Emmet has always been a technical prodigy and has as broad a stylistic vocabulary as anyone. Here he is playing more beautifully and profoundly than ever, using space and minimalism and Evans-like minor second discords. One of the very best pianists and musicians alive.
This is so beautiful it still takes my breath away (even when I listen to it about 5x a day). Such a ender touch on "Where Is Love" with an inspirational cadenza...🎹
The whole Stockholm concert was beyond amazing, but glad you made this song a TH-cam single.. we mere mortal pianists are still trying to figure out that magical cadenza beginning with the “Be My Love” quote .. brought many of us to tears as your arpeggios and reharms are just incredible ..no words, Emmet.. it’s just so moving and beautiful 🎹❤️
This was a beautiful combination of a familiar tune and an exciting, amazing expedition exploring around that tune. I loved the trio’s work and then your ending, very moving solo. I can’t think of another trio, down thru the ages, who even competes with your work. I recently heard and saw you in Indiana, Pennsylvania playing with Joe (who is perhaps the best drummer I’ve ever heard) and I’ve been listening to your wonderful apartment concerts, among others, since. I’m a not bad pianist who has played for 65 years primarily “by ear”… and so inspired by wild ass jazz talent and you name it. It gets me going! I thank you so very much. Hugs!
This music is so deep and so touching - wow! There are very few jazz musicians who reach me with the beauty of their playing to such an extent that tears run down my eyes almost every time I hear them. Grateful that I can experience this and be part of it...
Emmet Cohen is my favorite pianist right now. Sure, he may not have his own distinctive sound yet, but every recording I here, he's getting more and more interesting with his playing. One day soon, he will have developed a sound u like any other, and I can't wait to hear that. Additionally, aside from being a fabulous player, Emmet is also a great person, which in this day and age, is hard to find in the jazz world. So many people are just so cocky and full of themselves just cuz they can play jazz and others can't. That's not respectable and never will be. If u can do something well and be nice about it, that's what music is all about.
