing carving of a "T.Gunter" dated 1944 on a large beech tree within the grounds of the golf course, I have a photo of the carving. It's a curious area along with Goldsland wood, where neolithic tools have been found. Thank you for covering this little area in South Wales, great video as always.

Thanks, Dominique! That canal-like system is intriguing.

Hi, Dominique. Just to add to Goff's comment. The canal-like system - and indeed, the grotto - seems to date to the ruinously expensive landscape gardening projects of Sir Edmund Thomas in the 18th century. We would have loved to have shown them, but I didn't have any decent photos, unfortunately. If you get any, do let us know. Thanks for watching. (Paul)

Oh very interesting, thank you Paul. I've always wondered how old ruins are. So it definitely wasn't built by Peter Burt then? With his connection to the river navigation schemes? We have some photos somewhere, might have to go back and get clearer ones though. How would you prefer I send the photos over? Email?

Not definite, and, as you say, Birt would make sense for 'canals' but he was there in the tail end of the 18th century, so they certainly aren't more modern than that. Not sure if the 'grotto' is his style. I would be amazed if that wasn't a remnant of the Thomas garden spend-a-thon. It's all speculation, though. If you do get any decent pics, if you could email them to: littleknowledgepodcast@gmail.com then we would be very grateful.

Thank you for that. I'll get looking, I'm sure there's some photos or video. Happy to send anything I can.

I am sure that I read somewhere that Wenvo Castle once had a chair that caused anyone who sat on it to bleed. The Wenvo vampiric chair

Now..... that's worth looking into! I shall set Paul on it at once! (Goff)
