Fujifilm created the issue for themselves. They released 9 cameras with the X-Trans 4 sensor. The X100 and XPRO line should be combined into a single camera with the hybrid viewfinder, interchangeable lens mount, and some small primes that match the camera (aperture ring on lens or body). Then they should have a camera with video focus and more modern design, and finally, a retro styled SLR. With fewer cameras, they might not make everybody happy, but they can focus their resources on quality and features.

Well, I want a retro range finder (X-E5/X-Pro4: IBIS, Big battery, X-E4 screen, Range finder with X-Pro3 EVF but better external light protection, 6.2K open gate). I don't need an ISO dial (I would prefer an AUTO ISO setting to have min shutter speed taken from shutter wheel).
Flat design so if I have a small lens, it is ultra light and if I want a bigger lens, I add a grip. The X-E4 is almost perfect...

I have heard about Fuji's quality control issues but luckily my x-e4 has been trouble-free so far. If the whole xe line is discounted I bet the resell market for current lineups will go even crazier.

I think you've answered your own question. It's not that the market doesn't want the XE line it's Fuji that doesn't like the XE prices. What they are doing is testing the waters to see if the market will support higher prices and if it does, then we may see an XE5.

I can't believe this. I bought the X-E1 (used), my first Fujifilm and took 100k+ exposures. Preferred this camera even if I had the X-T2.
After X-E1 died, I bought the X-E2 (used, again) and used it until I bought the X-T3.
The X-E1 was my entry into the system :)

Had my XH2 completely die on me a few months back. Only had about 3000 shutter actuations on it. Fortunately, I bought it new, so it was under warranty. Despite having it back and working properly, there is a part of me that has definitely tossed around the idea of selling everything and jumping to a different brand because of the reliability issues.

Sounds like they consolidating and tightening up how many cameras they produce. But I think they poorly implemented the latest xe camera instead of improving it from the one before it. It sounds like Fuji might be a bit overwhelmed with their popularity and quality is being affected.

My first Fujifilm was an x-e4. I haven’t had any issues with it. I recently purchased a refurbished x-pro3 and loving that as well. It is worrisome though knowing that the screen will eventually fail but I rarely use it. I was planning to sell my x-e4 since I got the x-pro3 but and can’t bring myself to do it even though resale value is great right now. I’m hesitant because I love the camera and also because of potential x-pro3 issues.
I have a Sony A7c and a Sony A7iv so I can only compare build quality to the Sony’s and not older Fujifilm cameras. My x-e4 feels solid. I did try an x-t5 at my local camera shop and it felt plasticky to me. It was smaller than I expected and light as well but it doesn’t feel solid. The x-pro3 feels like a tank.
I hope they continue the x-e line. I got into it because I couldn’t find an x100v

Spot on Tudor ! I keep saying the same - very compact cameras with big sensor & tiny lenses , f2,8 is good enough , built quality supporting no compromise ! Sony had an RX1 and made the same mistake of not updating it ....why ? They didn't sell it because the price was out of this world ! Most of us are going to drop the idea of having a camera because the smartphones are getting better at every iteration and camera manufacturers don't realize the market is slipping between their fingers ! Only Nikon seems to be willing to react with their new Zf....but it is still a big camera !
Another mistake they make is pushing more & more video functions into photographic cameras....I don't want to pay for that because I am not using it ! If I want video, I'll go for a real video cam, two different beast.

I have had an XE2 for many years and always loved the ergonomics, design and quality feel. It was the last XE camera made in Japan. I tried XE3 and XE4 and both were a step down in my opinion, EVFs in particular which is very important to me. I then bought an X Pro2 which is great too, heavier and larger but feels solid. I use both now with a selection of lenses, some I have had serviced and may also service the cameras at some point, and plan to keep them forever as I think they will be cult classics.

    • @prenomnom7325

Hello. Why are the x-E3 x-E4 a step down ? How could the EVF be worst ?

    • @MP_pov
      @MP_pov หลายเดือนก่อน

@@prenomnom7325 size of evf is noticeably smaller on the xe3 and xe4, vs the xe2, both screen size and size of eyecup. Find a discussion on DPreview forum which describes this in detail. This plus removing a lot of the buttons and reducing overall size with each iteration after xe2 made me want to hold on to the xe2 in addition to having an xpro2. Try for yourself though if you can as experience may vary.

