Thanks for pointing out the influence on Deadpool. It’s 100% accurate, but I’m sure most people dont know it. I love Ambush Bug and this will be my first McFarlane DC purchase.
This is a happy coincidence! My Ambush Bug arrived this morning! I've loved Ambush Bug since the early 1980s and never thought I'd see the day when he'd get his own action figure. The fact he comes with Cheeks is perfect! You did come dangerously close to describing his comics as filler but I'll forgive you just this one lol.
This character is REALLY hard to read/like. I knew of him because it was one of the lead figurines of the Eaglemoss DC Comics Superhero Collection. Don´t know if DC has made use of him later on but the last time they tried was on The New 52 comics in the final pages of some titles as fun/funny recaps of what was happening. Spot, I´m pretty sure his toy is not based on The Flash but on "El Chapulín Colorado" (The Red Grasshopper). A Mexican comedian take on superheroes in the 60s/70s. You might be more familiar with him as it was shown briefly in the Blue Beetle movie. Also, this happened to be the inspiration of Bumblebee Man in The Simpsons.
Ambush Bug is easily in my top 10 favourite comic characters of all time but I can understand why he some people wouldn't like him. He's definitely an acquired taste. TBH I think his 80s comics would be more popular if they were released today because they were so far ahead of their time. Breaking the 4th wall and making jokes about the multiverse and continuity was unheard of back then and readers didn't know what to make of it.
