Perfect video!! If the objective of the gas can laws was to cause more spillage of fuel into ground they did a great job cause that is all these cans are good for. Unfortunately where I live there is no non-ethanol fuel option. Have to tear apart my carbs every year.
I've had a running issue with my riding mower as the filler tube for it comes out of the side of the tractor. That means you have to hold the five gallon can of gas up the entire time you refuel and it has to go slowly. It's hard for me in my 70's to support a full can of gas for five to ten minutes to fill the tank. I finally decided to set the gas can on top of the tractor and use a jiggle hose to siphon gas into the tank.
I bought one of these when they first came out. Awesome can like you say. I did have a problem with mine after a couple of months. The swivel area would leak. Their warranty is awesome. They sent me a new assembly and I haven't had a problem since. YOu should have mentioned the warranty it is 3 years!!!
The Sure Can is a design made from scratch. Everything was re-thought. The other cans where made from old manufacturers who don't make the sprout and went with the cheapest design they could buy from suppliers, to fit their cans and comply with the FDA.
My 5 gallon surecan lasted about a half year before the rotating spout started to leak. Wasn’t bad at first because the release valve would hold if you drained the tube. A few months later the release valve must also leak because now it’s started dripping all the time. Will do an autopsy to see if an o ring or internal seal can be replaced.
No kiddin, for that kinda price, it betta! I kina think itll be like most everything these days, there is no attempt by manufacturers to make a quailty product. Is all about profit.
I've tried a couple different replacement spouts off Amazon and ebay and both were worthless. They leaked worse than the spouts that came on the cans. That new bottom drain can you showed here looks promising but the price!. Since those replacement spouts I ordered went into the trash, I've been using the 5 gal. cans that come with that push button spout like you showed and you said was okay (but not great). I removed that plastic fuel filter that makes it difficult to fill the can and I drilled an air hole w/plug on the handle. This at least makes the cans usable. The trouble is the short length of the spout. Once the cans are 3/4 empty I have to roll them around to get the rest of the gas out. It's a royal pain.
I like the design of this gas can, but It seems to me that it could be fairly awkward to handle when trying to hold approximately 31 lbs (5 gallons) up high enough to get the spout in the filler on a lawn tractor. With the spout pointing down from the bottom it affectively doubles the overall height of the gas can.
Yep, that tractor supply can sure looks nice - except for the ~$60 price tag. Looks like i’m gonna have to keep adding a tire air stem to the back of my cans to vent them. ~$25 + $3 for the tire valve stem.
I don't like fuel coming from bottom of can. Unless it's the can is empty and dry and totally fresh fuel. Cool nights and hot days makes condensation around Boston area. If I have to tilt my can more than 45 degrees I pour it in a glass bottle first and inspect it for water. No more fouling my machines with water in the fuel system. But good can for fresh gas and using all of it within few days. Great videos !
I have that first can you talked about. My girlfriend bought it, not me. The first time I tried to use it, simply pissed me off. However, here is what I have found, by necessity. Step 1, take the handle of the can with your support hand. Step 2, flip the safety lever by butting the palm of your other hand against the green button, and wrap your fingers over the top of the black flange on the top of the nozzle. Step 3, lift the can and put the nozzle in the tank. Step 4, squeeze the green button and black flange together to open the valve and start the flow of gas. It actually works decent once you figure out the screwed up ergonomics.
I think with gas cans they keep in mind that it's so icky - therefore they take a lot more effort to make sure it gets on your hands and all over the place
Have you tried a Metal Eagle gas can. They seal well, but add an odd funnel for dispensing which works well until you try to empty the can. The only other down side is that they only hold 4.9 gal. They did increase prices in the past year from $40 to $60 per can.
I have one more stupid. You have to twist the spout to a certain position and pull it down towards the can. When I do that gas just blows out the spout because heat has caused pressure to build inside. I have been meaning to look for a better version. That new gas tank reminds me of the trigger safety on my Glock.
The yellow on the old metal can may have been the writing the said GASOLINE. When I fill the big ones no I only buy 4 gallons or so. Its a little easier to handle, and when I get home, I pour it onto a one or two gallon can to dispense it into smaller tanks.
The surecan isn’t too bad, but the seal that comes with the can doesn’t hold up! Mine started leaking after a couple refills! I was lucky and had the perfect seal too replace the leaking seal! It’s been more then a year and no leaks! They aren’t cheap!
I have several scepter gas cans , like you but I'm in SC. And I have several toys. Anyway I simply depressed the safety levers and drilled a screw and viola, they pour just like the old gas cans. Also replace the white o rings ,,they are junk. Use the black o ring like scepter used in the beginning.
The stupid gas can spouts have a spring in them. If you can figure out how to remove it then it will stay open. Remove the spring and the spout will not close when you are using it.
Maybe review Dirt bike style cans 6 or 3 gallons size our local Napa has them or any Honda Yamaha dealers. Hi flo, one inch tube, screw cap breathers, smaller foot print. Take care Enjoyed ya road trip !
I just use my gallon water jugs...o rotate them so I dontvgetbleak issues...the jugs are pretty good, never had a leak issue and I spend about $1.20 on them...yea! ...been useing plastic milk jugs scents I was ackid mowing lawns...lol...im 60 yrs now...
It’s the same as “low flow” toilets. They make them low flow to save water, but you have to flush them two or three times to get the crap to go away. So, actually we are using MORE water .??
I am an old school guy when it comes to gas cans as well. Too many liability driven designs out there that are impossible to use. Now this one looks promising! Thanks for the heads up.
