Vishwanathan-Ramamurthy together gave great songs but today, MSV fantastics don't even mention TKR's name 😂😂😂 How convenient.

Albums like Veedu, Onaayum Aattukuttiyum, Kutrame Thandanai, Guru (Malayalam 1997) etc. will say why IR is beyond all of his giant peers and predecessors. But, the average Indian contingent can NEVER look at music beyond "songs". Also true that MSV fans easily forget and omit TKR, Joseph Krishna etc. from the equation of MSV.

He gave TIMELESS classics for the movie,he gave phenomenal background score and finally did not take a penny from them as he understood the budget constraints of the new comers Vasu- Bharathi. He didn't even take half of his usual fee for Mani Ratnam's first movie Pallavi Anupallavi considering the budget crunch. Will these half-baked fake humility lovers talk about all these? But without leaning music nobody can write a musical note for orchestra you are the only music director in India who gives notations to the orchestra. In this programme you are 49 years old now you are 85 + at this age you have become the world's best composer but still you are learning new things in music and getting updated. Vasudevan Cv To add to your comment, a professor of Madras university once told us how she had handed on some occasion a book containing many folk songs to Raja and this guy copied many of those tunes in many folk based movies that brought him name and fame but he never acknowledged the person from whom he got them!! Of course, we know many of these modern directors just blatantly copy others' tunes!! I agree, Raja is a talented musician, but humility, I doubt he has it. MSV was very humble.. not this guy.
You are Absolutely Right Mr R B Easwaran Sir. In fact, there were times when I too had admired Raja's music in some of the films, though, NOT all of them. A striking difference between MSV and Raja is when MSV praised someone, it was done by him whole heartedly. Even when MSV passed away and Raja conducted a programme "Ennul MSV", he was trying to find so many reasons for MSV's success. He said during MSV's times, he had singers like TMS, PBS, Tiruchi Loganathan, Seerkazhi, etc. and further said that MSV observed composer cum lyricist Pabanaasam Sivan when he was working as an Office Boy. This is not the one we expect from a celebrated personality while paying a Tribute to a genius composer like MSV. You See, MSV gave due importance to persons like Govardhan & Joseph Krishna who worked with him. Similarly, K V Mahadevan gave due importance to his assitant Pugazhendhi. BUT, this was never the case with Raja. He had people like one Mr Sundararajan (who passed away long ago, Gangai Amaran, V S Narasimhan, T V Gopalakrishnan, Babu Raj and even Ezhaavadhu Manidhan Music director Vaidy Lakshman for some of his films. BUT, he never acknolwedged their role fully. Person who was really instrumental behind Raja's growth was Malayalam films composer Master V Dakshinamoorthy. Even this man's role was not acknowledged adequately. 4 Years ago, when press persons asked Raja who was his Guru, this man replied, for a person, a Guru may come in any form, thru wind, thru nature, etc. This clearly showed his arrogance. The height of his arrogance was when he contemptuously remarked, TMS did n't know how to sing with Bhaavam when there was a rift with him during Naan Vazha Vaipen film recording for the song Ennodu Paadungal, Nal Vazhthu Paadalgal. That's why SPB came in the picture for this song even though TMS sang another song Endhan Pon vanname Anbu Poo Vanname for the same film. We could easily notice, during the earlier phase of Raja's films, say, 1976 to 1980, the songs lacked continuity in background music and travelled abruptly from one phase to another. What I hated most is his terrible voice and horrible singing. IF he was really a Gnaani, he should have never opened his mouth to sing OR even to hum. There was one Raja called A M Raja who despite his excellent voice and good music knowledge was shown doors by the cine industry in the 1960's for his arrogant behaviour. But , this Raja was lucky to have his ride for too long a period. Thanks to AR RAHMAN, for annihilating this man's monopoly. Even after seeing AR RAHMAN bagging a National Award for his very first Film and then Oscars, Raja never changed his arrogant attitude.

