  • The iconic Rockwall trail located 20 minutes from Lake Louise on highway 93 and follows the Vermilion mountain range. Staying at 4 campgrounds, Helmet Falls, Tumbling Creek, Numa & Floe Lake. 3 mountain passes, glaciers, alpine lakes, creeks and magnificent towering mountains in every direction. Hiking from North to South starting at Paint Pots Trail Head and finishing at Floe Lake Trail Head with a 13 km distance separating the two trail heads the only viable means of getting back to your car is to hitch hike which is not hard in the Rockies. The Rockwall is an intermediate level hike

    I greatly enjoyed your video! I did the same hike from July 14 to 17 in 2019, and what you captured is the best representation of the trail that I've seen :)

      Hi Eleazer yes there is, from paint pots trailhead hike 3km then a trail to your left will lead to Tumbling Creek Campground. I would suggest to go up to Wolverine Pass the views are spectacular!!!

      The Healing Hiker sorry missed this comment, it was wet but I still loved it, the dramatic cloud mixed with mountains and glaciers were dramatic and amazing. I will just have to do it again :)

    Can you please explain how/what you packed for this hike? I want to try it but I've never done a multi day hike before. I'd love to get some background before I try it. Thanks!

      Hi Gamersnamers I will reply in full shortly as it will have a large response thanks

    • @jothman
      @jothman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gamernamers I pack a big pack when I go either day hiking or multi day hiking, sleep gear I carry a sleeping mat, inflatable pillow, sleeping bag (-7), bed gear (thermals). Cook gear I use a msr pocket rocket stove, large gas bottle, bowl, spork, lighter, pre packaged meal kits. Clothing I wear my hike gear, I bring rain pants and jacket, and a spare jacket, jumper and socks + sleep gear. Equipment I bring is lots of rope, sawyer mini water filter (best gear and costs 40 bucks), compass, map, whistle, garmin mini satellite phone, d5300 Nikon DSLR camera, DJI Pocket gimbal camera, iPhone 11 pro max (Gaia app for tracking is amazing), bear spray, bug spray, sunscreen, hot water bottles (keeps u warm and can dry clothing). For food we used ziplock bags and labeled each day and put in our daily food. This should give a little insight, I have been meaning to do a how to video for Rockwall and my other multi day hikes, hope this helps and ask away if u need for info. Cheers

    Loved the footage. At times the clouds look so cool… but I must say I hope we get less rain when we go!! Just wondering if the tent spots are wooden platforms are not. Our tent is a trekking pole tent snd we haven’t used it on platforms before.

    • @jothman
      @jothman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi H M thanks again for your wonderful comments, from what I remember I don’t think there were any wooden platforms. When are you going, we went in June and it was pouring rain from the start, there were sunny periods but we had to dry our clothes by wrapping them with our hot water bottles. We want to do it again in July or August in the future as this year we are doing berg lake.

    • @HM-gk3rq
      @HM-gk3rq 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jothman we loved berg lake!! We are heading to the Rockwall trail at end of Aug. Good to know there aren’t platforms!! Good tip on drying clothes too. That can be so tough when it just keeps raining and raining.

      @@jothman one more question. In your description you says it’s an intermediate hike. I have read it’s one of the harder multi day hikes in BC. Is intermediate your rating? Or what rating system do you use?

    • @jothman
      @jothman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi H&M it’s just my own rating, I pretty much rate most things as intermediate unless it is super easy or really difficult. If you do the route we did it then it is not too bad. When doing a multi day we always find the route with less elevation gain.

    • @HM-gk3rq
      @HM-gk3rq 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jothman yes we have same itinerary

    Fantastic! How were the temps at night? We are headed there end of August.

    • @jothman
      @jothman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Larson apparently it was cooler than normal and we had a lot of rain but we always pack hot water bottles with us so we were cosy. Floe was the coldest.

      @@jothman oh that’s so smart. What kind of hot water bottle do you pack?

      @jothman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did not really encounter any bugs or mosquitoes, it rained throughout so no issues.