  • @philamonhemstreet8632

I think part of the issue is the outdated notion that small=entry-level=cheap. Lots of really good photographers or really rich consumers are willing to spend big on small, performant cameras. You can see that in the used market for the X100V and XE4, where people are paying X-T5 prices for cameras that are three or more years old! If you put the latest sensors, latest EVF, and latest autofocus in an X-E4, you would sell a lot of them.

Completly agree. I was on X-T3, moved to X-E4. I would have paid big money for an XPro4 which is the X-E5 in design.
      - IBIS (I'm OK with a bit thicker body)
      - Big battery,
      - Rangefinder with X-Pro3 EVF but better external light protection as an option
      - 6.2K Open gate,
      - 26M sensor (Maybe an option for stacked)
      - X-E4 design: As light as possible when I have a small lens, I add a grip with I have a bigger lens.
      - I don't need an ISO Dial, I need the shutter dial to set the min shutter speed of my Auto ISO, I buy lenses with an aperture ring
      - I don't think I need a back dial, or it need to not be impacted by shoe-thumb grip (for when I shoot light)
      - Basically an X-T5 as a rangefinder.
I am not getting an X-T5, I would rather jump ship and go to Sony with a A7Cii or A7CR. I have fantastic auto-focus, I have auto-exposition to the right (histogram)... The function is here, the design is however not my cup of tea.

Regarding small interchangeable lens cameras and market demand, just look at the second hand market prices for t Panasonic GM5, they are hilarious. I really don’t understand why Fuji continues to offer small cameras while Sony (and Sigma) makes tiny 35mm equivalent cameras and lenses, which are selling to my observation like hot cake.

That is why I'm moving to Nikon ZF. I was waiting for the X-Pro4 but there is no sign of it. I fear the Xpro3 was the last one of the X-Pro line, at least for a while. And even if one day they decide to release it, I fear it will have a build quality downgrade like it happened to the XT5 compared to the previous xt bodies. The Nikon ZF answers my needs: beautiful retro design and dials, great and hefty build quality, great AF and low light capabilities, great dynamic range, full frame sensor, flip screen that I can keep closed back using only the EVF like I do on my Xpro3, face detection in manual focus. I will still keep my Xpro3 and then I will see if it will be the case to sell it or not, even though I'm emotionally attached to it.

while i love the X-E series as a concept it is just competing too hard with so many other Fuji products. I like them but don't have one and had very little intention of ever getting one. if i'm going to get a small Fuji then i'd shoot for an X100 variant. if a friend were to ask me for a very small Fuji camera with an interchangeable lens mount then i'd probably direct them toward either the X-Txx series for photography/hybrid or an X-S series for video. for the rangefinder vibe then i'd direct to either the X100 or X-Pro line (and i'm a proud owner of an X-Pro3). The X-E line just had too much internal competition and should maybe have been merged with the X-Txx line as a special rangefinder variant offered in limited quantities at launch.

It is possible that the sales volume on X-E4 wasn't nearly close to what they were hoping for to be profitable. Probably produced a smaller batch of X-E4s and sold them out.. but the market demand wasn't enough to continue. As at the moment the economies in the developed world are experiencing a cool-down, the supply chain argument shouldn't be the main one anymore to explain the shortages of supply.

Olympus has stopped making cameras. It’s dead in the water.

I am on the fence with Nikon Zf for this very reason. I had screen blackout problems with my X-T5, fortunately before the return window ended, so I sent it back. So far, good luck with my XH2s but it scares me because I have heard stories. The Zf and the lens adapter used with my pancake DSLR FF lenses sound attractive to me, as do the newer Z lenses. The Zf is not a wildlife camera but in a travel situation it could work. So, I'm loving my X-E2 and X-T30II and have no plans to sell. I may trade in my XH2s though for the Z8. And if I add the Zf then I have street and wildlife/travel covered. But I just love the Fuji look! I don't think micro 4/3 sounds too promising, do you? First world problems.

Micro four thirds no on the long term it seems... But regarding the Nikon ZF the problem remains regarding the lenses - for good image quality the lenses will add to the size and weight. I think Sony aps-c could be a good compromise regarding size, AF and image quality.

@@Tudor_Mateescu that's true. The weight is too much for me. Sony APS-C and Fuji are likely the best alternatives. Thank you!

Yes definitely the quality is very bad for Fujifilm and I am considering moving over to Sony for my professional needs and Fujifilm really needs to produce new xpro 4 and new f2 small lenses with better quality