I think the modern saftey designs are for women, and that they are a good thing overall. These "bad" spouts allow you shift half the weight of the can onto the spout and provide a break from lifting what's probably a full can for the duration of the fuel transfer. At the same time though, I think that it's not right that the height of self-checkout scanners and even other card readers are so low, making tall guys, like me, break their backs to get their receipts and use their debit cards at check-out. It is often ridiculous. I also think that high stools should be used in the workplace. It's ridiculous that we expect people to stand so much, often for no reason other than that it makes executives feel good.
I just got a 6 pack of replacement nozzles, including vent caps, that fit about any jug. No safeties or buttons or levers from temu for six bucks. Pop the caps and pour!😅 Enjoy your $50 gas can that will eventually leak at the pivot point.
Let us all thank the think tank at the EPA!!! Those Moran's will destroy the Earth in an attempt to save the Earth, but common sense isn't a big ticket item with them.
Where do you get ethanol free gas these days. There isn't a station around here that doesn't have ethanol in their gas. And I live in what most people would consider the boonies.
This is all shenanigans, find the Senator and congressmen that financially benefited from investments they had in plastics . Find a plastics supplier that made a substantial donation to a party or person. That's how the game is played. These modern gas cans do not cut back on vapors or spillage in real practical usage.
Lol god I hate those. I poured the gas into an old can then poured the gas into my Jeep with the old one. You can barely get your finger on the button while holding it in the tank hole..
i like the design of that can too but can not justify paying over $50 bucks for one. the spout you have that you got online is what i put on all my gas cans. i got enough of them to fix all 5 of my cans for $20. much less than the cost of just one new one from TS.
I always wondered who came up with them gas cans Especially the first one never did get it to work.some politician had stock in the company that made it
My understanding is the only requirement by any government agency or law is to make the cans seal when not in use. This is to prevent the escape of hydrocarbons into an enclosed space (fire hazard) or into the atmosphere. Makes sense as you would not want a fire or to literally have your money evaporate. The spring loaded nozzles and mesh inserts are to prevent can explosions should the vapors ignite while pouring the gas. Its intent is to instantly block the vapor path into the can. If you want to put the blame on someone, put it on the morons who didn’t heed the warnings and tried to start/restart fires by pouring it on or near a heat source, injuring or killing themselves/others in the process. Blame it also on the lawyers who were climbing all over themselves to litigate the many cases. Blitz was litigated out of business while having one of the easiest to use spouts that met the EPA regulations. The Enviro-Flow spout could be opened with a push of the thumb on the lever and it had a flexible nozzle. I still have a 1 gallon one for my trimmer. Never had a spill. My Midwest Can had just spilled for the 15th time in 2.5 years as it didn’t seal when the nozzle sprung back out. It dulled the glossy red engine cover on my brand new Honda mower. Blitz and other companies even lobbied the CPSC for regulation regarding flame arrestors and they tabled it due to not enough evidence to support the use to prevent gas can explosions. So, thank all the Darwin Award candidates and winners as well as their lawyers for the glut of PITA to use gas cans.
Nice informative video, Thanks! Its a nice can but cost prohibitive sadly. I will just keep converting the terrible, but heavy walled plastic cans with a new long flex spout and cap, like yours, you have done, and add snap open plastic vents as needed. I really think this is just one more thing they know they can do, just to try to force in their dirty lithium battery cars. Its ridiculous how well internal combustion engines work and how clean they are today, but they are making the emissions goals unattainable, all to force the dirty china battery vehicles in. We don't even have the powerplants or the infrastructure to power them, but they are determined. Its sick really.
Do you have a video on the best gas cans? My brother-in-law had a gas can the other day it was one of the best gas cans I think I've seen you fill it on top like a regular gas can but it has a drain on the bottom you pulled the lever on the top there goes right in its easy
Ran outta gas today. Spent 40 minutes on side of road trying to figure out how to use what I giving. Uber guy was baffled too. Tired of this stupid bullshit America
LOL when the video began all I could think was that can on the far right should have been thrown away immediately. In their defense even the manufacturer thinks its BS. They complain that the government is going to put them out of business with the rules.
I just bought a Sure Can from Northern Tools..$50 but I always get coupons in the mail so I saved $10 off my $50 purchase..haven't used it yet but it looks like a Winner
No thanks! Another hole in a gas can, and at the bottom! I wont be buying one. Been using a variety of fuel containers for more than 65 years. They all used to work well. The newest ones are all crap. And the thread sizes for the spouts tend to be not compatible from one brand to another. But I've got a couple of Gott cans that I bought new spouts caps etc. for online. Still working on a solution for several others. Ive made replacement caps for a couple of them by carving a plastic disc out of a bucket lid.
The government wrote guide lines to help the environment, but left the manufacturers make their own spout design with minimum R&D. Place the blame where it belongs.
Look Exoman.....! We love you guys but I think its time to take it up a notch. Start doing practical jokes, such as a fire extinguisher up the a... or chalk powder in the blow dryer or a crazy looking doll in front of the back up camera. The sky's the limit!
I‘m totally thrilled to see the Yankee-Ingenuity poured into making a simple bottle (that‘s what it is in any shape) into a high-tech unusable technical device with dozens of parts to break and have the contents spill all over the place! I've spilled more gas , diesel fuel and kerosene since these cans were introduced than in the 45 years prior !