Without taking any due credit from Ilayaraja for his significant achievements & changes he brought in, what I wish to record here is, Well before Raja, Pioneer MSV too had done it manifold and brought out significantly the First stage revolutionary changes in the Thamizh Film Music - making a path-breaking changes from the pattern followed by his predecessors. In fact, MSV has excelled better and delivered all types of songs and for any type of unique & challenging situations. MSV was the first one to have scored scintillating music for films shot in overseas and his musical score was outstanding in films like Sivandha MuNN, Ulagam Sutrum Vaaliban, Avandhan Manidhan, Ninaithale Inikkum and Ore Vaanam Ore Bhoomi. He could compose songs for comedy situations like Kadhalikka Naeramillai Kadhalippar Yaarumillai, Kaasikku Poagum Sanyaasi (Chandrodhayam), Varavu Ettana (Bhama Vijayam), Engal Kalyaanam Galatta Kalyaanam and Appapa Naan appan alladaa (Galatta Kalyaanam), Thallu Model vandi idhu thalli vidunga (Mazhalai Pattalam), Jambu lingame jadadhara (Kasedhaan Kadavulada). He could compose songs for talking toys like Oru Maharaja, Oru Maharaani (Iru Malargal), Junior... Junior... Junior (Avargal), and a song packed with mimicry - KadavuL Amaithu vaitha Medai (AvaL Oru Thodar Kadhai). He composed song for prose- cum-poem (Andha NaaL Niyaabagam). He composed a typical Hindi Song in a Thamizh film that sounded like a True Hindi Song with pure Hindi Nativity (Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu). He composed songs for Pudhu KavidhaigaL in Agni Saatchi and Oru Indhiya Kanavu. He could compose songs like AaNi muthu Vaangi vandhen Aavani Veedhiyile (Bama Vijayam). He could compose songs for films like Kalai Kovil, Aboorva Raagangal, Paattum Bharathamum, Mridanga Chakravarthy, Aval oru Thodarkadhai, Sila NerangaLil Sila ManidhargaL, horror movies like Nenjam Marapadhillai and Aayiram Jenmangal. He could compose songs for musical films like Paalum Pazhamum, Paasa Malar, Paava Mannippu, Paar MagaLe Paar (the Entire Paa Series films directed by Bhimsingh), Shanthi, Pudhiya Paravai, Kaadhalikka Neram Illai, VeNNira Aadai, Nenjirukkum Varai, Naadodi, Chandrodhayam, Uru MalargaL, Anbe Vaa, Ooty Varai Uravu, Kudiyirundha Kovil, Shanthi Nilayam, AvaLukkendru Oru Manam, Sumathi En Sundari, Ninaithaale Inikkum, etc. He could compose for films like Padagotti, Pazhani, Periya Idathu PeNN, KARNAN, Aayirathil Oruvan and what Not? After MSV, so many films have come that were shot in foreign locales. Still, no one has beaten the track record of MSV in spite of so many evolutions taking place in the musical field. SO, better praise any one only in a measured way, without exaggeration. Of course, Ilayaraja's musical sound dominated the words in some films and over dosage of music has been done for many songs. Also, it is not at all true that he is STILL dominating the music world. Certainly NOT. His music started fading gradually after 1988-89 (a few exceptions might be here and there). BUT, once he attained arrogance and created rift with many people in the industry, he as well his music lost charm. No knowledgeable man could tolerate Ilayaraja's terrible voice. He killed many of his own songs with his horrible voice. Many of his songs were seasonal only compared to the All time Great songs of 1960's. So, it would be fair only to check the practice of heaping undue praise on any One composer Alone without recognising his predecessors' achievements. Tks.

IR ALSO composed for COMEDY (Aboorva Sagodarargal, Karagattakaran, MMKR etc....) and HORROR genre movies (Uruvam, Aatma). He could also compose for a Salangai oli or Sindhu Bairavi or Kadhal Oviyam (musicals with strong Carnatic base)