When I bring home gas, I add Sta-Bil and SeaFoam right away.
Nice concept but i can see that lower hose seal going and these being recalled

Not that expensive!

Just rite is based in Illinois and makes traditional metal cans. Not cheap but built so well you will be giving it to the next family generation.
I will want to know how long that rotating delivery spout will last befor leaks are discoverd.
No kiddin, for that kinda price, it betta! I kina think itll be like most everything these days, there is no attempt by manufacturers to make a quailty product. Is all about profit.
The new 'Sure Can' gas can is great...have several of them!

Did anyone wonder how many in the Gov't had invested in the company with the patent on these caps right before these were mandated by law ? 😳
Yep, that tractor supply can sure looks nice - except for the ~$60 price tag. Looks like i’m gonna have to keep adding a tire air stem to the back of my cans to vent them. ~$25 + $3 for the tire valve stem.

I have been using a can like the one you show for over a year. The biggest selling point for me was holding the can upright. Works great

Alright! A useful and entertaining video. Thanks for posting.
So glad someone else thinks like this. A perfect example of the government screening up everything it touches.
When I saw this I thought it would be better than the rest. The downside is the price. Thanks for sharing...
They're trying to reinvent the wheel. That can with the spout on the bottom is gonna leak. Give it time.
Great timing of this video with ida in nola.
Can't see the progress... How about antisiphon auto tank openings?
I have several scepter gas cans , like you but I'm in SC. And I have several toys. Anyway I simply depressed the safety levers and drilled a screw and viola, they pour just like the old gas cans. Yessir who ever came up with that gas can spout needs to have there head examine
Apparently, the price has increased. TSC now lists it for $76.50. OUCH!
Yep I have the bright red one you have to depress the button and it is a pain!!
The stupid gas can spouts have a spring in them. If you can figure out how to remove it then it will stay open. Remove the spring and the spout will not close when you are using it.
Or you can buy a old fashion gas can spout for about $5-$8, install the spout, install a vent and have ANY modern can to work as the old cans.
Where do you find the old style spouts. Send a link.
Maybe review Dirt bike style cans 6 or 3 gallons size our local Napa has them or any Honda Yamaha dealers. Hi flo, one inch tube, screw cap breathers, smaller foot print.
Take care Enjoyed ya road trip !
You are correct, the new nozzles are horrible. I took them all off and threw in trash can.

I liked watching your video and the sign about the no shirt too.
The only problem with metal fuel cans is people steal them or barrow them and don't bring them back! Just make you give them plastic one!
II hope nothing ever happens to my old poly can…that has none of that bull crap you have to deal with
What was so bad about the old gas can's ? Oh they worked we can't have that can we ?
Great sign exo!
I think the modern saftey designs are for women, and

Very expensive. Try using a shaker siphon. I do for everything.
Let us all thank the think tank at the EPA!!! Those Moran's will destroy the Earth in an attempt to save the Earth, but common sense isn't a big ticket item with them.
I don’t even waste my time on that insanely stupid stuff !
Throw those spouts away and get a good funnel !
Where do you get ethanol free gas these days. There isn't a station around here that doesn't have ethanol in their gas. And I live in what most people would consider the boonies.
Not available in some states :(
50 dollars for a gas can is stupide

It was actually Trump that signed the gas can safely bill into law back in 2019.
Lol god I hate those. I poured the gas into an old can then poured the gas into my Jeep with the old one. You can barely get your finger on the button while holding it in the tank hole..

Thank u Ex. Gas cans have gone beyond useful in the name of safety.
Stupid idea gas can yeah that gasket starts leaking on nozzel leaks
Nice can, but how much did it cost?
A lot
Gas can company’s hire stupid engineers that never use gas cans
Lol I have almost everyone of those cans. Hate them all. I also saw the new can an was wondering about it. Thank you

Hole design 😂