But without leaning music nobody can write a musical note for orchestra you are the only music director in India who gives notations to the orchestra. In this programme you are 49 years old now you are 85 + at this age you have become the world's best composer but still you are learning new things in music and getting updated. His arrogant behaviour alienated many people from him in the cine world, like Vairamuthu, SPB, Bharathi Raja, Maniratnam, etc. NAAN ENDRA ENNAM KONDA MANIDHAN VAAZHNDHADHILLAI. IF he is really a Isai Gnaani, he would have never opened his mouth to sing any song with his Terrible Voice and Horrible Sruthi. Let's put full stop heaping undue praises on this undeserving person.
Vasudevan Cv To add to your comment, a professor of Madras university once told us how she had handed on some occasion a book containing many folk songs to Raja and this guy copied many of those tunes in many folk based movies that brought him name and fame but he never acknowledged the person from whom he got them!! Of course, we know many of these modern directors just blatantly copy others' tunes!! I agree, Raja is a talented musician, but humility, I doubt he has it. MSV was very humble.. not this guy.
You are Absolutely Right Mr R B Easwaran Sir. In fact, there were times when I too had admired Raja's music in some of the films, though, NOT all of them. A striking difference between MSV and Raja is when MSV praised someone, it was done by him whole heartedly. Even when MSV passed away and Raja conducted a programme "Ennul MSV", he was trying to find so many reasons for MSV's success. He said during MSV's times, he had singers like TMS, PBS, Tiruchi Loganathan, Seerkazhi, etc. and further said that MSV observed composer cum lyricist Pabanaasam Sivan when he was working as an Office Boy. This is not the one we expect from a celebrated personality while paying a Tribute to a genius composer like MSV. You See, MSV gave due importance to persons like Govardhan & Joseph Krishna who worked with him. Similarly, K V Mahadevan gave due importance to his assitant Pugazhendhi. BUT, this was never the case with Raja. He had people like one Mr Sundararajan (who passed away long ago, Gangai Amaran, V S Narasimhan, T V Gopalakrishnan, Babu Raj and even Ezhaavadhu Manidhan Music director Vaidy Lakshman for some of his films. BUT, he never acknolwedged their role fully. Person who was really instrumental behind Raja's growth was Malayalam films composer Master V Dakshinamoorthy. Even this man's role was not acknowledged adequately. 4 Years ago, when press persons asked Raja who was his Guru, this man replied, for a person, a Guru may come in any form, thru wind, thru nature, etc. This clearly showed his arrogance. The height of his arrogance was when he contemptuously remarked, TMS did n't know how to sing with Bhaavam when there was a rift with him during Naan Vazha Vaipen film recording for the song Ennodu Paadungal, Nal Vazhthu Paadalgal. That's why SPB came in the picture for this song even though TMS sang another song Endhan Pon vanname Anbu Poo Vanname for the same film. We could easily notice, during the earlier phase of Raja's films, say, 1976 to 1980, the songs lacked continuity in background music and travelled abruptly from one phase to another. What I hated most is his terrible voice and horrible singing. IF he was really a Gnaani, he should have never opened his mouth to sing OR even to hum. There was one Raja called A M Raja who despite his excellent voice and good music knowledge was shown doors by the cine industry in the 1960's for his arrogant behaviour. But , this Raja was lucky to have his ride for too long a period. Thanks to AR RAHMAN, for annihilating this man's monopoly. Even after seeing AR RAHMAN bagging a National Award for his very first Film and then Oscars, Raja never changed his arrogant attitude.

Without taking any due credit from Ilayaraja for his significant achievements & changes he brought in, what I wish to record here is, Well before Raja, Pioneer MSV too had done it manifold and brought out significantly the First stage revolutionary changes in the Thamizh Film Music - making a path-breaking changes from the pattern followed by his predecessors. In fact, MSV has excelled better and delivered all types of songs and for any type of unique & challenging situations. MSV was the first one to have scored scintillating music for films shot in overseas and his musical score was outstanding in films like Sivandha MuNN, Ulagam Sutrum Vaaliban, Avandhan Manidhan, Ninaithale Inikkum and Ore Vaanam Ore Bhoomi. He could compose songs for comedy situations like Kadhalikka Naeramillai Kadhalippar Yaarumillai, Kaasikku Poagum Sanyaasi (Chandrodhayam), Varavu Ettana (Bhama Vijayam), Engal Kalyaanam Galatta Kalyaanam and Appapa Naan appan alladaa (Galatta Kalyaanam), Thallu Model vandi idhu thalli vidunga (Mazhalai Pattalam), Jambu lingame jadadhara (Kasedhaan Kadavulada). After MSV, so many films have come that were shot in foreign locales. Still, no one has beaten the track record of MSV in spite of so many evolutions taking place in the musical field. SO, better praise any one only in a measured way, without exaggeration. Of course, Ilayaraja's musical sound dominated the words in some films and over dosage of music has been done for many songs. Also, it is not at all true that he is STILL dominating the music world.
Certainly NOT. His music started fading gradually after 1988-89 (a few exceptions might be here and there). BUT, once he attained arrogance and created rift with many people in the industry, he as well his music lost charm. No knowledgeable man could tolerate Ilayaraja's terrible voice. He killed many of his own songs with his horrible voice. Many of his songs were seasonal only compared to the All time Great songs of 1960's. So, it would be fair only to check the practice of heaping undue praise on any One composer Alone without recognising his predecessors' achievements. Tks.

Regarding your comment, "MSV is the 1st to score for films shot overseas" is ignorance. BECAUSE, they started shooting overseas to increase the face value of movies, it is a trend. IR ALSO composed for COMEDY (Aboorva Sagodarargal, Karagattakaran, MMKR etc....) and HORROR genre movies (Uruvam, Aatma). He could also compose for a Salangai oli or Sindhu Bairavi or Kadhal Oviyam (musicals with strong Carnatic base)

He composed music for India's 1st 3D movie 'My dear Kuttichathan". First to compose for Hollywood movie (Bloodstone in which Rajinikanth played a role). FIRST ASIAN to compose SYMPHONY. Later, he did it in THIRUVASAGAM. He composed GANDHI's Bhajan "Namrata ke sagar" for which Pt. Bhimsen Joshi and Pt. Ajay Chakrabarty sang. Not to mention MANY devotional albums. Collaborated with the late MANDOLIN U. SRINIVAS for an album featuring Carnatic Kritis. WHAT MORE do you expect?
